That's entirely subjective and an opinion of the gameplay. My original post however is objective and completely factual. The developers of this game have not put in the same time and effort as the developers of League of Legends. Kind of hard to believe you couldn't notice the stark difference between a 3 min typed post and that of a 20 minute well thought out edited video nonetheless their choice of medium since half the world frequents youtube. It's yet another examle of marketing/advertising failure on the part of the developers of this game.

WHY QUAKE LIVE > LOL

Much easier to figure out that it is complete and utter shit since Riot actually tries to come up with new things for their games unlike id. Not to much the netcode is better in LoL, making the setbacks of that game more discreet than QL's setbacks are. Thus, it is much easier to motivate oneself to go play something good. Therefore, QL > LoL in terms of finding a good gaming experience, albeit indirectly.

i think you missed the point...

LOL = communication + effort = concise, flashy, in-depth info on a website of millions of users, once every update.

QL = no communication + no effort = a 3 min post on a forum maybe 4 people read a day, once every 3-6 months.

in other words, the League of Legends devs did something right to get their game to where it is now in IEM tournaments.

LoL was made to be addictive, the developers encourage players to be proactive, lag is not a big issue so there's worldwide online competition, and the elo system (which is used for matchmaking) forces you to play at least once every 2 weeks.
It's also way easier to get a hold of the game, there's new content and game balance changes every 2 weeks, and you don't get as rusty as in QL.

on the other hand, the only thing that really changes in QL is sensitivity due to the sens bug or a random firefox update.
The only great things about the game is that it is accesible (browser plugin) and that you can play it for free, if you live in a location in which players don't pay directly to host the server.

also, ask yourself why league of legends has 10 million players. Is it because it's so unique (search epicwar.com for dota maps sometime) having developed from a myriad of games all using the same style derived from defense of the ancients...

..or is it maybe because the guys at LOL did everything right, including, most importantly, advertising the game to the masses? ....instead of to a few hundred people on a subforum hardly any frequents....

32 million accounts.

but it has nothing to do with it really. Riot games has been doing this even before the game was released, and a lot more than just a patch preview.
Imagine quake live getting substantial updates every 2 weeks, being present in every major event because its developers made it possible (which attend to every one of them), financing tournament seasons (this year with 5 million, not considering sponsors and tournament prizes), game casters and local minor and major online tournaments around the globe, allowing and encouraging streams (some people make more than $30,000 a month just on its advertising), offering discounts every week, and a lot more. In the end they listen to the community.

Think about the similarities between LoL and QL: more or less f2p, similar release dates, trying to make the game as accessible as possible.
QL had the upper hand by far and now LoL has 1000x more players. It just shows how id software screwed a huge opportunity.

LoL started as a dota clone developed by a new company, that no one wanted to play due to its childish graphics and simplified mechanics.
It took more than a year to reach QL's prime numbers, and now they are on a different level.

Quake Live had a great starting playerbase, reaching millions of accounts when it was released, a franchise and company's reputation, but they didn't support it at all and forbid the whole reason why previous quake games are great: community-made content.

it actually is, that's exactly the point; lack of effort on id's part. Again, how hard would it be to find someone, a tritin for example, who has begged, literally begged for id to hire him, to do the short preview update video like LOL has done. All sync and sponge have to do then is, provide the commentary. How hard is that?

it's not like they don't have at least 3 months to forecast to tritin what the video should be about so he can gather content...

There is nothing to suggest this, other than unfounded optimism. The gains would be marginal at any time, unless you're talking about bigger production value videos like TF2. Something like that would probably cost them an entire year of budget for the game, and I still doubt that it would matter. People aren't quitting the game because there aren't update videos, they're quitting the game because they don't like it.

you cant compare LoL and ql. When you want to look it this way you should take WoW vs ql. WoW got the biggest playerbase of all games, it got regulary BIG updates and its just great to get actually new content for your money.

Ql new maps (for prem/pro only ofc) updates... yay and how much of those maps are actually new and how much from q3? We are still waiting for features of q3(lan,gtv) and cpma... i guess they wont ever added. Its high likely we wont see any new content for the game (weblayout is not part of game content) but a lot of unwanted maps. YAY

it's not the type of content that is in discussion here but the methods used by either development team to get their point across.

