You should really watch the whole game instead (If you have any interest for these kinds of games, that is). But in this particular instance, Ken (Daigo) parries all attacks (Which is blocking at the right moment on every attack, if I'm not mistaken) taking 0 damage and wins the match.

apoxic is wrong. Daigo didn't block (+back), he parried!

parrying = pressing +forward on the exact frame of each attack from the opponent.

the risk of timing it wrong is pretty high, especially when parrying the super with the most hits in the game (like Chun Li's).

doing this under pressure in a high level match with no health left at all = godlike comeback

Ah, I had no idea how to actually do a Parry, thanks for clarifying :). I only heard it was "blocking at the correct moment" so I assumed it was the normal block.

I think it is in one of the KOF games or something, but that system is a bit shitty because if you mistime it then you just block.

Yea its a bit too forgiving to get a block if you miss a parry, SF makes more sense.

It would make a bit more sense if the game wasn't plagued with option select parries.

Also, parries give much more advantage than just defend.

Just Defend, afaik it's in Garou and one of the CvS2 grooves.

Whats going on in short: The chun-li (female character) player activates a super art. These are attacks that can only be used after obtaining enough of meter (the meters on the lower part of the screen indicate how much if any supermeter the characters have). The ken player (male character) is very low on health. If he uses normal blocking to block to super he will die of "chip damage". This is damage done even if the move is blocked.

But in street fighter 3: 3rd strike theres something called a parry. The player has to press towards the enemy at the right time to cause a parry (the blue flash when ken "gets hit" by an attack). When you parry an attack you will not receive any chip damage.

The ken player executes a perfect string of parries to thwart the chun-li players efforts to chip him to death with the super art and after parrying the super art (which is very hard to do, the time frame for a parry is very strict) uses a string of moves to destroy the chun-li player effectively making a massive comeback of epic proportions.

I don't quite get the animations in those two videos, they are confusing. Parries I assume?

1st: Necro (the white one) did his move that is basically blanka's electricity move, if you touch him you get hit. Urien (red one) blocks the first hit but is low on health so he'd get chip damaged to death if he blocked any more, so he does a "red parry" which means he parries while in block stun (apparently much more difficult, honestly not sure of the mechanics) which allows him to survive. Then Necro does his electric snake super which hits low and extremely fast and Urien manages to parry that too (although the parry system automatically parries any hit within 1 or 2 frames after you've parried, but still, he would've had to do it pretty tightly) although he still loses but it was fucking amazing :).

2nd: Chun-Li (girl) activates her super and Hugo (fucking huge one) parries the first set of kicks and in the very small timeframe between Chun switching legs to do the second set of kicks he does his super which is a 720° motion with the stick. Absolutely ridiculous timing to not fuck it all up and get destroyed was needed.

Basically it was well good.

Ground to Ground Parry: 10 Frames
Ground to Air Parry: 5 Frames
Air to Air Parry: 7 Frames
Anit Air Parry (while jumping): 7 Frames
Red parry windows for all moves: 3 frames for normal moves, 2 for specials/supers.
