Stermy is a player who came to Quake 4 a little late, at least from a tournament perspective. In fact, he didn’t attend a single tournament until some 9 months after Quake 4 was released, but that doesn’t mean the Italian was sitting idle collecting his reputedly substantial FPO salary. Having one of the greatest gamers of all time as your practice partner certainly helps, and the several boot camps he has had with both Fatal1ty and Fox over the course of the months leading up to Lanwar for WSVG Kentucky, should not be underestimated.
He swept everyone aside at that event and did so with 55%+ Lightning Gun stats in a lot of games. Impressive for sure, but surprising? Not really considering his considerable improvement throughout the CPL World Tour in 2005. It certainly wasn’t a surprise to his many fans and supporters either. Total Quake 4 domination was predicted and when he then reached his second tournament final in a row at Intel Summer, it seemed to be confirmed. Toxic would stand in his way however and deny him the chance to take his second win.
He still hasn’t faced Cooller either and that match should of come at Quakecon, but somehow the Italian didn’t have the form to meet the Russian before he was knocked out by 2GD in the upper bracket and then by Cypher in the lower bracket. Not bad players of course, but players he should, on previous form, have beaten and advanced. His ultimate finishing place of 9th=12th was very disappointing for him, but despite that, he will be hard to beat in any tournament he plays in. Perhaps he needed to lose, after two big tournament finishes, just so that he is hungry again the next time an opportunity presents itself to play and beat Cooller or Toxic.
His current ranking does not take into account his lack of tournaments and based on his two big results, you would have to say that he is not far away from the top 2 and is only really challenged for 3rd by Ztrider right now. Having said that, he is well aware of the young guns after losing out to Cypher at Quakecon. He is still very young though and is part of the ever changing world of esport duelling and should be around for a long time to come.
WCG needs to have this man attending, but only you can help that cause.
