I would like ladders (as everyone eles) and I would really love if new maps were for everyone so it would be easier to find a public match on these new maps. New maps aren’t nice if you don't ever get the chance to play them. :(

Something that would be really cool is a GTV-like feature. Imagine when watching an event that you connected via Quake Live like if it was GTV, being able to change pov and just watch the game with your own resolution/HUD/etc. (item timers should be an option).
If the game is shoutcasted then the caster s voice should be a part of the game sound and you can now decide for yourself whether you want to hear the cast or not (a different volume cvar deciding the casting volume would be awesome!). At last you are able to select to change pov manually or just see the pov that the caster is seeing (like back in the days and like in UT2k4).

Beside these things and new maps just once a year I don’t need anything eles.

And for bug fixes I would love if ID fixed that minor lag you get when disconnecting from a server it is SO annoying! + When your opponent quits from a duel the scoreboard shows HIS stats and not yours. That'a annoying aswell.

It would be free to signup/play for prem/pro users, standard users would pay a small, one-time fee for that tourney (small enough to make it attractive, big enough to make it worthwhile for id). During the period of the tourney, standard users that signed up would have access to all prem/pro content on designated tourney servers. Would be nice to have it for all or at least a few gametypes and if possible, different skill levels so lower level people could compete and get into the game (in general) more.

- a way to challenge another player or clan. A clan leader/creator can challenge another leader/creator, or one user can challenge another via a button from their profile. Maybe even have a page on the site that shows all current or upcoming challenges so people could view matches they'd like to see.

- more USEFUL features in general that make things easier or at least more enjoyable integrated into the site. By that, things like a proper demo player, visual hud generator (very nice namad), gtv, streams, etc, etc.

- proper 1v1, 2v2 CA queue system.

- some of the options when spawning a server are nice. But the last I remember there's still nothing regarding initial hp/ar, falling damage on/off, armor damage on/off. Then again my other account keeps getting screwed with, so it's been a while since I viewed those options.

Those living in the northern parts of Scandinavia get pretty bad pings to mainland Europe and there are many Scandinavian teams and players that would benefit from this.

- Where necessary, rethink the premium/pro system. I don't dislike it, but it has some flaws. Freezetag and freezerail are great newbie gametypes, and are much appreciated by most casual players, but the majority of premium/pro players aren't interested and it's pretty dead in its current state. Just make it free. If you id guys want to further entice people to subscribe to premium/pro, keep adding content like you do but think about what you can add that would also benefit you on standard servers. Premium scoreboards for example is just a start.

- Advertise the damn game. The game has been alive only by word of mouth since the open beta launch, it needs a push.

- Much better built in demo watching tools, and while you're at it, add some more sophisticated movie making tools too. Free camming, wav dumping etc...

1. Increase maxfps to 500. 125 fps causes negative accel on fast movements, or it feels like that. I always overshot 180 flip turns switching from ql to quake with 500fps. 500 fps will make everything more responsive and it goes well with 500hz mouse. Flick shots are better with more fps. Also one can make full use off crt monitors, 35 hz increase is smoother (160hz instead off 125)

2. Greyscale simpleitems! it would be so nice. I hate all the colors in ql and the simpleitems are the worst , especially the green armor shards and railgun icon. The shapes are all different and if they are not, like the health icons, 50 health could be darker than 25 etc.

3. Enemymodels/skins without any textures, just hole model is all the same green color, a silhuett realy.

4. Enemymodels Without ANY animations, whole model is static, no walking or strafing with legs or other parts off the body moving. Will be a more truthful representation off the hitbox.

5. Double the armor value in tdm, ra gives 200 etc, and make quad do 4x damage in tdm again (and ctf maybe)


Pluss a bunch off other stuff, like, i realy hate the pummel, i always have this habit from other games to close up on enemy with some weapons (like shotgun to maximize damage) but then u always get hit with like 3X pummel hits. Also that damn weapon feels so fucking random. Plasma is shit too, sg do too much damage, and the bfg should never been in the game from the beginning.
Pummel must be one off the lamest weapon in all fps history. Why didnt they keep the axe from q1? At least one had to time the hit, it didnt do fucking 50 damage on the slightest touch.

one can cap it to 480fps to sync with 160hz and it will also sync with server framrate thats 40fps. If fps wasnt capped i would sett it to 320 or 480 fps. Now with 125fps it doesnt sync well with 40 server fps.

Why dont you play with 60 fps if you dont think it its important. Everyone set it to 125 fps for a reason, its the smoothest.

I don't understand how you can call it "fresh". The new movement has very little effect on the game strategically.

