I am terrible on both maps so my opinion might be void, but disregarding that I really don't like how they play in duel. For what it's worth it's even boring to spectate "pro's" on them, at least on tourney6 (haven't watched much tourney7 yet to be fair).

tourney6 is pro-q3tourney7 which is a great 2on2 map (we in europe play that map alot in 2v2 tournaments) i have not tried tourney7(ql) in 2v2 might be a option

They did alot of changes on t6 with the spawnplaces. It's harder to spawnfrag now, but the sound is totally fucked. Fixx the sound and it's actually a OK map. Even tho it's a really railheavy map.

The mappool is not good atm, but it needs maps with different playingstyles, and t6 is the only map where rail is the mainweapon(except for maybe t4, but a good t4 player can do alot without the rail).

t6 is railheavy map, and you can hear everything in the map from 1 side to the other side, which is really lol . if they change it abit then perhaps we can play it, and the best players always win the map totally bs, ive seen many good player beeing crushed only cause of unlucky spawn, and heavy railing which made it impossible to get close to the enemy or even get to the railgun.

I agree, I find t6 frustrating to play because evenually it devolves in an all rail bullshit fest. Much the same way as t4 does usually. This is before I even mention the fucked sound.

t7 is an excellent map in my opinion, and it's not that big at all, it's smaller than dm6 by my reckoning. The verticality of it is something I really like aswell and not enough maps in ql have this aspect to them.

I agree, t6/t7 are both suited for 2v2 more so than 1v1...They are bad duel maps. I liked t7 at first but after playing it a lot against good players I realized how trash the map actually is. IMO t4 is the most balanced map in QL atm, and provides for the most entertaining games given two good t4 players. DM6 is just bleh and dm13 is even worse. In conclusion, all the maps are fucking BAD, we need a mapping contest :(

I like watching t6 demos, even if I'm not good at it.
From spectator point of view, t6 and t7 matches reminds me a bit of quake4 matches, pretty fast action, a lot of running included and many items to pick up. At least there is no mega close to RA, two strafejumps away, lol.

I like playing both tourney6 and tourney7.

I like it because they're new and it's refreshing to play something different. But I still think that they're really bad maps and that I'd enjoy even more playing on new maps that are good ;x

T6 is big, has global sounds and is rail heavy. But so was a little map called the Edge. I'd agree with spartie that the best player usually wins in T6. More of an aim shootout than T4, more uneven than dm6? LOL. Plenty of strategy in the map still. Quite more so than old trite Dm6. Quakelive is full of retards that only know dm6 and refuse to play anything else. It's cancer.
Fortunately nobody likes T7. It's practically never played.

t7 it is definitely not a good map for duel.
2 floor vertical design works only for small maps like hub3, t7 is way too big and too slow, also the ra room design is poor, pillars placement is bad, same for rail room. the only quite good room in that map is the mega room but not enough to make it a good map.
t6 is good for 2v2, but due the missing of private servers it's impossible to set up 2v2 matches so the map it's pretty useless now.
dm6 is more "unbreakable control" style map than it was in q3 due the overall weapons nerfing, you have to hit 5 rail in a row in order to take down a player controlling the map.
i like the new items and healts placements in dm13, but it needs larger doors.
t4 seems good until now.

ql certainly needs new good duel maps (and maybe even adding ztn and hub3)

Dm6 isn't as much "unbreakable control" as it was in q3. Note that due to the weapon nerfing, it is not only harder to get the control back, but it is also easier to set up a defensive position. The thing is that we should anticipate 15 minute duels, which would make dm6 much better and you wouldn't rush so much with getting back into the game as soon as possible.

Well on maps like dm6/t6 where it can easily take 6-7 min to break control you are screwed without timelimit 15 since the guy with the first 6-7 min can just +b the rest of the game and win. On t4/dm13 I think tl 10 works fine, even though I wouldnt mind tl 15.

I agree with azmo on the 10 vs 15 mins duels. Dm6 might be the best 1v1 map in QL but 10 minute duels are really spoiling the pleasure of playing it. It takes time to break control there and score some points, mostly due to it's size. So, 15 minute duels would make it an ideal.

Now the other maps in QL may be bad, but come on. The fact it can take forever just to get slightly back into a game on dm6 shows how poor the map really is for duel.

Why stop at 15? why not just have it set to 20minutes so it's the same as CTF/TDM?

I hate T6 duels with a passion, its so incredibly boring to play and watch, I guess its good to have it around until 2on2 becomes an option, but right now its just the worst fucking map I know. Sure the best player will win if its a significant difference in skill, but if its two equals its often only down to starting spawn who wins. I dont even mind more old q3 maps coming back as long as this one goes out the window.

I dont think T7 is as terribad as everyone says, I made some threads on the ql forum about how lame it is to die at MH and spawn with SG/RA/YA/RG but thats not by far as bad as T6 is. Other than that I think the map is pretty fun, gotta have the patience to play defensive on it though, if not its pretty unplayable ;)

T4 is great, better player on it wins pretty much every time, thats why I have so much problem against a1r on it...

