Surface: Safety glass
Corepad is the name of one of the latest players on the mouse pad market. From their testing labs in Netherlands after years of development in research for the ultimate gaming surface, one that will deliver both the precision and durability needed by pro-gamers, comes Corepad Magna, an impressive piece of craftsmanship and an effort to bring gaming surfaces to a whole new level.

In an attractive and heavy (!) package similar to that of Ricochet, comes the Corepad Magna together with a rubber base, Corepad skatez and instruction manual that explains the process of applying the skatez to your mouse feet. The back of the box illustrates pretty much everything you need to know about the pad and is almost identical to the instruction manual. The thing that draws attention is that the Corepad offers a 3 years of warranty for the pad. Note that the warranty covers only the replacement of a defective pad. Damage caused by incorrect use (read: dropping) will not be covered.

Made of hardened safety glass with beveled edges, measuring 315 x 255 x 5, the Corepad Magna looks impressive. As the manufacturer states, safety glass is ten times stronger than normal glass and if the Corepad is broken it will fracture into hundreds of small non-sharp pieces. Bear in mind that it is still glass and take sensible precautions in order not to damage it.
To avoid the scratching you get with glass surfaces, and to eliminate unpleasant noises that come from mouse movement over the glassy surface, Corepad has branded a fine dot pattern of gray color into the glass. Not only does it provide a fancy look but it is also extremely hardwearing, offering great precision and suiting both ball and optical mice. Plus it is very easy to clean, which is necessary from time to time if you want to get the most out of this pad. The rubber base is of the same size as the pad, black in color and provides excellent stability to the Corepad. You have to be careful when you move the pad, because the rubber might bend and distort due to the pad's weight. The Corepad skatez that come with the pad are extremely smooth and will provide even better glide over the surface of the Corepad. They are strongly recommended for optimal performance. Corepad Magna ships in two different colors, blue and red. Only the colour of the Corepad logo and corners change; the branded pattern remains the same.

During the test, our impressions grew from average to superb. At first, having a piece of glass under your hand is an awkard experience if you are not used to it. Its icy touch and the occasional scratching noise that the mouse produced were somewhat discomforting. But after a few days of extensive use, we became quite used to it. The unequaled precision that the pad offers along with its comfortable and sleek surface exceeded our every expectation. Gaming sessions were enjoyable and aiming has never been easier. The word 'fast' got a whole new meaning after we applied the skatez to our Logitech pet. The incredibly fast and easy movements that you can achieve with the Corepad are simply unbelievable. It will not suit everyone's taste. We believe that only hard-core gamers will benefit from this pad's full potential. We're not saying that you can’t use it in everyday tasks, just it would be a shame not to take it to a LAN party from time to time.
Cleaning is necessary in order to have top performance with this pad. Like all glass surfaces it acts like a dust magnet plus, it will leave visible fingerprints every time you touch it. Luckily cleaning is quite easy. On the other hand this pad benefits from the durability of safety glass and it is impossible to bend or distort.
Conclusion: A unique piece of glass that takes some time to get used to it. After you have discovered the hidden treasures that Corepad offers your understanding of gaming surfaces would never be the same. A fancy style combined with sleek design and excellent performance that will find a place in the heart of every hard-core gamer.
