The Grand Final of the

Q3 EMS4 was finally played tonight and saw the victory of Alexey "cypher" Yanushevsky on Sebastian "spart1e" Siira in the 3rd map of the 2nd set of the Grand Final! Here are the final rankings of the competition:

Tonight saw the last group match of the Quake 3 ESL Major Series between

noctis and

k1llsen in the group D. The group stage is now finally over and the next step in the cup before the playoffs is the relegation round. While the 1st's of each group are directly qualified for the playoffs, the 2nd's and 3rd's still need to play an extra match to make their way to the double-elimination brackets.

Viaceslavas 'fire_bot' Duk played a perfect qualification tournament for the Major Series where he beat players like

Peter 'cYmoZz' Sellmaier. He also managed to beat

Milos 'Zubb' Zubal in his first group match, but still fire_bot left the competition very surprisingly. fragster spoke with him about the reasons and his future in the Quake-scene.

The EMS might be the last big Quake 3 tournament. Isn't it frustrating to leave such a high quality competition in that way?

fire_bot: How many times people will tell - every time when any game is published - that Quake 3 is going to die? Many, many times! It's the same here: There will be less or more tournaments... So don't panic. But I'm not frustrated because of leaving the competition but because of not playing Cooller. It was my dream to play against him since 2002. Can you imagine how I feel after my decision now? That's right, I feel pretty bad.

The 8 players invited to the Quake 3 1v1 EMS4 are now known, as well as the groups and the schedule of the tournament. I would like to thank all of you who joined the qualifier cups and sent us your applications. We sure know there are still some good names on our waiting list in case of early drops!

The tournament will start next week, and all matches will be pre-forced to Sundays at 13:00 CDT. All matches will be played as bo3 using the ESWC style map pick.

The 4 qualifiers cups for the Quake 3 EMS4 are now over with the fourth and last one played last Sunday. With

Hawk, now 16 players out of the 24 who will participate in this 4th season are known.

The last 8 players will be picked on applications and will be announced later. If you want to apply and get one of the 8 invitations, the deadline has just been extended to Thursday 23rd of April at midnight. The number of emails we received until now is tragically low, so don't hesitate!

The last qualifier for the Quake 3 EMS 4 will start tomorrow afternoon at 09:00 CDT and will grant 4 slots to compete in the new EMS season. The sign-ups will be open until 08:30 CDT and then the check-in process will begin. We may try to get a GTV running during the 2nd group stage, join #esl.q3 on IRC for more informations tomorrow.

The third qualifier for the Q3 1v1 EMS4 took place this last sunday and saw 28 players signed up. Once again a 1st group stage, a 2nd group stage and then the first round of the playoff were needed to get the top4 duelers who are now qualified. Here they are:

The second qualifier for the Quake 3 EMS is over and another 3 players are qualified to fight for the €750 price pool.
This week, 29 players started into Group stage one. After the second Groupstage only 8 players advanced to the Playoff and these 3 came out on top:

The first qualifier for the Quake 3 EMS 4 just took place Sunday and saw 24 players signed up. After the first group stage, the second group stage and finally the first round of the playoff, the 4 first qualified players came out:

The Qualifier #2 is scheduled for next Sunday and the sign-ups should open on Monday by 18h00 CET.

Update: Sign ups for the Qualifier #1 are already full, but if you leave a comment in the ESL news you can be added to the waiting list.

The

ESL just released some informations about the qualification process for the

Quake 3 ESL Major Series 4. The top4 of 4 Qualifiers cups will gain access to the Q3 EMS4 roster, and the final 8 players will be selected from applications to be invited. After that, the 24 players will compete for the 750€ cashprize.

The Qualifier #1 will start this Sunday 22nd of March at 16h00 CET and will feature 2 group stages (8 groups of 4 players with bo1 matches, then 4 groups of 4 players on bo3) and a double elimination brackets on bo3.

Qualifiers schedule:

- Qualifier #1: Sunday 22nd March
- Qualifier #2: Sunday 29th March
- Qualifier #3: Sunday 5th April
- Qualifier #4: Sunday 12th April

EMS Season 4 - Starcraft Broodwar is in! (12 comments)

Now it's official: The upcoming ESL Major Series Season IV will support Starcraft Broodwar again. After the great success of the first season, we've decided to give this great game another chance.
This Season will have 750€ prize money:

1st Place - 450 Euro
2nd Place - 200 Euro
3rd Place - 100 Euro

Of course, we will have like in the last Season a weekly coverage via ESL-TV. So you are able to watch this hot games live (always Mondays at 15:00 CDT)! After the matches, you can download the replays of the other games or watch the VoD again. The shows will be mainly in German.

The ESL just announced the fourth edition of their ESL Major Series, the ESL version of the Clanbase Eurocups. The newest edition will feature 14 games (ten team games and four duel games) and a total prize money of 17.250€. For the first time the EMS will feature a Quake tournament: Quake3 1on1. The Quake 3 tournament will have a total prize money of 750€. More details about qualification, rules and system will be announced soon.
