play on non pb servers? pb sucks anyway.

Unless you can get punkbuster installed (*shivers) then you're screwed on servers that require pb. I would try to contact punkbuster to see if there's a solution to your problem. I have a hard time believing you're the only loser that wants to play on a Mac.

Well, tbh, I don't play on my mac, just watch demos. But I do spectate games from time to time.

I kinda figured there were other losers that attempt to play on Macs.

That and typical Mac users are blind sheep that see Steve Jobs as the next Jesus Christ and his software as a shiny gift from God. They simply don't realize the reason why Macs don't "seem" to crash as often is because 1. Who is going to waste their time writing viruses and spyware for Macs? and 2. Why would you even try to use 3rd party software on a Mac?

I'm not a mac fanboy, it is my first mac.
Also it is very likely my next computer in some years,
will again be a pc either with linux or windows.
But tbh, there is really nothing to complain on the mac except the prices and the product politics of apple (for example upgrading ram costs about 100 $ only for changing the rams for my mac mini, that is why I did it myself, it's not a normal pc, so you have to fiddle around a bit, but if you are experienced it shouldn't be too much of a problem, but now I don't know if I have voided the warranty). Also what I didn't like is that they gave out boot camp beta for free before, now you have to upgrade to the new leopard to be able to use it. So after all mac = same as ms. But the system really runs fine and is comfortable to use ...

I'm sure it does run fine. I'm not really disputing that. My biggest issue with Macs is the fact that Apple just has to be so different and proprietary with almost every piece of hardware. I jumped for joy when I heard they were moving to the x86 platform. Now that Macs are becoming more and more like PCs and they're starting to get more market share I've actually toyed with the fact at getting a Mac of some sort just to I can keep up and attempt to support it. The only real lacking thing with Macs right now is still their ability to run 3rd party apps and the support for them. Perhaps over time that will change, but in the mean time, it's a giant pain in the ass.

You gave yourself the answer, so I dont really know what more you want... The only way to get punkbuster to work is to use the official version. You can download the official mac binaries here: ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake3/mac/

Note that since Q3 pre-dates intel CPU macs you're gunna be running a non-native binary if you have a modern mac, so there are bound to be issues. Thats the advantage ioq3 etc have, so you have to make a choice - modern binary, or pb.
