Did they have any reasoning behind it besides saving money? Did they do any research to see the effects of removing newyork/chicago? were these high traffic servers? I know chicago was a decent compromise for people located in different parts of NA opposed to say texas.

VA wasn't removed. IL, NY, and GA are gone. Those locations were decommisioned by the server provider. It wasn't a money or traffic thing on id's end or even their decision. They added IN and DC as replacements.

Ah, thanks for the information this makes more sense but still weird how they didn't mention it to anyone. Who was the provider out of curiosity? Also isn't there other chicago providers? (for me and I'm assuming higgs as well DC and IN don't work for us) :(

Dont think the size of our community allow such a thing to be viable in most areas of the world. Pay for the game + pay for one server, it s borderline for just a game. And most of the playerbase is made of standard users.

EDIT: dunno the situation in your region (if you really come from FR, sure it's feasible), maybe the playerbase which could benefit from a new server location is too small.

Would have been nice to get an official statement considering some people including premium/pro users may be affected.

Besides the other locations I would buy 12 months of PRO subscription if chicago was put back in place, assuming QL/id uses the same provider or that I get roughly the same ping (50-60 range) with another provider. Food for thought :)

lol Yea I feel a bit duped. I bought a pro sub like a day or two before this shit cause my friend wouldnt stop accusing me of being cheap for not ever subbing heh. Now I can't even play.. I'd ask for a refund but I know id is like a desperate whore these days, I know there is no point in asking.

Considering chicago was the only server I ping less than 70 to I think I'm taking the news pretty lightly. The one west server I did get good ping to (san fran) has been gone for a while and the other 2 west server's for what ever reason I get 70 and 80's(it's a routing issue not a provider issue on my end, shaw cable is what you get over here). But I guess I will be chilling out now with no server's to play on. :(

Sucks for people who need those servers. Luckily for me it means more people playing on servers I use. In Chicago 80 ping. Atlanta 80 ping. New York was a bit lower. Routing is the enemy of online gaming.

Chicago was impossible to get people into .
Most of east coasters are convinced it was the worst server ever because of some bad two weeks.
I always had 30 ping to Chicago and loved playing there, but games were happening so rarely.
IN is 40 for me = ok.

Why the hell do they have both an Ashburn, VA and Washington DC server? They're less than 30 miles apart.

Given how shitty routing to qlive servers can be. That 30mi will probably result in a 60ms difference for a lot of people.

Works out fine for me. Shit routing prevented me from playing on those servers anyway even though I'm in the Northeast. I actually ping well to DC though, so it looks like a win. At least I have two options I can ping decently to now.
