Because while it is efficient enough to play with, there is nothing video worthy about it. If you're making a frag movie, don't include such boring things to watch, which is why almost all QL movies pale so much in comparison to CPM, and even vq3 movies, the gameplay is boring. Especially the hitbox-is-irrelevant-click-anywhere-and-hit rails of QL.

pretty good! It's more like your movie featuring your friends than a proper gc movie I would say.

the config was awesome. (except the crosshair I don't see the point) Next time you should look into color correction, add some contrast, change levels, brightness maybe some glow or some shit, I think you just slapped the footage on the timeline and that was it.

Editing was clean and there was some synch gj on that. Flow was really ok except some sequences where you had to fastforward (personal opinion but I hate that shit).

Frags were really good, not enough TDM though

edit: no pun intended on "i dont see the point". Btw was izighar really featured?

very good movie. what it does it does right.

i was going for 6/10, but clicked 5/10 :F

- washed out colors, (altho it did remind me a bit of vq3) :D
- could use more smart editing and syncing with music like u did with pixel rails
- hud was allmoast a good thing (if the colors wouldnt be so washed out)...
- randomly placed frag counter
- hard to read player name font (didnt know when, what player was playing)

+ i loled at the news post for the frag movie
+ nice high quality picture (washed out colors aside)
+ no ghosting
+ simple
+ good frags
+ nice editing with the multiple pixel rails

Very good frags except for the TDM part which were too rail heavy and quickly got boring. But i guess TDM/CTF frags get that in general :<

The video quality seemed kinda bad somehow. Too gray and fuzzy. Different lighting or some kinda visual filter prolly coulda helped.

Woah dude wtf. There is a very small amount of girls on this site so there really is no need to play this whole white knight thing. In fact I'm sure the percentage of males on this site divided by the percentage of sexual assault cases on men in general is higher than the percentage of women on this site divided by the percentage of sexual assault cases on women in general.

While your post still consists of plenty of nonsense I do agree with the sentiment that the arbitrary use of the word rape in other contexts diminishes the reality of it and the word loses its power. It has been brought to my attention in this thread and I will look to eliminate it's other meanings from my vocabulary. Never the less me using the word in the title of the movie is not in any way worse than you using it towards your friends or any other person using it on this site or ingame. It is very hypocritical of you to start a shitstorm in this thread while apparently supporting the use of the word as long as there is less of a chance of a woman reading it.

I was trying to, in a easy way describe that I do understand your choosing of title and the inside joke, since I'm a quake player myself, and followed the scene for quite some time.

However, since this is a movie and a file, and we are on the internet, where nothing stays where you initially perhaps intended, and perhaps you want to show this movie to your future colleagues, children, family, friends or similar. For them or anyone else who randomly stumbles on this file, it might be wiser not to perhaps explain why you have chosen the word 'child' (even if removed now) and 'rape' in the title as the opening of the conversation. If you do not see this now, perhaps you will later, or perhaps not at all.

I don't want to argue, this was simply a recommendation from my part. You seem to have spent a lot of time into this game, and even if you don't realise now, you might want to show this movie long after you 'retired' and therefore in particular the naming can be a bit sensitive as it stands right now.

Also I can definitly see your point, then again many years from now the language will have changed and I think the word rape will be used in place of ownage in popular culture but that's just a personal prediction...
The child rapist thing in the title was part of Demiurge's nerd rage though who renamed the movie post. Had nothing to do with me.

The railing is realllllllllly dull imo, except the last fast onces in the end. Rockets and gl frags are nice though! Could have cut 6min of the everygame railing and you would have had a nice shot at short movie of the year(if there is something like that :D)

I agree with some earlier posters that the colors are a bit washed out and lack the contrast that give much-needed vibrance, which is only worsened by using forcemodels. (I have no idea why we need forcemodels in frag movies anyway, if we're just watching vids we can see what's going on)

The frags were pretty good, but it was mostly railing which gets stale fast. Once again, the movie uses just "competitive" maps and tournament footage. I'm really getting tired of movies just using the same maps for videos over and over again, I'd like to see some variety, you know? Surely there are vids of the "gentlemen" in action on underplayed / casual arenas which would contribute greatly to the originality. (In fact looking at the accounts I already found matches on maps like Skyward, Window Pain, Concrete Palace etc.)

The music was just terrible. I'd rather listen to someone scratch chalk on a chalkboard than listen to what was used here. Besides, it doesn't fit the "gentlemen" theme you got going.

At least there's no amazingly long opening.

Sorry, but it's just not that good imho. It has little to distinguish it from other movies and repeats most of the same mistakes, minus the intros. 5/10.

i am glad that most movies use forcemodels. we use them to play and we use them to stream, why the hell would we not use them in movies?

I, too, was irritated by the name of the movie. Maybe it's because of the official, "crystalized" form. Usually, in a gaming/quake context, rape gets used in a heated situation, there is competition, ego, and comparision of skills. It has a story to it and quickly vanishes. Here, your product comes out of a relatively long gathering and development process. There is no 'need' (blowing of steam, adding insult to injury, defending ones honor LIKE MEN, ...) to use this word. It's easy to suspect someone who uses it in a non-emotive state of being ignorant, sexist, or lacking in empathy. Thus it seems to me inappropriate. I guess if you'd send the file to some persons involved in esports or people familiar with frag movies (cs for example), you'd get some reactions. The name's definitely not neutral.