Judging from the duel map pool, imo the only nice thing that chain jumping did to the game was allow you to double jump to the PG on hektik. (And this isn't even used much) But if id just lowered that ledge a tiny bit you would be able to jump to it with the old movement to.

One annoyance I have is the way people exit teles now. Sometimes on t7 / furious heights when your waiting on the upper floor with RG to shoot someone after they exit the MH tele you miss because the second they appear they jump like 15 feet high, and you end up shooting a rail below their feet. If someone runs into a trap there should be a high probability that they will be punished for it. There is no way they should be able to jump over your crosshair, especially if they didn't even know you were there in the first place.

The new teleporter behavior can also cause problems with map geometry. On dm13 / lost world, if you chain jump out of the RA portal you will get stuck on the ceiling. If you crouch in mid air you can avoid this, but I would prefer being able to jump out smoothly without needing to dodge the ceiling every time, as it was with the old movement.

In some cases chain jumping can also make it easier to over jump things. On dm13 when you do the stair jump from plasma YA to the middle area, there is a slight increase in speed since you are jumping onto steps. Even on the older movement you could over jump this, so the increase in speed is definitely not a good idea.

As for the step height change, some jumps are to easy now, you can jump onto some things that you should not be able to, and the movement even looks / feels bugged when you are pulled onto a ledge after doing a jump that you would of missed with the old movement.

I support the general concept of quake live. Making the game more accessible, and providing skill matching and tutorials is a great way to help expand the games audience. But please id software, don't try to take away from the games learning curve to help new players. Many new players enjoy learning the various skills involved with quake, and the ones that don't are better off playing a different game.

i can't see how it lower the skill gap, more likely the opposite of they made/edit the maps whit CJ in mind.
i think this could add some more depth to movement which in my mind doesn't play a huge role anymore (except for in fight dodging ofc) and i just feel that Q3 players in general have always been afraid of some change.

Chain jumping doesn't effect the skill gap. I was talking about the step height change at the end of my post. Pretty much all chain jumping does, other than cause problems, is allow you to jump up steps faster. The movement speed and jump height while on a flat surface or going down steps is the same.

but overall i would rather have a faster movement system which allows for creative jumps while at the same time requiring you to actually have to work to get those jumps right, than a stagnant base vq3 movement system.

ps: this really shouldnt need to be said but i can give u a lot of examples of cases where chain jumps make gameplay more interesting as opposed to the bugs u pointed out. since u seem to only duel think of how much faster stairs are on ztn for instance, where u can chase a +backer through the stair tunnel near ya/rl to the gl with chain/ramp jumps or on dm13 near pg/shards where u can make a chain of 3 jumps to the 50 bubble.

the one other note i would make tho is that altho ramp jumps are now possible nobody so far as ive seen has used it in any games, mostly because of the buggy interaction between ramp jumps and chain jumps on stairs which results in ridiculous velocity gain on stairs with double jumps. i seriously wish id would either fix this or remove ramp jump or come with some sort of rampjump scale value so we can standardize the physics and move on. having uncertainty about a basic game element such as movement is unacceptable. its stupid to design maps and then have elements of the map design break because of physics changes later on.

It's because of the step height change. Step height used to be set to 18, now it's at 22. The higher the step height the easier jumps, and the higher the pull. The lower the step height the more difficult the jumps, and the lower the pull. You can load a practice game, and experiment with the pmove_stepheight command.

I'm guessing cpma vq3 uses step height 18 (which is one thing I listed in my post) since as far as I know that was originally the default in quake live.

Okay, I forgot about the ramp jump setting. Ramp jumping is off by default though, and I have yet to play on a single server that has it on.

and no it isnt step height, its hard to explain, but it has to do with when the game detects an edge while ur in vertical motion and what it does with that info. ql somehow artificially pops u up above the ledge, so theres a slight delay when u hit the edge and then ur above it. its very similar to corner hugging. cpma is very different, its smooth, theres no freezing and then hitching up to a different height.

change stepheight in a local game and paly around with it and ull see what i mean.

Yeah, I'd really love to see most all these things implemented. And like to think they would bring people in and help keep people around. But to be honest, the majority of these features should've been in the game a year or even longer ago. Or at the very least development starting on them. At this point, if any of these larger features are implemented, it'll probably be months if not longer before the kinks and whatnot are worked out. So I ain't holding my breath for any of this stuff.

I don't know, like I said in another thread, it seems like the people working on this have no direction at all. They admit there's ongoing problem(s) with the netcode or they're not satisfied with it, what do they do? Give us chain/double jumps and some other physics tweaks. My beef with the physics changes is they haven't really done anything as far as advancing gameplay.

