im going to try and keep this brief and to the point...

the winner of the wallpaper contest is the entry with the most [+] and there is only a prize for 1st place, its a $50 headset from icemat and the title of "ESR Wallpaper contest winner."

there are 35 entries from talented people who dedicated some of their valuable time to produce a nice wallpaper for ESReality with the expectation that the best designed wallpaper would recieve the most votes. but the whole contest went pear-shaped when entry 36, the "joke" entry was posted (it wasnt posted at first because its insulting to ESReality and Icemat, and especially to the other people who made an effort for this comp.) but ZImmerman complained and the admins were forced to post it because it doesnt break any of the contest rules (please note neither does this post).

so whats the problem? the community will surely vote for the best designed entry, the one they might actually use as their background, and that entry will win? wrong. not enough people are taking this contest as seriously as the 35 competitors and they are just adopting the attitude of "oh lolz mspaint... ha ha vote." which shows that the general ESR user has little or no appreciation and respect for artistic/design talent, and its not something to be proud of.

so my appeal to you is to re-evaluate the entries and to vote for one (or more than one) that you really believe is good, one that you feel actually looks good on your desktop and is deserving of 1st place.

here is a list of the designs that in my opinion deserve your [+].

entry 20 (currently runner up to the "joke" entry)

entry 31

entry 20 is the closest runner up to the joke. so if you want to make a difference then [+] this one :)

ps: i am expecting alot of negative replies (lies and false accusations) to this. go nuts cus i wont bother to read them.

first of all, if i were to vote any other entry but this, i wouldnt vote entry 20 juts cause its the runner up? i dont like entry #20 deal with it.

this is the only entry that appealed to me, that i found interesting, and creative!

also, fatal1ty put down 8 hours a day gaming, the following 16 hours of the day he's just geek in different ways. does this mean he should win every tourney, everyone else should just forfeit, cause he puts in more time? no, cause he aint the best anyway, and thats also the situation here! this 10minute project is, imo, better than the "3 weeks"-one.

we're not voting because of "oh lolz mspaint". you have to realize that good work doesnt have to be complicated and time consuming. this wallpaper is funny and pretty much captures the spirit of ESR. i've had it on my desktop ever since i saw it. i'm not too bad with photoshop and drawing on the computer but i wouldn't have thought of something like this. i love this for the idea. sometimes a single stroke can be better than something with 50,000 polygons.

who's to say that this is not artistic? number 20 does look good but it looks like something we've all seen a million times over the internet.

btw, i've experienced similar things to this quite a lot but you just have to deal with it. if you take a look at a couple of game vids done by me, which are on this website you'll know what i'm talking about. there are quite a few people who know the kind of work that goes into it but are still bored by it because i don't give them anything 'fresh'. i've understood that so i'm working on it. the guy who made #20 should try and understand too. it's not about the skill with software, it's about the idea which catches people's attention.

edit : and i voted for quite a few from your list too including number 20 but it's kinda obvious and annoying that a group of people, all from the same place defend that entry but put down all the others like it was their duty to do so.

ESR is the last place where votes should be taken seriously in thing's like this, simply becasue there's so many disruptive people on here who will pathalogically say this is the best, just becasue they know it's actually the worst and that's their idea of being rebellious or an opportunity to be argumentative.

You should have just have a few trusted people/admins from different sites and voted among yourselves.

As it stands the whole thing is now joke and you'll discourage any future decent work from people because you can win with a bag of shit like this.

It was obvious something like this was going to happen, as people pointed out before the thing began.

I bet even if the best if the best artist's in the world of 2d/3d entered this tourney it would stil llose to this, which actually damages the community when you have people like potential sponsors who look in, cuz they're gonna be thinking.

