there are #cpmduel cups which are awesome, thanks to nevergreen and ethad, but rarely best players sign up

Sounds like fun, i think the QL lan in Enschede would be the last and only place for a small CPM tournament to be held. Problems ahead: BYOC? Prize money? Will enough players show up? Either way, it's not a problem for me to show up and even bring my 120hz monitor + mouse etc. I'm kinda taking a break right now from CPM (2-3 months) to focus on my job and some other stuff (including my cpm frag video) but i'm willing to dive intro CPM again hardcore, and ofcourse meeting some CPM players in real life would be awesome :>

Terifire, Padawan and myself are already going, and for a game with only 17 players, that's almost 20% of all CPMers!

As we've discussed, I think the location should be either Germany or the Netherlands due to their location, and there are plenty of places (for example the aforementioned WZZRD Gaming Café) the LAN could take place.

We could discuss this further some day on IRC. I have not been very active in CPM lately, but this will all change in a matter of months, when I get my life back on track. (Given I can get it back on track..)

On an unrelated note, I actually once dreamed of such an event! It involved all the Swedes+Norwegians+Danes coming to Finland with a huge bus to pick us Finns up, and then we continued via Russia, Estonia, Lithuania and Poland all the way to Germany. A bus full of CPMers drinking, fucking each other and eating pancakes (hail lennox). When we hit Germany, we picked up all the nazis except for nekon, for whom we had to order up a second bus.. Too bad I woke up after crossing the Dutch border so I never found out how it all went down in the end.. :(

That place looks like it's under 1 km from the hostel I was thinking of, which is StayOkay Vondelpark. It's cheap, not sketchy, mostly students, close to everything.

I think the best place would be around Germany, due to geographical reasons

germany is a way cheaper than NL in terms of food and party. i always had the idea of a big lan in czech republic since its ultracheap and more reachable for the eastern people.

since androits lan is full and we would just cause trouble there =), this is intended to be during summer 2013

The sooner you get a date/venue the better the chance people in NA will have in getting there. I get plenty of vacation time, but still would need ample time to sort out other things.

Also, if you're serious on making this happen you can maybe request some prizes from vendors, maybe donations. That would be a bit more work obviously, and in no way would change attendance for most. It may however convince those on the fence to participate.

to be honest i just wanted to see the impact on people, whether they liked the idea, seems like many people are interested, will try to organize it all next week, contact the guy from the cybercafe/gamecenter to know what kind of hardware they got and so on..

You could also charge ppl for 'tickets', maybe $80-100? I think that's fairly reasonable

if u really do it, do it right! heres a list of fatal failures seen on lans before:

-annoucing it 3 weeks before the actual LAN
- no 120 hz
-take care of well-running streaming equipment , test it before the lan starts
-chose a destination that is affordable and quite central
-if you wanna go serious a prize money that covers the average travelling costs, if not better spent the money on a good spec lounge and enough booze

I don't think the purpose of this particular LAN would be to have prize money. It's a nice to have, but for a game with such a small playerbase I doubt it will increase the number of attendees unless you give something extraordinary.

I'm certain the main purpose is to just gather a group of players who have played the game together, have fun and maybe get out on the town a bit. The prize money/prizes would just be a nice touch.

what can you tell us about wzzrd since you been there, terifire suggested that place before androits took place

ok umm wzzrd is in enschede the netherlands. its a really nice and calm town, with an excellent train connection. The inet cafe itself is part of an amusement complex including go-cart tracks, cinemas, arcades , bowling etc which is a bit outside of town in the industrial area. but dont worry enschede is really small and there are busses every 10-20 minutes. around wzzrds in a 10 minute walk-radius are 3-4 hotels so u dont have to worry about accomodation. to the cafe:
it is big enough to host 3x 4v4 or 5v5 tournaments at the same time. it has an integrated bar right in the center of the cafe which has excellent beer and really delicious food. also there is a small chill out area with 2 couches and a flatscreen tospec the games. i can highly recommend the place its perfect since u dont have to leave the cafe at any time! you can play, you can chat, you can eat, you can spec the games and you can party all night long.

my point of view:

still it is the netherlands. and NL is really expensive. it always bothers me that LANs are held in such expensive countries like sweden or NL. Germany is half the price of NL , CZ is a third the price of germany, PL is even cheaper i think! and all of these are as central as NL plus, they give the easterneuros a fair chance to be able to afford it. I dont know about cpm but the quake scene in general has a big and important part of its membership in the east.

