Cypher: "Most comfortable... is Cooller" (78 comments)
Posted by Thorin @ 18:04 CDT, 29 June 2010 - iMsg
Over at SK Gaming the DreamHack Summer runnerup Belarus Alexei "Cypher" Yanushevsky talked in an interview about the upcoming ESWC event.

Asked how he matches up with the elite group of players composed of United States of America rapha, Poland av3k and Russia Cooller the IEM IV European champion explained:
Most comfortable for me is cooller, I've played him many times, and I have something inside which gives me opportunity to read him really well. Also I've won several times against av3k, and I also don't feel really uncomfortable playing him. At the moment only rapha gives me a hard time, I don't know much reasons, but maybe one of the reasons is that I stop believing in myself when I'm playing him, it gives him much advantage.

Cypher also gave his thoughts on why he thinks av3k can defeat rapha, which map he would remove from QuakeLive and what he likes about QuakeLive better than CPMA, the Q3 version which brought him his ESWC title in 2008.

The interview can be read at SK Gaming.

ESWC Sweden - LAN Completed (39 comments)
Posted by Dronar @ 11:26 CDT, 5 June 2010 - iMsg
Today fazz beat mAdix with 3-1 in maps. Both players will represent Sweden in ESWC Grand Finals in Paris this summer. fazz will get his license, travel and hotel paid. mAdix earned his license fee but has to finance travel and hotel by himself.

Since Sweden has 3 spots we will arrange an online qualifier to find the last player to send to Paris. The qualifier will take place 12:00 CDT, 10 June 2010.
To sign up for this qualifier, send an email to [email protected] or contact Dronar on IRC.

ESWC Frag movie competition (61 comments)
Posted by xou @ 13:05 CDT, 31 May 2010 - iMsg
If you feel like the last fatal1ty frag movie contest let you down, there might be another chance for you to win something out of a frag movie. The news is not exactly fresh, but nobody cared enough to post it on ESR already. Here is the thing: ESWC and Allo ciné (French website) are organizing a "Frag movie Festival". In clear terms that's a frag movie making contest, and that one is to be rewarded with $5,000 for the winner.
"You can submit your link by June 10th at [email protected]. Then the ESWC organizing committee and Allo cine will choose the 10 best Frag Movies.
Everybody can vote for the best frag movie from June 11th to June 30th through the eswc.com or allocine.com, the winner will be known on July 4th at the World Game Show and will get back home with the $ 5,000 reward."

ESWC 2010 Finals: 3 more invitations (103 comments)
Posted by xou @ 19:32 CDT, 14 May 2010 - iMsg
The Organizing Committee for the ESWC 2010 Finals decided to grant exceptional autoberths for players and teams left without a qualifier in their countries. This should compensate for the lack of partners in some countries during the resconstruction of the qualifying circuits. For now, the Quakelive tournament is set for 16 players including 3 exceptional autoberths. This leaves 3 slots for the following players who recently attended LAN events (list isn't exhaustive): DaHanG, noctis, stermy, Jibo, chance, Griffin, Vo0, k1llsen, calipt, draven or spammah.

The deadline to send the applications is fixed to the 28th of May. The players will be selected according to their "achievements, motivation and capacity to attend" the event. The list of selected ones will be announced on May 31th.
"Invited participants will only have to pay their travel to Paris. ESWC will provide complimentary accommodation (bed and breakfast) from June 30th (arrival) to July 5th (departure). All invited players and teams will have to set their journey and secure their travel before June 10th."
