I read that it won a Q3 duel map contest so figured it'd be an idea to try it out :P

I doubt it will work out very well.

look at its layout, its like disemberment but way more open and bigger => SUCKS. Solid aint proper duel map either.

If you will run this you should use map list like this: Battleforged, Concrete Palace, Phrantic.

Make it drop drop pick in first rounds and in later rounds just bo3

Make it longer. Like have 4 tournaments with the new maps in them and top 4 from each tournament then play each other and THEN winner gets the mouse.

(this is so we can actually spectate a lot of the lesser maps to see if they are interesting or not, since most pros probably won't show up to play a random map for a shitty mouse)

The 'shitty mouse' is just thrown in. I don't expect it to make people actually turn up, but it's better then nothing at all :P

IMO change devilish and solid for gothic rage and focal point.

Both devilish and solid despite not being in any offical tournament map pools. have been tested thoroughly and have been found unfit for competitive dueling. They are also both old q3 maps:

Solid(=cpm29) was played in vq3 occasionally and was even included in some CB cups mappool. QL tweaks ruined it imo.
Forgot what devilish was called in q3 but it's just to big.

On the other hand, both gothic rage and focal point haven't been played competitively in any duel cups in QL or Q3 (iirc).
I think though that if solid was scaled down a bit and/or had a railgun it could have be a great 1v1 map considering cpm29 was great for vq3 duels. I also think that even still with it's current layout it's a better map then focal point but then again it's never really for a fair shot.

Really like the idea though, just some food for thought.

Gothic rage will be horrid. Too many narrow corridors for +backing. Focal point is shit in every game type I've tried it in aside from FFA at a push :P

Tell you what, I'll throw in a brand new kinzu (one with the black scroll wheel) for the prize pool as well (not the mouse for me), it's better to put it up as a small prize than have it gathering dust in the cupboard.

If it helps get some new maps into/back in the duel pool then I'm all for it :)

I wish we could make and submit maps to id, I'd really like to complete the map I nearly finished for quake 4, as well as make some new stuff.

You can make a map for q3, but the chances of getting played and submitted are low.

Yeah I'm expecting [read: hoping] a couple new duel maps but as it stands, [in my opinion anyway] the new duel maps we currently have (that haven't already been tried a fair bit) are:
- Battleforged
- Concrete Palace
- Devilish
- Focal Point (blergh)
- Gothic Rage
- Phrantic
- Solid

Already mentioned I think Gothic Rage just wouldn't work because of the corridors. I vaguely remember watching QLTV doing a match on it during one of their koth evenings and it played out fairly poorly. Focal Point just looks shit and plays shit :P

Agreed, leave Gothic Rage and Focal Point out. Both aren't really good for duel in my opinion.

Not a bad idea at all actually. Just considering it probably won't get many sing ups and thus be a small tourney I'd prefer BO3 and BO5 finals. But then again, I guess you can still play BO5 finals with 3 maps and just play some maps twice. I'm actually starting to think a three map mappool is the best idea since it's less new maps to learn and might not deter as many players and might lead and a lot more sign ups. Also the other two maps aren't really suited for duel.

When you create the mappool please consider that some maps like phrantic and battleforged are already known by many players while the others are not. So people will end up playing those two much more then the rest...

Besides i'm also not sure if it's good to have a cup with many new maps at all. It isn't really possible to prepare them all and games will be pretty pointless. Something like a 'battleforged cup' or 'concrete place' cup would make much more sense because it would be possible to play the map a few times in advance and actually test it properly.
