Doom4 will be a nice single player game, MP will suck (coop would be nice). Quake5 will totally suck (on a Q4 level or worse) or simply be awesome.

Exactly. Id is clearly tailoring it's games for the mass audiences, not for the niche competitive hardcore. Mainstream is where the money is at so that's what they're aiming for. In fact, I doubt they ever really went into making games with the idea that they're going to turn into great competitive e-sports games. So basically they're doing the same thing they were doing before only they're making their games for more platforms and the gameplay continues to evolve (or devolve depending upon your perspective) into what it is today.

DooM 4 could be a crazy game if they tweak quakeworld's gameplay and call it doom4 :=)

What a lot of people don't realize is that many of the character modelers and map designers from the early ID days aren't even at the company at this point.

ID was the shit until after 99. D3 and Q4 were total