Why waste my time with these people/community?

when things like this happen it discourages me from running further competitions and by that i mean the whine and accusations made... the users on esr will always be the same, love them or hate them. tbh if the competition was for something worth alot more �� things would have been run a little differently. We just wanted to give something back to our regular user base.

this entry was obviously submitted as a joke, and "haha" it is funny... but everyone is voting for it and if this wins then the whole competition will be a big joke. what about the other 30 people who spent weeks on trying to produce a good wallpaper for this competition?

i saw some good designs in here, and it will be a real shame if they all lose to this joke... i dont believe for a second that anyone would actually use this as thier wallpaper and therefor it kills the entire point of this competition! thanks :(

i know of one person who did that, and i didnt ask him to... but the fact is he didnt have an account but he wanted to vote so he made an account. INFACT, the very reason i have an ESR account is because there was a poll a few months ago that i wanted to vote in. dont get me wrong, ive been reading articles for years... so i dont see whats wrong with suddenly registering, especially if its only 1 person. if there was more than one (which there isnt) then maybe you would have a case... otherwise you're just being annoying.

well stuff like this happens quite often. the problem is many people don't realize that it's often not about putting in hours of work but just finding a way to reach out to people. this wallpaper did just that. it was already stated in the rules that the entries would be decided by the number of plusses which means that you really need to try and do something which grabs the attention of people. i understand your point and it is hard for some people who did spend a lot of time but yeah :/

Well the picture is fun. Though dont understand its popularity.
I though it was more about skills to make a nice design and grafich skills.
In Deviantart there are people who make ammaizing pictures and wallpapers and they even sell them. This is fun picture and very nice try, though makeing a wallpaper when drunk ..... ? Must be very booring night :).

ok i have kept quiet till now but i feel i have to say something... after the complaints i have received.

This wallpaper captures the spirit of the hardcore esr user. iMsging ppl to vote for a wallpaper for whatever reason will not be tolerated... the person who is doing this knows who he is. *glare* i have had a number of complaints about this so STOP!

The reason i didn't post this image the exact same time as the others got posted (just slightly after) is because i wanted it confirmed by other admins and we agreed this should be posted because it captures the spirit of esr. The one person i thought might be upset/pissed about this is infact fine about it (i assume as he hasn't complained).

Yes it is a fun entry but esr (i hope) is about fun and not taking life too seriously... so please stop the bitching female act and lighten up.

This wallpaper gets a [+] from me

To all those insulting poles and Russians, and South Africans... Sigh. I am every one of those :(
Yes, wallpaper and art contests always get screwed up like this. It happened in guildwars with the cloak design thing as well.
In my opinion, this is complete rubbish. Sure its origonal, but it is an insult to other artists who actually spend time on their work, as well as the sponsors. The statement "Am drunk" really depicts what a joke this wallpaper is. Im sorry, but this isnt a wallpaper and it should deserve to win. Any one of you guys commenting on how "this is art, its origonal etc etc" could paint something like this. Im sure your little sisters could paint something exactly the same. It takes no skill, no time, and no thought.
I dont actually care who wins (as long as it isnt this one), there are many good entries out there, all who stand a chance. I dont think the competition should end in this way. It just makes this website look like a joke in itself.

This is like the grail scene in Indiana Jones and to make it short, the SA people are the nazi guy.

People mistake a wallpaper for a big canvas, a wallpaper is supposed to have icons on it and needs to not be annoying. Also as most people probably still use CRTs, white/light backgrounds are like looking straight into a lightbulb, gl with that. With that in mind, this one wins hands down. Captures the spirit perfectly.

The sad thing is, next time there is a competition similar to this no one will bother making an effort because they will remember this mess, and all you will get is a load of "joke" ms paint entries. Everyone will miss out on the chance to not only create work and get it noticed, but also to download some work by some people who do have talent :/

well "im deunk" is just like every saterday and sunday early mornings on shadowfire. And I bet its like that on other irc servers aswell. In the 'piece' it portrais that picture, some gamer being or pretending to be drunk on a quake server or on irc. Its like the "O rly?", "zomgwaffelBBG!!!1oneeleventy" 'sayings gamers can relate to, it has nothing to do with being cool. Yeah I managed to miss this myself, if I was around I may have been able to do some damage control over the reaction of the saffas. Of course remember that our community is larger than 2 or 3 people.
