There's a balance to have between Good free user content and good paying user content. I think the current system is superior to what we had before (static standard map pool). Would having no premium maps at all be better? Surely it would be better in the short term for the players but long term consequences can be bad if that means less people see the need to subscribe.

What kills quake live is not having enough people paying. If all good maps are available all the time then they are not going to pay. I prefer the game being up for years with 1,000 players than only for some months with 10,000..

Then there's a second issue of what is 'alive'. To me alive is not playing dm6 ca 24/7, so I like that map rotation exists even if there weren't money concerns.

I'm not really sure people will organize tournaments for a game that could be shut down before the scheduled date. Moreover, if the subscription rate is too low to cover the expense related to standard players, the more players there will be, the faster the game will be shut down. So that 100,000 players situation would be worse than megaman3's 10,000 one. That said, I doubt a change like this could suddenly boost the number of players.

it's actually the best out of the popular maps for 4v4 on a high-ish level, defined by clear positions, good ability for teamwork in late stage of rounds, bad teamplay is not a question of spawns, but bad players

- overkill is either chaos on 3rd, spawn lottery or grenade fights between 2nd and 3rd level
- dm6 is spawn lottery
- ca3 isn't played unfortunately
- dm20 2nd best with the high danger of teammates not able to position themselves and putting the good players in 1v2s a lot

Agreed. Asylum including with trinity are one of the best 4v4 skill wise maps in CA. Rest of maps are dependant on spawns especially OK, dm6 and dm20.

From pillars you can get to RL and if u go thru tunnel u are usally spammed to death.

from pillar jumpad you just go straight to third pillar, fast as fuck

Try it without being blocked in tunnel at 4v4. Even at steps LG you cant get on position in time or without being blocked. Dm6 is much of lottery.

I didn't like the new system initially, but at least in NA, it was so hard to get a premium game going before, which meant you were permanently stuck on standard maps. I almost NEVER play in standard servers anymore, because people finally fucking ponied up for premium. New map rotation was a good idea, and it paid off quickly.

I think the best model would be all servers are "standard", and premium users can callvote premium maps, and non-premium can't F1 premium content. If there are enough paying users to F1, great. No more "I'll make prem (disconnects)", and no more standard servers full of prem users, unable to play prem content. My $0.02 :)
