By the way, last I checked, QFUSION was a modified (read: MODified) version of the Q2 engine. Also, Warsow is a modified (read: MODified) version of the base pak files.

It uses it's own engine (qfusion which has been further tweaked, qfusion did use q2 as it's base at some point, but it is more comparable to q3 engine then q2), it does not use any base pak files (from q2, I assume you think?). Anyway it's a pointless discussion, it's like me trying to convince you trees are blue (cause they are blue and not green).

Apart from the engine, it has been built from scratch, a mod is a modification of a GAME, not a modification of an ENGINE (which warsow isn't either as it's a complete, standalone GAME). Q3 is a Q2 mod, Q4 a D3 mod, the comparisons shall never stop \o/

The fact that is still runs on a modified version of the QFusion engine (try to keep up here, MODIFIED) is the first part. They have not replaced all the original quake code, nor have they replaced a lot. It's got some bells and whistles, but it's Q2 under the hood. As far as the pak files, they are MODIFIED game files. Of course they're not just baseq2 pak files with some edits, no mod is like that. However, it uses an alternate pak set (read: does what all other mods do) and loads those instead. Warsow is a mod in every way.

Whether it is ok to put this url here or not, there's still a video from a mod conference in France where they showcased W$w.

I've been nice and cut the first two thirds of the video which are just explanations in french, so that you can just enjoy the movement (performed by Blemish).

I remember playing the 2003 version. Impressions were mixed, but there were a lot of things missing and they re-did some models since then =)

looks brilliant and the movement is awesome, mixing the speed of bunnyhopping with the ramp jumps and wall dodges etc kind of adds a new element to movement associated with qw/promode.

imo it would be nice to have the speed kept for the dodges, working a bit like the how the grapple is used in qw, but just for scaling the levels or maybe it already is and i just cant do it? =)

BTW, anyone able to tell me why the game crashes when I try to play wdm1 after a few minutes? Really sad. =(

did you try gibbing the bodies with 'rail'? it makes the server crash sometimes.. try reconnecting, it kicks out clients ever 10 min or so :p.

I just bounced around alone and randomly got kicked off a few times, then crashed. Maybe something to do with the elevator, dunno.

The movement is incredible. I think the more I use it, the less i'll want to use any other kind of movement. Definitely raising the bar on the movement standard.

today i rebinded my config.. something like this.

rfdg - movement (my ordinary movement controls)
here is the special part:
mouse2 - jump (nothing special about it)
mouse1 - walljump (:O)
mouse4 - strong attack
mouse5 - weak attack

so ill be using the right hand a bit more in this game.. have only tried it on my ms1.1 and i dont think it will work any good on the ms3.0...

really hard to get used to but i cant se any other sulotion :S

our coders currently working on a complete new weapon system, so there will be 2 kinds of ammos for each weapon (strong and weak, mainly), and only one attack key. According to Blemish, our lead designer, this would introduce some interesting ammo deny tactic =)

Oh man, now this shit has potential for sure, there's no doubt about that. I got that feeling "this is hot!" while jumping around, trying out the movement etc.

I really feel Warsow is going in the right direction, which is obvious from a few of the big names who have signed up for the project. But, I think warsow has gone a bit too far with the movement.

Currently, players can move horizontally around 1000 units without touching the ground, and climb upwards by about 500 units. In order for mappers to create proper maps that won't be "broken" by the movement, you're looking at obscenely long gaps or extreme vertical differences to prevent people from traveling where they're not supposed to. Vertical action is a good thing, but this might be too much.

My general suggestion would be to limit the trick jumps to a single jump, which seems to cut down these numbers by a third.

I haven't been able to get a good feel for the weapons as I can't seem to get an internet game working :(

Then again, anyone who knows me, knows that I have very limited experiance with game design. So what do I know? :)

imagine the incredible stunts you can do than... and also as the weapons do alot of damage it balances out the fact that its shit hard to hit the enemies.

Well Jockos, we decided to limit consecutive wall jumps at 2, as a triple wall jump combo would required too much specific layouts in order to keep a good control of way points. Mapping layout, deeply binded to our trix focused gameplay, is big matter.

About weapon's damage, this feeling may come too from our extensive use of radius weapons (so as reducing ping discrimination). BTW, all this still need serious testing and tweaking :p

You can grind up a ledge if you jump on it and hold dash with no speed loss =) "à la Jet Set Radio" like they say in the presentation.

Our Ramp Slide move, not finished yet, is quite different than JSR's one (I speak about the original game on Dreamcast, never tested X-box version).
In JSR, remember how pain in the a** it is to get stuck at low speed without being able to jump off ramps...
In w§w, you simply have to release the dash button then you instantly get unstuck from ramp, and this brings big comfort =))

this game seriously can have movements like in the matrix, u do crazy stuff on walls that u never expect/thought u could do, omg i love it.
community roxx, weapons roxx coz its they suck at killing :D but that makes it even better! nebody used that crazy knife yet? imagine impaling someone midair using that... and the fast movement... u could easily have a duel full of spawn rape if u know 1337 movements...
this will dominate, both on the tricking and the fragging level. GG.

weapon changing is abit crazy atm. like ut2003 on steroids, u can shuffle through the weapons getting off lots of shots in a very short amount of time.
but the feel of the game is just right even now as its still unpolished

Got it last night and I'm pretty amazed!
It still feels like quake and it's the first game where I really enjoy jumping around without any enemies. Even as a noob I could do some crazy jumps.. this might be the game I've been waiting for without even knowing it! :)