I dont know if nodm9 really is 10 times better than dm13, personally Ive come to like the changes too, even though I like the old layout too. I think PG is a nice addition but I think the map would benefit from a 7 dmg LG. The one thing I dont really like about it is that LG room got 75 hp 50 armor and LG, go in low come out stacked... Great map though, also a "better player wins" map, a misfortune or two can be remedied, unlike dm6/t6.

What we really need though is new or old TDM maps, ospdm5/6 and cpm4 cant come soon enough, havent tried the new dm7 layout but my guess is that that map still needs to be buried beneath a mountain or two, preferably chopped up to a million pieces and stomped on, with T6 watching knowing it will be next...

The lack of good maps is the main reason why I play ql only very rarely - and I don't see an improvement coming. There seems to be only one person who creates new maps (meothod) and honestly I think he is not the most gifted mapper out there. I am really wondering why they don't try to support map makers from the community...

QZca2 plays kinda similarly to t7 with good players playing, I've played a few games against good players on it and watched them play, it seems to be pretty balanced in terms of controlling, and the player not in control can hide/pick up ya's pretty safely. I still really don't like the map for 1v1 tho, i could see it possibly being a great 2v2 map

Aside from the fact that there is an obvious sound issue, I think Tourney6 is a pretty good map and it seems like I'm the only person that enjoys playing it. It doesn't have to be played as an "all rail" map if you don't want to. Infact it's fairly easy to avoid rail battles and use rockets or lightning instead.

Tourney7 is ok, but at times it's very frustrating to play because it seems rather easy for your opponent to create a lockdown situation if he gains control of the RA and YA areas. It's definitely raged me a few times.

I'd also like to note that I've seen Tourney9 played a few times, and I hate this map with a passion, it severely lacks the depth which a good duel map requires.

I think CA2 should be played in some competitions, as it seems that would be a fun map to play. I know _2's NAQL tournament is using it for Cup 8.

T6 -> worst map

T7 -> dunno, probably the only good map of the pool :D

T13 -> too tight, the rest seems pretty nice

T4 -> the only well balanced map, works fine overall, but boring gameplay cuz it's 10 yo map

dm6 -> good 'flow', good esthetic, but spawns suck and it's almost impossible to regain control, also with these weapon settings, it's all rail/run/waitpixelrail/run/back/roxspam/pixelrail/run/rail/back/spawnrail/back/roxspam since the shaft is weak & plasma feels weird with this netcode @ 60ms+. With better weapon settings, better netcode, better spawns/spawns-system and maybe a 2nd YA instead of the AS, dunno, it could finally be a good "fresh" 10 yo dm6. Actually it's pretty lame & random.

From my experience of t6 playing/watching here are my opinions

1. It takes more patience than any other map in the pool when you are not in control.
2. it's actually less rail heavy than t4 as vicarious said but unlike t4 where you can deliver planned damage without rail by good rockets and sg blasts, t6 has less scope of that if your opponent knows what he is doing. So the difference of having a rail and not having one is huge.
3. All corners/bends suck in ql physics and huge rocket splash.
4. sounds bugged
5. less combat more action from distance, rocket spam, rail etc

Not having played any quake besides a bit of q3a when it came out, but having played a fair bit of DM6 coming from UT (it was a fairly played duel/tdm map in ut2k3, but removed from 1o1 in 2004 iirc):

-T6 is good. Sound is indeed fucked up and needs to be fixed but i find the map interesting to play.
-T7 is okay. Find it too big but i can deal with it. And as said above those big rooms are poorly designed with too much pillars and stuff...
-T4 is fun but very unfriendly to newbies, this map is pure rape when you play the guys who"ve played it for years now. But still good map, improves your overall duel game alot practising this map.
-DM6 still plays best imho. Ofc its overplayed but i don"t care since i"m new (and i even found it the best duel/tdm map in UT, pitty they removed it). But its the most interesting, except maybe some funny spawns sometimes...
-DM13 is just pure shit. No flow, nothing but spamming small corridors, annoying item placement. Maybe with better movement it can get interesting but its really the map i hate the most atm and i really cba to prac it.

I personally think that the middle bridge from the SG to the RL ammo should be deleted completely + the LG platform should be bended (?), or just a bit closer to the highest YA. This would definitely make t6 a less rail heavy map, as there would be no RG abusing when fighing for the YA's (except the top one, but that would be fine with the other two being more closed). Additionally, maybe you could close off the +25hp corridor from one of the lower YA's to the other, just not to make the guy at the top YA easily block you from passing with no passage from the RL ammo to SG to the other YA.

I'd really like to see something like a map contest for a t6 remake, I'd surely take part in it. I think that in some note on the devs blog someone said that user content would be added on the basis of open contests.

T6 is shit indeed, way to easy to hit those rails during control. Dunno, probably it's best to replace the rail with the chaingun or something.

What I personally dislike about T7 is the fact that it plays really unsmooth. I mean, it's difficult to move from A to B without getting stopped by some stupid obstacle like water, stairs and the like. I liked the early version of T7 more (without the entire railroom and rail at all). Pretty mich reminded me at Phrantic in Quake4.

DM6 and T4 seem pretty balanced, especially since the RL and SG becamse so powerful.