While the League of Legends team gained 200,000 views on youtube with their video update preview, sync/sponge gained a couple hundred viewers with an archaic post on a forum that only a few check.

here's another example quote

SyncError doing match updates by hand on ESR. Seems pretty stone-ages-ish. #QuakeCon #QuakeLive #fail

they could as well make QL free2play

I played a few months ago so I can't really tell whether things have gone worse or better but I was able to find solo queue games even at 5 am in the morning.
The thing is that I always enjoyed 2v2 arena but in blc it's kinda boring and the only real deal is 3v3 which is without a doubt a lot of fun. I quit because of uni/time/quake and lack of a third player.
You should certainly give it a try if you enjoy pure arena without all the gear/lvling bullshit and rather quick games. I don't get it why only a few wow players have switched :(. Prolly not enough exposure for the new gear ...

I don't get it? Is getting ray disputed really so important that you can't even recognize if and when some does a bad or a good job in promoting their game and updates.

Main topic here is why they don't do something like that? Answers can be:
It's not original since LOL does it.
They can't since they are mute and can't do voice over medically :D
They didn't think about it!
They don't care even if something that needs and is a right thing to do.

As I've gathered citty you're pretty involved in quake. You care for the game ... you do maps for the game.

Now explain what is the harm in proposing to them something like this?

For instance Yellack said that they have a duel map in the ready. frs has a map ready. Since new updates include mostly new maps, why not ask some players to do some action runs, maybe some airrockets on them and then when released you have a youtube promotion, own3d promotion, twitch.tv promotion of the maps and update

I find that it's a matter of time, since you have people doing that for free, it's a matter of time and gathering materials before you do a release.

Disclaimers are singed and enforced to much of what goes around in quakelive.

He's not comparing the games but the developer's effort put into them. There are ways id could promote the game without putting money into it but it doesn't. The last time QL was mentioned on a mainstream site like Kotaku, in the comments people were wondering how come they never heard of the game.

And how about finally releasing The Edge? As I recall the FFA servers running it were always full and new players love it. The map was done a year ago, it just needs a few cosmetic changes.

LoL has a bigger playerbase than quake because the game is simple enough for kids and can be played from a crap laptop with crap internet... but in terms of depth, fun and skill, Quake >>>>>>>>>>>>> LoL any day.

LoL has a great marketing team nonetheless, even QuakeCon streams have no visibility on QL.com whereas LoL's front page is full of informations on tournaments etc... That's changing for the better with QLPrism/QLRanks, which are really nice, but ID is acting pants on head retarded and can suck my dick

Depth and skill is disputable, but fun? That's such a bullshit claim. Who are you to enforce your arbitrary judgement on how much fun can be derived from anything?

Yes of course, what I say is always my own opinion and I don't feel that I have to mention it in every sentence. I think a game, that is slow enough already, where practically nothing happens in the first 10-15 minutes of a 30-50mn round, and where a single person out of 10 usually spoils everything, is boring. It is only my opinion, but it is not a bullshit claim.

raythenoob, it's time to look into getting a job. You got banned from Quake Live. Life will continue. You've created walls and walls of text on here that frankly, no one gives a shit about. Whenever someone counters your pointless rants and you do not have a valid defense, you attack their character. Cool, so you have a personal vendetta against id/QL staff/"tier slummers." Nobody cares. Jesus christ, get a fucking life or at least go play one of these flavour-of-the-week games that you claim is better than QL (last week it was BF3, this week it's LoL).

I guess BF3 wasn't as good as you claimed last week. You're no different than anyone else who jumps from game to game, only you do it with the intention of trying to harm Quake Live. But guess what, absolutely no one is listening to your opinion. You're a butthurt crybaby who can't get over the fact that you got banned from an online video game. I suppose this is a case study of what happens when someone who lives to play a video game suddenly gets that game taken away from them.

I honestly hope that you're no older than a teenager. Because your actions...well, everyone sees how childish they are. But now I can see why no reputable organization would hire you -- management isn't fond of paranoid schizophrenics who have no real-life skills and spend all their time on a video game website (read by no more than 600 or 700 people). Just know that if you think that you're killing QL, you're not. People leave the game for reasons entirely unrelated to your childish rants and opinions.

YOU. WERE. BANNED. FROM. THE. GAME. GET. OVER. IT. ALREADY. AND. GET. A. NORMAL. SOCIAL. LIFE. THAT. WILL. ALLOW. YOU. TO. BECOME. A. FUNCTIONING. MEMBER. OF. THE. WORLD. OUTSIDE. OF. VIDEO. GAMES. AND. YOUR. COMPUTER.

Contact me if you would like help with this. I promise, it is not difficult at all

That has nothing to do with it and you know it. Go troll elsewhere. Can you prove to me id puts in the same amount of effort for their update previews?