Yeah, I've seen the 1 or 2 vids out with these nifty jumps on various maps. But based on what I've seen playing daily and the tourneys I've watched, nothing has changed for the most part. So they spent that time doing stuff with the physics when it could've been put towards something else that would have hopefully an (positive) impact on the game. And this instance isn't the only time it's happened.

Then again, it might not seem so random if they threw a little info our way on a consistent basis.

Before ql the quake community was completely dead and only a handful of players still tried to play quake (q3 vq3 and cpm, and some q2 players which was more active). With the start of ql though, some of the old players re-emerged and surprisingly newbies emerged too. it is small compared to gernany, sweden, or russia of course.

The problem is that none of these players have a "home", there are no turkish community websites anymore and because there are no turkish servers everybody is scattered around. I usually spot alot of unknown new players playing ca/ffa whatever after I see their flag in the match reports (80% of the time they really ARE turkish too, they speak the language when talked to and their ping match)

anyways long story short, currently there are alot more new turkish players but they are scattered around. I have no way of saying exactly how much because of this but I THINK they would warrant a server, especially considering we have chinese servers etc that are most of the time completely empty.

Something similar to Invasion from UT would actually breathe some life into this game. All the currently included gametypes fucking suck, duel included.

They'd have to create some new bots/maps (Outside and aliens and that) for it to work properly, but that would be awesome.

Hello?! Are you all in the wrong movie??? The MG as it is right now is too weak and as a starter weapon you should be equipped with something to defend yourself upon respawn. And MG also isn't the finisher it used to be, now you just switch to SG and it will do the trick for you.

Also in FFA you have to defend yourself off the start, with your starterweapon, namely MG. And you need to do so until you get hold of one of the pickupweapons.

So, if everyone starts/respawns with MG, than there will be alot of people running around with this weapon of course. What so curious about it? And for TDM it's almost the same, with players not being able to grab themselves a pickupweapon, because of lacking skill or the increased weapon respawn time.

you spawn with what, 50 ammo, even with q3's 5 damage per bullet, thats only 250 damage... fresh spawners have 120 health as it is...

this means you need to be hitting best part of 40% mg with full ammo to kill anyone with even 100 health... yeh its more than achievable but hardly an easy feat considering the spread, and general aim required.

imho it should be impossible to begin with, even 2 spawners shouldnt be able to kill someone with a stack

i suggest that its about right as is, normally you managed to kill a player 1v1 in a mg fight (think first spawns on a game) with a few bullets to spare..

half the maps from experience, its not uncommon for at least a few players to have not picked up a weapon off spawns, so you end up with a couple of peeps, with 2 bullets in the mg trying to gauntlet each other at quad : x

Why should id restore the old hitboxes again? This has been their solution for the "hitboxes limping behind", so you could hit around walls. This was way easier for them than fixing there rubbish netcode.

But it's more than clear to me, that it's a fact. QL had an issue with the hitboxes and without coming up with another solution, they just reduced the hitboxes and nothing else has been done about that issue since then.

I mean seriously, trying to solve a problem with a lagging hitbox by making it cylindrical would be simply moronic. It would still lag, and when the view is parallel to the mapping directions, would have the exact same effect.

They may reward good dodging but at a good level they actually only reward completely crazy aimers. Good aimers will hit ( off the top of my head ) 5-6% less than on old hitboxes while crazy bots will hit 2% less.
Old hitboxes would scale this a bit, and would be balanced with 7dmg lg.

I can do the plasma climb on ZTN if my opponent gives me 7 attempts (avg.) at it. I'm so inconsistent at the fucker, that in a situation where I have no rockets but have plasma and time to climb, I'm more likely to grenade jump then attempt to plasma climb it :[

What QL needs...

1. Bring back Q3's RL. Rockets are way too fast in QL, removing prediction skill and making it a dream for +back style. It's the #1 reason that +back dominates in QL. RL should be a real 'close-range' weapon like it was in Q3.

2. Bring back Q3's MG (for duels). The MG is way too weak for duels in QL (first the lowered damage, then thin hitboxes so it got even weaker). You can have a weaker MG for TDM'ers, but give back Q3's MG for duel!

- When watching streams, you sometimes can get confused who you're following atm, since the enemy models are always green, no matter what POV. Why not implementing two enemy colours, as it's the case with Warsow. So one player is always white and the other one always green. (I can imagine a menu point for "Enemy 1/Team 1 - Colour: xxx" and "Enemy 2/Team 2 - Colour: yyy".)

