There is no aimbot used whatsoever, every quad rocket jump, trick, wallhug, grenade jump, and shot has to be almost 100% precise, if you miss one of those you reload the map.. same again.. over and over

a little nerdy detail: singleplayer Quake1 engine uses a slightly different version than QuakeWorld (which was released 1 year later strictly for multiplayer).

in singleplayer there is more air friction. this means strafe jumping and bunny hopping are harder, making this even more impressive

*ground friction, not air friction. As I understand it you spend a frame on the ground getting slowed down, unlike in QW etc.

Is there a PAK file with the demos only?

Go to the Quake Done Quick website. Click Movies at the bottom, then select Nightmare 100% and there you will find 3 movies, one of them should be Quake done 100% Quicker

That should be most of the same demos, it is however a 6minute longer run.

There is no PAK-release as of yet, might be one in the future if on or two people find the time. If you download any of the videos instead of looking at youtube you'll find the demos inside the zip-file.

amazing :-), but I didn't know you could kill monsters with the nailgun when the scorescreen was already there ... one thing was nice it he threw a grenade or something on a monster before going into the slipgate and you see the killscore going up 1 point after 2 or 3 seconds ... also what I do not understand is that he can rocketjump with quad although he has no pentagramm, I mean rocketjump with quad deals like 400 damage ....
but I am not so sure if the scoreboard is 100 % real, to me it seems some monsters were left out at times ... but still quite impressive play ...

I was always under the impression that they left some out, but they probably have the route set up so that the ogres step on their own mines and such.

if you exit the level firing the nailgun or lighting gun, you can fire through the intermission view.

the routes used have some crazy setups where monsters start fighting eachother, kill themselves or they're baited into traps.

would be cool if they left the monster HUD indicator while capturing this. you'd be more aware of monsters killed out of view.

really crazy to come up with the idea to design routes so that monsters kill themselves ... but still cool to see this idea being executed :-)

The explosion has a radius (splash), and on the outside there is less damage but still enough force to boost you. With quad this is just magnified, so its possible to pull over a quad rocket jump, but you have to be extremely precise.

I've seen quite a few players pull of quad rocket jumps even in league 4v4s, but they generally do it with much more health/armor.

A direct quad hit is 400 damage, the very outside of the splash is just lower than 100 depending.

this is impressive as fuck, if it was a single run it would be almost as impressive as doom2 under 30 mins on nightmare :)

well quake 2 was released at the end of 97 I believe, and Quake 1 was realeased in summer 96, so after only 1.5 years there was already a successor ... you know quake 1 is *legendary* because it was real breakthrough in graphics with full 3D Objects everywhere, maybe there were already other games with real 3D Objects at that time, but compared to quake they did all just look like crap, they were probably even less spectacular than doom ...
doom and quake were breakthroughs in graphics at that their time and this is why they will always remain legends and why they will last ...

I used to think people who did tricking were nerds. Surely speedrunning is more nerdier? You have to spend countless hours of your time memorizing the levels and then figuring out how to do it the fastest.

Probably good for people with obsessive compulsive disorders.

Yes it is. There are 4 styles in speedrunning: easy (the lowest) and nightmare (the highest) difficulties, each played either for killing every single enemy and finding each secret area or for getting through the level as fast as possible.

It takes 9 (3 with quad). If you saw an ogre die to a single shotgun blast then it is likely they had been damaged somehow earlier in the run.

maybe it was double barrelled shotgun, don't expect people to make the difference :)

map 2 at the start he goes past some (doesnt kill....) and doesnt go back...then up the stairs he kills 1 guy with 1 double barrel~

I noticed the same thing. Maybe some of the ogres eventually nade themselves? I think some of the enemies shoot at each other, which might account for the orge being weak at the top of the stairs. The dudes who made this obviously know the AI well.

i also found a few demos in my demo collection named with the suffix "missingkill". in those the AI doesn't get manipulated too well, the monsters either get stuck to eachother in a doorway/staircase or the weak monsters don't die from fighting with upper tier ones or by friendly fire

ok, i've watched the demo with the monster counter..

what he does is he shoots the monsters or triggers them and if they don't get killed they try to follow the player through the level.. then the player intersects with them later on

@ the movie: amazing. blink and you`ll miss something, literally.

watching this makes me wonder why new games are so speedrun-unfriendly. they give the player less freedom, going from one scripted scene to another, and barely tricks like bunnyhopping, rocketjumping and whatever to make it through a map faster. result: really old classics like doom and quake have a community that´s still improving records to times that were utopic when these games came out, while now mostly... one looks at the graphics and scripts once or twice and that´s about replay value. just my 2 cents.

Excellent job. I do remember painfuly getting every secret and kill on each level back when the game first came out and tryng to do it without dieing on each level. Really good skill to get these competed in these times without pressing save or pause? :) I rem pressing those shit loads to get it right!! Nice to see it done properly. There is some good accuracy in parts, but when i played it I was using ball mouse. Would be nice to hear the mouse set ups etc of some of the players?

I used a normal gaming setup (playing qw and cpma mostly back i the day), logitech g7 (or was it 5) and random crap €10 keyboard. But there's loads of old demos I made with a ball mouse that remain records still. Not in this release though.

if you want fancier graphics (normal mapping etc.), download DarkPlaces engine instead of EZQuake (i recommend EZQ if you want to play online too)

It's funny that the links got removed from the speeddemosarchive.com site from the QdQ section AND from various places that the movies is present at (like SDA forums and their FB site) , while the YT link (with horrible compression even at 720p setting) remains easy to find, same as Your links to Qd100Q both at SDA forums AND their site. Very strange.

I've spent a lot of effort and wasted quite an amount of time and nerves to get it (well, maybe using wrong methods, but still... couldn't even find it on p2p) AFTER I had to delete it from my old HDD, since I was running out of space (paint my horror later, when own-age got scrapped and it seemed to be the ONLY LINK to download the file from! : O ).
So just imagine my relief when after searching high and low, I finally searched after the filename itself and luckily drilled every link, until I found Your distribution site! Can't describe it really! : )
