The two sides of Jay are starting to show through. On one side we have the fun loving, cheeky chappy Englishman with a keen eye for practical jokes and outrageous pranks, but on the other side, a deeply motivated and committed professional player who is hungry to win a major tournament. He has also shown a ruthless streak in winning every UK lan tournament he has entered, often demoralising his fellow countrymen in the process.

Jay is indisputably the top UK Quake 4 player of the moment and keeps proving it time after time. The others, notably Garpy, aren’t that far away, but Jay continues to have a vice like grip on UK tournaments and until the other Brits get it into their head that he is beatable, it won’t be changing any time soon.

Jay’s main challenge then is to conquer the big international tournaments and whilst he hasn’t really come close to winning one of them yet, he does appear to be getting closer. His top 8 finish at CPL Winter was judged to be a little surprising, especially if we consider that he was known mainly for stealing a certain American player’s lucky tiger before Quake 4 and not a lot else.

Tournament wins in the UK have included, i27 Creative Cup, ESWC UK, Kode5 UK and ESRi in January, so he knows how to win. His international tournament results didn’t really get any better than top 8, but his 6th place at Quakecon is a small improvement and it could even have been 5th had he not forfeited the win to his fellow fnatic player Cypher (though, they split the cash).

His defeat of Stermy at Quakecon should help him to understand that he can beat the top guys and he is now firmly established as a top 10 player in the world, but knows in his head that he has to go a little further to break the top 5. He really is not far away though and if he can get over his recent RSI, gaming’s very own original prankster might just have the last laugh.

Based on his form and his consistency over the year, he should just get into the top 8 to attend WCG, but only you can decide his fate on this one.
