the south island looks alot more exciting i must say. though the north east coast of the north island looks nice (?). could you name some nice places to head to around christchurch? thats where we'll be landing, just to get started :p will be doing a month or so cruising around first

Well definatly head to the west coast.... i'm not too familiar with places around chistchurch but I do know that there are a LOT of nice places to see on the west coast! Also go to Milford Sound, and Lake Marion (which is really close to Milford Sound).

I've been there, really great place. It's like a mix of Finland, Scotland and the Alps. Still ranks in the top 5 places I'd like to consider spending the rest of my days in.

Edit: Franz Josef glacier rocked. We took a day's hike up there, still have a poster on my wall from there, beautiful place.

yeah it really is beautiful there :) I only took the little walk to the bottom of the glacier. Too bad the weather wasn't a little sunnier, although the clouds gave it an eerie mysterious look :)

One of my best mates is off round the world on Tuesday. Ending up in NZ for the Lions rugby tour. Im one envious bastard. From what iv heard off him and tom in IRC, sounds like one fecking hell of a place.
