May 15:
Waking up at 8am, we planned to rent a car and drive to Tijuana, Mexico. Deciding the airport was the best place to find a car rental place, we had to wait until midday for the hotel shuttle to take us there. While waiting we had a small photoshoot with the awesome glasses.

Choosing Hertz car rentals, we found a huge E3 welcoming banner at the car rental place.

The customer service lady Angela really hooked us up. We now had a small SUV and directions to LiLi’s (aka MiLf) house!after bad directions and two wrong turns off the freeway (one landing us on the outskirts of Compton… is this our destiny?) we reached LiLi’s! After staying there for a bit, we left to go to Tijuana around 6:15pm. The directions to Mexico from Cypress (where LiLi lived) were pretty straightforward. Only one wrong turn off the freeway into San Diego and we were in Tijuana! There was no trouble/questions at the boarder, it was a red light / green light system. We drove around the streets looking for a hotel that didn’t look too dodgy.

The one we chose was $40 for a room for three. The room was in the red light district and we had some serious eyeballing from some guys on the way to the room which made me pretty uncomfortable (it’s not just regular “checking out”). We left that hotel 5 minutes after arriving when our room door handle was totally damaged and the room didn’t close at all. There was also a cockroach in the bathroom, the sink was falling off its fixtures and the sheets were stained (we all know what the stains were) and dirty. The hotel owner didn’t speak English. We only got the room because an old drunk named Richard translated for us. At this point, Richard was nowhere to be seen and the guy at the front desk only gave us $25 refund of our initial $40. The guys that were first checking us out were now making chicken noises, haha… I’d rather be in a lockable room and get called a chicken!

We had just loaded all our stuff back in the car and Richard comes up to the drivers window and was going to show us where to park but we were leaving already. He recommended another motel in the non red light district with parking! The Alaska Motel. It was good for $28 a night for three of us. These beds also had graffiti on them but I think the hotel staff did this. Anyway, safely in a motel by 10:15pm and we haven’t had that much trouble yet!