In my opinion it's fine if this word is used in a laughable/competitive environment between players. Hell, I've occasionally described games as "rape matches" on stream. I think the word is fine when used with such obvious implications in a casual environment.

Although to name something like this I think is really unintelligent, it really gives off the wrong impression to anyone who is looking at investing their own time playing this game (someone who may not be familiar with gaming/competitive terminology). You wouldn't name anything else with the word 'rape', so why should it be acceptable to name a frag movie like this. I'm not going to start a campaign for twister to change the title of the movie - because that is also retarded. I just think that he could have spared a few more moments to come up with a more witty/clever name. If I had never played Quake Live before and I came across this movie, I would very harshly judge the type of people who play this game.

You're more intelligent than this twister, if you want to promote esports with awesome frags and good action - then be more thoughtful about how you label your work.

Other than that - good fragmovie, 8/10

Let's be serious for a moment. If you're talking about advertising, you're talking about self-promotion for the movie's author among his peers, at best. There is zero possibility for this movie being a detrimental factor in QL's promotion because a) QL, as a desirable product for possible investment is about as desirable as a slice of long expired, rotting beef being sold as a cow, and b) no serious investor would consider the title of a fan-made, relatively niche movie posted on an unaffiliated website to be a relevant point while evaluating their investment's prospects and viability.

I'm not trolling, au contrare, i am being trolled by witnessing people making an issue out of this.

As a side note, i also have no clue why anyone would expect "professional" approach from an amateur player's frag movie. Bring up any imaginary boundaries you want, but this is ESR and we're talking about a QL movie, we're swimming in trolls while dealing with QL's staff repeatedly dropping it's misshapen progeny on the head for the past 2+ years. Pretending like "Gentle Rape" can make any sort of dent that would matter in this already burnt down wreck of a game and franchise is beyond my comprehension.

Also, really, rape is not such a bad word, and we ALL use the term colloquially as a metaphor for owning the opposition hard, EVEN ON THIS GOD DAMN SITE.

3) the video isn't just on esr, it's on own3d and youtube - and people who don't use the word obsessively will also see the film

I still don't know what the big deal is. I know why people might get offended by the title, but i still don't know why they're (you're) trying to attribute this to a picture larger than your personal feelings.

Well, the problem as I see is, that, should the unlikely case happen that you get called out for it in a non-gaming environment, you have a very difficult time defending/explaining the titel. Maybe it's because as a german I'm especially sensitive to this issue, because we had a lot of "Killerspiel-Debatten" (televised debates whether violent games, especially ego-shooters, should be banned). If a critical group digs something likes this out, your immediately framed. And how would you respond? Either you're an apologist or have to admit that there is some truth to the accusations. Now again, it is very unlikely, but low probability doesn't justify it, because the titel is unnecessary, as far as I can tell (satire, inside jokes, anything?).

Now, you're likely right that quake never gets big again (unless there is some serious improvement, redesign and support), but for people who see this in a bigger esport context, I see no problem why they shouldn't voice their concerns or try to explain why they are offended.

there are degrees of separation in terms of marketing and public relations. names, covers, everything that makes a first impression is of greater importance, they exist an entry way. inside, there can be other content that is understood in the greater context, but only if the person spends enough time, given he passed the entry point.
due to this, i want the front page to load in under 300ms (vs long threads can take 1 second), and i want major posts to be well formatted (non-major can be formatted any wat), and headlines to be innocent (vs post content that can be less innocent, vs comments that can be downright brutal).

Can't disagree with any of that tho it makes little sense to me to cover up the stinky insides with pretty packaging. Personally, i'd think some guy spamming shitty journals about nothing like Daniel or those other adolescent trolls are much more immediately detrimental to this site and it's image than a +-distasteful movie title posted on the front page, for example. If anything, it's indicative of the author not the site it's been posted on, especially if it's not really THAT hardcore a title. Then again i might be too cynical to see this thru the eyes of a neophyte.

I've been using the word in soccer and other various real life sports "damn dude we got raped today", imo this never originated from the interwebs. the term is frequently used for arguments when comparing which team would dominate others and there's no need to make a fuzz about it.

Is that supposed to be the main movie mentioned in the aerowalk-movie-thread? Well then..

pros:
+ not only rail (but still the first part is almost rail-only, gets better in second and third part)
+ not only twister (but still mostly, nametag at the bottom left changes not that often)
+ some nice frags, with flick- and pixel-rails, 99% lg and airrockets

cons:
- almost no editing. in the third part there are like 10seconds where the shots are synchronised with the music, but thats it. no cams, not effects, just a compilation of frags with music. when changing from second to third part, the music changes while the scene is still running - very bad move.
- still mostly rail-frags. next up are lg and airrockets. the air-rockets are quiet nice tbh. but almost no frags with any other weapon.

i'm not critizing about choice of music, it just depends to much on the personal taste.

imho: pretty average movie. still a long way to go to match with the great ones (shaolin productions, twillight pictures, etc), especially in terms of creative editing. but that whats separates the average from the great moviemakers.