- Freezetag is a lot of fun to play for me already. But apart from minor features I would add and tweak, what annoys me the most is the fact, that you can't spectate your team mates when you're down. I think intentionally it was thought of as a more realistic and fair method, like in CS: When you're dead – you're dead. But sometimes it's taking the fun off the game for me, when I have to sit and wait in my chilly corner, watching nothing but my team mates icons through the wall and listening to the sounds.

- The already mentioned ladders would be really cool for duel players. So that's the feature I would like to see as well.

- Also the "What's next?"-section on the site, informing us about the upcoming/on air live streams would be kick ass, even tho it would require more administration by id software/moderators. Better yet: Give trusted guys like lvl, Lo3 and such a special privilege to add and edit streams.

- How about adding visual damage points feedback for spectators? Like it's the case in many RPGs and MMOs. I can't think of a good way adding that feature without dishonest people using it to their advance (like, having a mate in Teamspeak and spectating the game). Apart from the potential misuse I like the idea.

Perhaps an adjustable Damage In Last x seconds, defaulting to 2 seconds? If set to more than 2 seconds perhaps differentiating by weapon.

Also, % hits in last x seconds so you could see the accuracy over the last skirmish.

An Enemy Overlay showing health, armour, wepon stack and last 2 items picked up.

Damage during the last few seconds and use two numbers : one above the ennemy for the last damage being dealt, and next to it, a + and the new damage.
Like, first rocket 80, second +30 and if there's a third one 110 + whatever.
for lg you'd just add up on the first number without caring about the + unless there are different bursts of lg or a combo ( not just a single burst of lg that would hit then miss then hit ).

1, LADDER SYSTEM!!! (see sc2). for 99% of the players its obvious they never will never have a chance in international tournaments, but this does not have to mean they sentenced to play the game uncompetitively. implement ladders with ELO system and tiers and give a reason to practice and come back to play one more match.

2, BEGINNER SERVERS. make servers where ppl unable to join with an older than 2-3 months account and also get kicked if their aim reaches like 30%. this way they will be able to enjoy the game while learning it not just get horribly owned at the first few occasions and uninstall it. (prime example is my friend who played exactly 10 mins on a vanilla account without any cfg in a tdm game before he stated the game is annoying and fucks him up rather than entertaining him, had a 0/30 frag difference and uninstalled)

3, DEMOVIEWER. its not the fucking stone age anymore, make it like a media player or something. me, who knows how to do it easily still not viewing demos because its a fucking pain. now imagine ppl who have no idea how to make a demo watchable.

4, MICROPAYMENTS. i dont care about all the shit advantages of having a premium/pro account, but id rather pay to play on 2-3 maps. why cant i just buy these maps separatedly for a one time fee? let me just buy each map for 2$ and allow my account to play on them instead of provide a lot more stuff for a monthly fee what i dont need.

5, SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY. it doesnt take much effort to get someone running a news section where developers congratulates to recent tournament winners, makes the casual player informed about upcoming events, providing links about where to watch streams, some fan stuff also for those who need it (like downloadable wallpapers, etc).

I remember id said they'd implement paypal in a more widespreed manner after qcon '10.... still waiting....

Some players are willing to buy but don't have the option to do so, why would anyone want to cut down their potential customers, as far as my knowledge goes, from a supplier point of view, your endeavour is to reach the highest amount of customers, I'm bedazzled by the fact that id is taking 5 months to take care of a simple, minor thing like PayPal.

Every extra payment system costs some money, potentially for each country. Since most people have credit cards, adding wierd assed payment methods like SMS so that 4 people can chose to pay with it instead of their credit card seems like a waste of money.

in no specific order

1. fix the netcode. i can go into a server with 10 ping and occasionally score hits on people that are so far around corners that they are in the next room already.

2. the sound is so broken sometimes it's ridiculous. yo whatup mysteriously silent bouncepads and dropped sounds if a couple people lg at the same time.

3. the payment system is moronic. i'll take monthly and buy it in a year bulk for the discount if i want it thanks.

It would be cool if you have stats, to have them at least synced and more insightful, more options to see what is going on with your game in data not just the feel you have.

For instance:
You want to compare periods of your play, because you've beeen praccying a lot with certain weapons. Or maybe tried to get you net more positive.

You could then do a chart compare a set of games with opponents average difficulty (skill level) and base your findings on that. Comapring their accuracy and yours in a match you guys played.

actually keeping stats for the whole duration of each account is retarted. It should be for the last say 100 games or so.

Also change leader boards from the hall of shame that it is now to something honourable. I mean if I ever see myself on the 1st page of the leader board, I will uninstall the game. Fortunately, it has many ppl that play 24/7 no matter what we say about small community.

They could also add filters for country etc. in the "leader board" and the friend search function.

There is a country filter in the leaderboard ... try customize button.

