I don't know much about ET, but its immature of itself to whine about things like spawn camping and other 'lame' tactics which wether you like them or not are just as much part of the game.

You can't expect teamplay on public servers, join a team if thats what you want.

ET may have a higher "CS-like asshole" rate than Q3, but there's plenty of them on Q3 servers too.

Clans are a Good Thing.
Many are about having fun with a good group of people rather than a good group of PLAYERS who are worthless human beings. Some are predominantly or even exclusively for older players: OtH (Over the Hill :P) springs to mind. Find one of those and you're set. :)
On top of the other benefits, such clans usually run their own servers, which attract other players like them, meaning that even if everyone else on the server is "pub" you still end up playing with better people (in the social sense). And when you DO get a random shitbag on there, you can just ban them. :)

Q3 community is small compared to ET.
The truth is, more players play the game, more chances to encounter an assholes. They are everywhere, only difference is larger or smaller amounts of them.

Get in some clan, then you will have chance playing game in competitions, against other teams. It's much more fun, than pubbing, also you may find nice teammates, and again have a lot of fun playing with them. Fun, fun, fun fun.
Even if your skill is low, it's not a problem, there are 10000000 teams of low skilled players who play for fun and enjoy game.

ignore all the people and concentrate on your game.. thats where its at... enjoy all the kills you gain... the more you kill the more they probably get wound up... dont let them fuck your game up basically

You just need to find the right community. I'm sure there's plenty of people like you that want to enjoy a game with good teamplay and players that have fun with each other. Therefore they must have gone somewhere to avoid the same thing you dislike about public games.

Like in dota, if you play pub you can pretty much expect lame behaviour, abuse, creep skipping and leavers. You can go one step up to pickup irc channels to find slightly less lame behaviour and less leavers. Then there are invite channels where people are generally pretty nice to each other and hardly ever leave games. And above that there are ranked games or clanwars where everyone takes it seriously.

Yeah, what the fuck happens with the people who play DotA? I have been playing for two months and I can say it has the most retarded community of any games by far. I have seen people being insulted for being noobs in noob games (marked clearly as newb games in the title). People insulting when someone asks for an item recommendation (OMG NOOB YOU CAN'T ASK).

Oh, and what about leavers. I only get to play one or two really good/interesting games per week, because there are leavers in every game, afkers, or people that get pissed and start feeding the opponents just so the game ends quicker.

Also the memorable -repick, -repick, quit (WHY THE FUCK DO YOU JOIN AREM THEN). The good ol' "OMG 4v1 YOU NOOBS, QUIT". And the people banning me for what they call "backdooring". If the creator of the mod didn't want me to kill towers by myself he would add something to prevent towers from getting damage when there are no nearby creeps.

And I have played CS. Spanish CS. I though it couldn't get worse, but DotA is way, way worse.

I would already have given up on playing it if it wasn't because I have some friends who play it once or twice a week and sometimes we even get to play 5v5 among ourselves, but I don't have motivation enough to use that shitty W3 interface to find a game full of east Europe kiddies who think the amount of times they say the word noob is proportional to their pr0 skills.

I heard about pickups like #dotapickup.euro (a friend of mine is pretty active there), but I'm still not good enough to join them, so my only option is to play with friend or join that hell of the pub games.

You don't really need to be at a certain skill level to play in #dotapickup.euro, but I've seen that people aren't very welcoming to newer players (which sucks).

I'd suggest to get on vent with a friend who has more experience at dota and to lane with them, to improve quickly. If you play ultra defensive then you're not likely to mess up your team's chances for a few games while learning.

Really what dota needs is a better organised pickup system where people can choose games by skill level as well as making a history for themselves - either as good players or as ones that are abusive/leave. Then you know who you're potentially playing with and there are actual repurcussions to acting like a prat.

What I did when I started joining normal games (instead of newb ones) was to always get a dagger of escape, so I died less and I didn't feed the other team.

I have been reading dotapickup rules and I can't understand them. Why am I not allowed to attack a tower without creeps? Why am I not allowed to transfer items to a friend so he can level up faster or get a chance against more powerful heroes? I don't usually skip creeps, but I do share items with my friends when one of us is underleveled or is having a hard time against a particular hero. It's teamplay after all.

Both sound like lame player made up rules to me. It's like saying you can't do trickjumps or drop weapons in Quake when the game allows it. Or camping in CS. Or spawnkilling in Wolf.

What DotA needs is a proper interface for creating/ finding / filtering games, along with profiles full of information and ignore/ban lists. They could use the level system from W3 so you could filter games by mode and by level range.

You aren't old enough, specially if you play more adult games like ET (even if it has gotten full of kiddies lately).

About spawnkilling... it's part of the game. I enjoy it and so does many people, probably more than the ones who hate it, so your only option is to join a server where they forbid it, although I found "no spawnkilling" servers to be full of lamers who didn't like anything that killed them, but thought panzering people one by one was the ultimate skill. Anyways, looks like you want to find a server with a bunch of regulars to just play and have a good time. I haven't played ET for some time, but iirc SNL servers were pretty good (http://www.snl-clan.com/forum/servers.php). Usually those with "community" in the name are the ones who put custom maps and take care of the regular players.

The other option is to get used to it, start enjoying the game as it is and join servers like BiO where you will find though competition. You can ignore the talking.

And if you don't find it in ET, DoD is full of that kind of servers, at least here in Spain. I don't like the game, but the community of pub players is really good.

The l33t kiddies see a rule and of course it has to be disobeyed ..

If anyone dares to point out that spawn killing is not allowed you get the usual 'whiner' , 'lamer' ... usually ends in me leaving the server ..

Having said all that there have been some excellent severs in the past where teams are balances and people swap sides to ensure they remain so. Any iditotic behaviour is often dealt with quickly by the regulars ...

Yep, I like spawnkilling but I obviously do not spawnkill in servers where it's forbidden :P Like I said what you need to find is a good community with a bunch of admins and regulars.

Have you tried sorting by ETPub mod? ETPub is made with public servers in mind (as opposed to ETPro) and you are more likely to find that kind of servers.

DotA (defense or the ancients) is a Warcraft III map/mod with two teams of 5 where you control only one hero (there are tons to pick from). Units spawn for both teams and move along three paths with defensive towers. You get money to buy items and exp for killing creeps and heroes and the ultimate goal is to destroy enemy's base.

The game is really fun, but the community is the worst of the worst, you can't possibly imagine how full of 1337 kiddies it is.
