What do these groups even mean in the first place?

Everyone in a group plays each other. The 2 players with the best results move on to the playoffs, and the other 2 are eliminated.

I wouldn't be much surprised if they place evil into the A groups after/if he gets through the BYOC sandbox =)

Most probably yes, ive got nothing against rapha but it would be an amazing kick in the nuts for whoever crafted those groups if rapha ends eliminated in group stage.

AFAIK two of each group advance, they might be both out but thats unprovable, whats possible is one of them being out and not doing any $$$.

Thats the double elimination stage imo, group stages dont have second chance, unless theyre just a seeding group stage like previous quakecons, but i doubt it because the next item in the schedule is RO16.

I guess so, the seeding and grouping always confuse the shit out of me sometimes, especially when it's not stated early, that or my lack of attention on events, more than likely the latter.

From the look of it, every group is composed like this :

- 1 European who qualified through winner bracket
- 1 American who qualified through winner bracket
- 1 player (EU or NA) who qualified through lower bracket
- 1 player who qualified through BYOC


Sounds great to me, and every group is exactly like that.

Except for Rapha's group... Rapha has with him two players who qualified from the lower bracket !

I have one possible explanation though. My theory is that the two winner bracket seeds from Agent and Cypher, didn't get automatically re-assigned to Tox and Vo0. And they decided to give them to Cooller and Tox (or Cooller and Raisy) instead.

1. He seems motivated.

2. He will be coming into this warmed up from BYOC and with boosted confidence from winning there.

3. All Europeans will be jetlagged, so it can get random between them. (Rapha topping the group is a safe bet of course)

He has choked pretty much every single time he has come up against rapha, no matter how big of advantage he has had.

He will lose to rapha, again and just tilt.

Although he'd deserve to finally get a win, I'm certain that he will go out fast and would be lucky to get a few map wins.

Dont be so hard on evil, he won the DH final vs rapha, and was 1 rocket away from winning a Quakecon final vs rapha.

And Rapha immediately admitted it was the hardest final he had ever played.

On US soil, rapha was his kryptonite and probably will continue to be in this MOBA :) However, even if evil ends up in this group, he could beat Cooller and get $10k for advancing from the group. I don't see why not.

Evil will go to group A from BYOC. It is guaranteed! The format is retarded anyway. Last 2 from each group will be out only after 3 games. Aweful!

Its crazy theres not an official Quakecon source with all the info about how the structure of the tournament works.

I believe its:

Group stage (32), two of each group qualifies, so next round is:
RO16 (they assure a minimum pay of 10grands, those that didnt advanced the group stage get 0$)
Then RO8, RO4, Semis, Final.
Also no info about losers bracket, as it was announced as double elimination.

It's a single elimination bracket. Group A may not be that bad for Cooller and Rapha, as at least they won't meet each other again until the final (as long as they qualify).

The liquid page is confused as it says double elimination at the top but then it has a diagram of a single elimination bracket.

I am pretty sure it must be single elimination as 9th-16th places all have the same prize money, and the same for 5th-8th. That only makes sense with single elimination.

How about a proper format for a fucking 1 million dollar tournament. Like dota 2 ti for example. What the fuck is this shitfest? Unbeleviable. Why not at least 32 player double brackets after groups? Or put the last two from the groups directly to the losers bracket. Dont send them home after 3 games. It is fucking random anyway cause of the byoc qualifers. Very good players can enter the groups from there.

Anyway, from the schedule, it looks like we're going to see 4 matches from the groups (and a possible 5th if there is a tiebreaker needed).

What I would like to see (assuming Evil makes the BYOC) :

Round 1A : Cooller vs Rapha
Round 1B : Evil vs (Strongest opponent of his group)
Round 2 : Loser of Round 1B vs (the other high seed)
Round 3 : Loser of Round 1A vs Wichtl

These are the most interesting to me, as these will be the two groups with the highest chance of an upset for a favorite.

Group A is beyond retarded, yes. it shouldn't surprise anyone if either rapha or cooller get kicked out early, as obviously they're understimating wichtL. All that while other groups seem weak as fuck...

If cooller gets kicked out early it would be super bad for him, all the time he has invested playing the game to not get a $ the same year where there is a lot of $ to be made, and for quakecon spec numbers, cooller is the player that brings the biggest amount of eyes than any other player. He would get so mad he may even stop playing the game altogether.

rapha, much less probable, he doesnt has to deal with jet lag and different timezone, which is worse in the first day.
