I wonder on what the tdm seeds are based. If previous performances are the criteria, there's no reason to place coman lower than UFX or the russians. Rather random.
But on the other hand, there are so many good teams, so it's bound to happen that you get a group like group C.

I don't like Group C coz I feel pity for Americans. I mean they fly across the world just to get raped in 4 maps by srs and tox and then go home? Cmon, give them a bit more chances to prove themselves by swamping them into other group with 3 teams :)

Guys, let me explain something to you, I mean duel groups are perfect. You know why? Becouse we will have the best quarters and semis ever. In all of duel groups there are two players who will come out on 90%.

If we will have death group like (example):

Rapha
Cypher
Strenx
Av3k

And other group like (example):

Zsx
Garpy
Evil
Madix

There will be two players who did not come out. So we will loose two great players and semis will be like: Rapha vs Zsx (for example), and match like that will be so booooring, becouse it's 3:0 for rapha or other player who came out from that death group.

But now if he have groups like that it's good becouse the worse players will just fall of in groups, and there will stay only good players for finals. And in quarters or semis we will watch greatest matches like Rapha vs Cypher or other players who are two first in their group.

It's invintational tournament, which means that it is filled by admins initiative, they talk to best players and invite them. Signups is just list of people for admins to consider if they cannot fill the slots otherwise, i.e. it's the last place where they will look.

Based on names only, Coman is the definite favorite. Based on experience and teamwork, I'd say 4Kings or Reason.

UFX could definitely have a decent showing with more practice, but they have a lot of ground to make up in a very short amount of time.

See, those kinds of statements are not obvious at all, you can't just assert that they're true. If we change "basketball" to "online TDM", the structure of the statement will remain the same, it won't become obvious just because we change one parameter.
Of course you will now say, LOL you moron, online TDM vs LAN TDM is not the same at all as basketball vs TDM! But if you think about it, that statement again is not an obvious one, and it too needs reasoning, otherwise it's just some dogma that you blindly believe, not knowing what the actual reality is.

Yes it's ok, and I explained why. I can repeat if you find reading too hard: "For duel we already have seen many LAN and online tournaments so we have some data to approximate the relation between the two". Not the same at all for TDM, because there were no LAN TDM QL tourneys.
That we didn't have direct match-up between them on LAN doesn't mean we can't compare their performance. For example, there probably wasn't a match between cooller and demon on LAN either, but that doesn't prevent us from putting cooller in top seed and demon in lower seed.

they have toxjq an absolute tdm beast same for linkje and winz and stermy are awesome as well, if you watch the jeesports tdm tourney vod's you clearly see they aren't mid-seed :S
on the other hand at least we're going to get some insane group matches in Group C with coman, srs, and the yankies, that's defo gonna be worth a watch :)

also for the duel map pool, as a spectator I'd definitely would want lost world replaced by ztn. lost world is just so boring to watch :/

i'd say ztn produces more entertaining matches than dm13, although both are on the lower end percentage wise for having good matches...although dm13 is one of the most balanced maps, it produces maybe 1 to 2 entertaining matches a tournament...

In my opinion dm13 is the best duel map as it emphasises error-less play more than any of the others. However, it's been around forever, and maybe the time has come to see a pool with two new maps replacing dm13 and aero.

If QL were all popular and stuff, ideally the map pool should completely rotate every year.

IMO, purely speaking from a spectator's point of view, while ztn and dm13 are both pretty boring to watch, dm13 is actually a little more entertaining to spectate for me personally. Generally seems like there are more encounters and it's easier for a player to catch the opponent out than it is on ztn. There are of course those rare matches on both maps that end up being really intense and amazing and suspenseful, but in general they're both pretty boring to watch, and dm13 is actually a little more exciting for me than ztn. And I agree abouth those group c tdm mattches. Going to be insane! Can't wait!

1. TDM seeds are a joke and as a consequence group C is simply unfortunate - one of the teams that all could probably end in top4 will be out of the tournament too early.
2. I really feel sorry for fazz, since he is probably the most unlucky Quake Live player thus far. Always facing people like rapha or av3k in early stages of the tournament and still giving great performances.

TDM seeds may look stupid. but they are correct.

teams who have shown results and have been around for a while get top seeds. new teams do not get top seeds.

even if you know that coman are a top contender, just because they have 4 allstar players and have beaten tons of good teams in recent events does not mean they deserver to go into the tournament with a head start.

they are a new team and thus do not deserve top seed.

I think that it would be a miracle if I managed to. I work 200+hours each month and in this country unless you're playing sc2 "pro" gaming is unrealistic unless you're a slacker living off others.

The dreamhack invitational stream on Sweden's biggest news site had more viewers than the royal wedding.
Never before have streams been this filled with spectators for any game _ever_(in the west atleast).

seeing how i used to be brood war b- on iccup at peak of my gaming, i can safely say that the game is crap and not worth playing. at least not until all 3 campaigns are out and blizzard delivers some good patches along the way.

seeing that, i'll stick to bw in the following years until sc2 comes at least close to the level of brood war.

I think the reason why UFX could beat many other teams is because they are LAN proven and made up of legitimate Quake pros.

LAN makes a big difference. Players like juvenile, west, and other online heroes usually will not be very good with their limited experience.

Whatever your opinion of Dahang and cl0ck might be, that's not the point.

The point is that Dahang has played numerous Quake LAN matches, and cl0ck has also been to several Quakecons and probably other LANs.

Dahang has even been on the big stage (where he's choked), but he's been there nonetheless. 3/4 players have been in several finals.

Quite a few players in this tournament have little to no meaningful LAN experience.

stermy, how important will the TDM tournament be for you compared to the Duel tournament?

Italy stermy: I think the TDM tournament will be my main tournament at Dreamhack , since I will not compete in the Duel competition at this event . Time/Personal reasons - but I will try my best to fully be back on 1v1 for Quakecon.

Oh well, now we know why czm is in the duel list..

Slayzah (one of the main DH quake admins) has asked me to post this on ESR on his behalf since he doesn't have an accont here and limited internet access atm.

Hey guys,

I just wanted to shed a bit of light on the whole seeding for the TDM tournament.

Since TDM on a major LAN hasn't happened in ages you can imagine how tricky this whole thing was for us. It was tough having to rank some of the teams which, even tho on paper had great individual players, had never played together in any TDM tournaments out there.
Not to mention that some of these teams changing line-ups so often didn't help our case either.

These seeds were made before the Jeesports Dremhack TDM tourney because myself and blaze were going to be away for a while before the start of Dreamhack,
and we didnt want to leave any unfinished business. In hindsight, it might have been better to wait, I know, but we're all humans :(

So once again, I'm sorry if any of the seeded teams felt offended, and hopefully there will be another TDM tourney out there that will be able to make good use of the experience gathered during Dreamhack Summer 2011. I really hope this is TDM being ressurrected right here, since it feels like learning to walk again.

it's true but theres nobody for ufx to scrim, like literally. The best they can do is like 3 ca'ers and 1 ctf guy with good aim, and they stomp them.