The duration is irrelevant the data changes for as long as you play.
Options that should be avail are:
Saving stats loading stats from file
Making match comparisons against other players and against averages of those players and yourself.
Making match comparisons over time against your average etc.

That way you could see weekly progress and fall in form against your average. What makes this possible is skill matching and repetition of maps that are played on pubs and in competitions. For instance you could compare how you played those 4-5 maps that are cycled with pretty much same people on your skill rating with randoms crashing the game this week and two weeks before or two months ago if you load that month.
From that data you can gather that you did above your average by a margin of 15 and 20 percent per week and you lost against opponents that are something like 10 percent below their average in that game, or maybe you won with your below avg vs their above average game.

This sound a little stats crazed but when you look at it really we have stats in a useless form, this would provide something meaningful to do with them, provides coverage depth for casting when you can prepare with stats from players in the game and also provides a reference point you go from and to when you play for an extended period of time.

all u ask is good and u could ask 1000 more such nice things, but is way too much for them. They can't implement even the simplest things. Charts? ... r u serious? (let them first add some simple filters and then we can dream for that)

Changing the period that they keep the stats is very simple and it will give you and indication of your progress. Like it is now, if you have pld a lot, in order to see something change in ur stats, you might need a month or more.

Actually, there so many things they could do and a lot of ppl have great ideas. QL could had been the best game ever, but they don't try. Great initiative to make q3 in a browser, great start (the site and the way u search for a game looks great), but they didn't follow through. They should. It still has a huge potential imo.

Optimist, pessimist issue here really ...

The point is to make people aware of the potential by suggesting stuff in various communities, that way the potential given time should develop.

If you take the pessimistic line here, they are gonna quit developing this game in half a year so we shouldn't propose anything here :)

Serverside demos of top games and on the QL site you can look at a list of recommended games and view them with a click.

Demos are great for newbs as well, it may even get them into TDM/CTF

Yeah, that would be good for recruiting players in clans. You could scout his performance on a regular basis and see if you'd call him up for a test game.

the very first problem is the server-sided demo recording, which we'v been asking since the closed beta, and they didn't even provided a sort of easy way to see a demo directly from the website
so I don't expect to see it in the near future

Because in terms of implementation, demos are just recording your network stream, which for performance reasons do not include updates of entities out of your visibility area.

Defrag in QL would be cool, but I doubt they would even come close to implimenting the system that q3df.org has.

also would need a steady flow of defrag maps to satisfy the hardcore jumpers at least 1-2 maps a day.

- better demo playback (including the ability to pause and rewind)

To be able to restart from a particular time in the game...

ie, if there's a disconnect and players are all back on the server, the server admin can "load" the last game being played on that server at a particular point with the game paused. Players would be put in the place that they were at that particular time ready for the server admin to unpause.

This would be mainly for use in competition, but I can't see why a pro subscriber couldn't do it either.

1. New/ better/ or old netcode. I'm not fussy cpma and osp both had better netcode in my book. Either one of these would be a good place to start!

2. Get rid of premium/ pro content and have a low cost subscription for all players. ie less/ around a pound/euro/dollar per month.
Then introduce a free trial period which can be gifted to players by paying customers and lasts about 14 hours, similar to Starcraft 2. (Which is a good system!) But you should need a code to get it so that cheap people don't just create lots of accounts

3. More quality ctf maps. Beg, steal or borrow them! I won't comment on duel maps because i'm useless at it and don't no whether duellers care about new maps or not.

4. Improve the chat feature. I quite like talking to people on my friends list but its hardly a feature at the moment and you can't have multiple user chats. If they need inspiration, look at steam. It does look ugly but it is very functional!

5. If ID are going to charge a subscription fee, then they need to deliver some value for it. There should be regular improvements otherwise they should offer refunds to paying customers.

id should be investing all their efforts into making time travel possible; so they can go back and not hire the first project leader cause he did a horrendous job (not exactly sure when he was let go). The whole project has been a fumbled mess with no clear plan or strategy for over 2 years now.

Oh and the whole going open public with no private server structure in place really made sure this thing will never fly. Any potential new playerbase has already seen what ql is (dead/a mess) and moved on or back to their old games. The damage was unrepairable, get working on that time travel machine guys! D:

5. New animations for rockettrails, grenadetrails, maybe new weapon/item models alltogether. And yes, this is a serious request... anything to attract new players, even though that means replacing cool looking 12 year old animations with new cool looking animations.

I have to admit I was a bit disappointed when I played QL for the first time. I thought the game would have gotten a reskin, and maybe that would have been enough to make the game feel a bit more new. I would love to see new weapon models with high-res skins.
