In the olden days (not when I was around), people indulged in entertainment and the arts because it was prestigious, sophisticated. They were never abused or patronized by large corporations with flashy, animated movies that have no message or use. Media, then, was produced by people who actually cared about their works, people who actually had something to say. And people came together and imbursed them for their efforts.

You need to do your reasearch if you honestly believe current copyright laws protect the artists in any way, shape or form. They were specifically created (later 1700's) to protect the producers and manufacturers of books, the interest of the artists have never been taken into account for such laws.

In reality one can argue that downloading helps artists because they weaken publishing houses. What sweden is attempting to do is revolutionary to say the least.

american movies have been noticing a drop in sales because the movies have been shit :)

Also the amount of movies every year has dropped significantly since the 50's or so. And now they only produce the "safe" selling movies :(

my friend, who didn't want to post says that this would be bad for Sweden because no one would buy rights from their country.

Probably, but atleast we would be able to download stuff from people all around the world, not having to worry about going to jail. But I think its worse if we cant even go to the cinema to watch a good movie with friends or buy a flashy cd as a gift to someone.

In the long run, people will start losing their jobs if that happends, and I think that would be even worse. It still doesnt make sense though that 20% or more of our total population are being called criminals :P

not that I know anything about britain, but from what I've read (slashdot and the likes) it seems to be very draconian when it comes to copyrights, piracy, etc.

Translated into P2P terms, this appears to mean that the person who initially seeded copyrighted material almost certainly breached the terms of his license with the seller, and could be liable for losses and damages, but this doesn’t appear to apply to reseeded copies. Even if the court begs to disagree, this still amounts to the absolute defense of innocent infringement (S97):

“Where in an action for infringement of copyright it is shown that at the time of the infringement the defendant did not know, and had no reason to believe, that copyright subsisted in the work to which the action relates, the plaintiff is not entitled to damages against him…”
