.. and yes I do know that urinating on a monitor is potentially hazardous but what I'm really asking about is whether I will be able to hook my Wii to my monitor ...

I don't have a TV but my Sony 24'' CRT (FDW-900 or something like that) has RGB connectors at the back.

I'm hoping that I can get a connector with RGB one end and SCART the other ...

I have PC surround speakers I'm hoping to use for sound.

Has anyone done anything like this ? Will it work or am I scuppered ?

I may buy a Wii if this is possible. There simply isnt room in this tiny student flat for a TV :D.

sweet - as for the sound do you know if I can plug into my Creative Labs surround sound ? iI guess I should give more info about the connectors but they are all pretty standard arent they ?

wouldn it be crazy good picture quality if you hooked it up to a tft/crt monitor compared to a regular 4:3 tv?

The best option quality wise for a Wii is to buy a component input VGA Box. You will get 848x480p, the best resolution Wii can output, but you have to spend money in both the cables and the VGA Box.

Wrong. PS2 outputs 640x480[b]i[/i], which is a lot worse. Only some games, less than 1%, support progressive scan, and even less suport 16:9.

Yep. NGC has more support for progressive scan (every first party game supports 480p) and XBox is a lot better, it even has games that support 720p.

Wii vs. Laptop

When the [Nintendo Wii] warning screen appeared today saying 'Attach wrist strap and keep your distance from other objects in the room,' I laughed at such a silly proposition. I don't need a shaq-fuing wrist strap, I'm a man dammit. One shattered laptop screen and thrown Wiimote later, I've changed my position on the issue.
