Dimensions: 29 cm x 22 cm x 0.65 cm
Surface: Hard plastic
Shortly after last year’s presentation of the long awaited FPS game, Doom 3, a market of computer peripherals was introduced with several products that had the Doom 3 logo emblazoned on them. Following that trend, Everglide has launched new Doom 3 versions of their Giganta and Attack models.

The Doom 3 Giganta is made of thick and hard plastic with beveled edges. It is black in color and looks quite indestructible. Measuring 290 x 220 x 6.5, it is not the largest pad we’ve seen, but definitely one of the thickest. Due to its unusual shape, the pad's usable surface is actually smaller than it seems. The only difference between this and the ordinary Giganta pad is that, besides huge Doom 3 logo, the number of pad feet is for some unknown reason reduced from 5 to 3, which slightly hinders the pad's stability.
The pad's surface, despite being quite rough, is extremely fast and scratchproof. Our attempts to leave a mark on the surface or to scratch the Doom 3 logo with our fingernails failed, which tells a lot about the pad's quality. We can honestly say that this is one of, if not the fastest surfaces we've seen. In everyday work, the mouse glided perfectly if somewhat faster than it should, while in-game it took quite some time to get used to the fast surface. In gaming sessions keeping our aim under control was a bit hard, and we tested different mouse settings to find the perfect combination. No mouse skipping or hang-ups were detected but its extreme speed will not suit everyone. The durability of Giganta's plastic makes this pad perfect for carrying to LAN games without the risk of being damaged. Although not quite as good as the original Giganta, the stability of the pad is good.

There was an ergonomic issue that we came across during the testing. Because of its thickness and unusual shape, extended use of this pad may lead to hand and wrist fatigue. If you choose to lay your wrist on the table and your hand on the pad, the beveled edge will get in your way. On the other hand if you choose to lay both your hand and wrist on the pad you might find that usable mousing surface is a lot smaller. For those using large mice (Intelli Explorer, MX510, MX518, MX1000, etc..) and those with large hands, this pad will be uncomfortable for extended use. Had this pad been of normal thickness (a few mm at most), these kinds of problems would have been avoided. The best example would be the Allsop AccuTrack pad - while slightly smaller then Giganta, it is still a better choice thanks to its thickness of only 3mm.
Conclusion: Tough, fast and furious. Durable black plastic, combined with an ultra-fast surface that has the Doom 3 logo on it, could be an excellent choice for any Doom 3 fan. If you can live with its somewhat bad ergonomics and you can muster the strength to keep its extreme speed under control, this would be a good choice.