In a nutshell: its a perfect place but u might think of something cheaper.

the thing about cheaper countries is that you will be less likely to find a good gaming center/internet cafe with good equipment, i personally haven't found anything, I wanted people to suggest me places but nobody really knew or didn't want to bother

u wanna tell me there is no gaming center in germany? a country so big u can hide a million netherlands in it :P? i see we would need someone from frankfurt berlin hamburg , there are surely some but how to find em

Just called them... they said it's no problem to host a small tournament but they warned that prices will go up as fewer people sign up... right now i'm going to put together an email containing more info & questions regarding monitors and stuff. As an indication i will state that between 6 and 16 players will show up. I guess we will have to create a ChipIn account to raise the money together, though i am willing to take a large percentage of the cost for my own since i don't have to travel by plane or whatsoever.

i would be willing to come too i guess :)

Okay guys a little update here regarding the email i sent to the Wzzrd staff, they replied (roughly translated):

- Allowed to install all necessary files needed to play CPM (so we need to prepare the pc's there some days prior to the actual LAN)
- 120hz monitors at the moment not available, but this is something they are considering in the near future (possibly next year)
- The use of personal peripherals (mice, keyboards) is allowed as long as this doesn't require third party software (executable drivers such as razer synapse etc.) to work. You might want to bring a plug and play 1000hz mouse like the DA or the Kana.
- Pricetag: A regular person (non-member) pays 4 euro per hour. They offer special arrangements on wednesdays and thursdays (9,50 euro for the whole day, seems interesting for us as tourneys usually delay more than originally anticipated). During the summer season, an additional arrangement is in effect (12,50 euro for ANY day during the week).
- Payment: Though the price per player seems to be fixed at 4 euro per hour, they also were willing to negotiate on the price (depending on number of signups, more = cheaper). Payment needs to be done 1 week before the event.

32...right...yeah... thats the reason why i study language, culture and literature xD we shouldmake another poll about when to hold the tournament focused on summer dates. Wednesdays and thursdays are always tricky since people have work etc. it is not just wednesday thursday you got to travel on tueday and leave on friday which is a whole week of absence basically. i have some close friends in high positions i could pull some strings and see if a real caster might wanna show up for fun, im sure my buddy zoot would be glad to do it pro-bono for the lols if he has time.

I am currently working on a documentary which is a really big thing but i dont wanna talk about it yet since im in the beginning. and i will use real life footage from the lan (thats right i am sure this will happen)

You're already thinking big haha, maybe i am very humble but i always thought (and still do) this cpm LAN will be very small and probably the last of it's kind. But yeah there was a small documentary made about the QuakeWorld community a while ago too so i guess it can be done. As for the dates i think we should aim somewhere near late august... i already scheduled my leave for next year summer from the 10th to 25th of august. Possible weekends to realise the LAN (for me): 10, 11 - 17, 18 - 24, 25. I guess a saturday + sunday will do? We could even finish it in 1 day but it would feel kinda useless to travel many hours just for 1 day of gaming. Having a famous caster for the coverage sounds exciting, since ZoOt was already there earlier this year he might do it again. One thing that's bothering me alot though is the airport connection... Enschede isn't exactly near Amsterdam Schiphol airport, do you know if Munster aiport has many international flights? We should also discuss this with memphis since i don't want to hijack his idea and i don't want to carry the burden of organising this myself at all :p

the docu is on a different yet related subject but thats a different story. august sounds about right to me. we should make it a weekend. friday warmup and socialising cause lets be honest thats the essential point of it. getting the cpm guys together to having a good time. saturday groups sunday finals and maybe some ctf or fun stuff. bitches love fun stuff. zoot and the netherlands is a love story dont worry about that. as far as i remember all people flew to amsterdam since münster barely has international flights. but still its about 2 hours by train from amsterdam to enschede thats acceptable imo. and yeah get memphis p4n etc together the more workforce the better
