The second day of the QuakeCon 2012 is starting Friday 3rd around 11:00 CDT with the CTF Open tournament.

For more informations, check the ESR QuakeCon 2012 Coverage post. Results and VODs links (no spoilers) will be added as soon as known. You can also check the tournament website.

Day 2 schedule

Update: Check out the CTF brackets and Fixtures. Today should have a stream totally dedicated to the CTF tournament. Two live streams are now available, one for games and one for event panels, see our right sitebar.

They did stream that (the demos, actually) at about 7AM GMT. DaHanG played very well, rapha was not in his best day. Still, the games were very exciting and nice to watch.

when you get to a certain age (+20), going out on fridays feels quite juvenile, as if there is peer pressure to get drunk and party on fridays...I don't get it what peoples fascination is with it, but i think it has to do with not wanting to stand out from the norm, mediocrity and banality is the goal.

At any rate..best evenings in my life were never on fridays :)

Very true

Hey could even say friday's produce the worst sort of days cause that's when all the drama filled/binge drinking youngling/diehards are out. When your young go do that, it probably gives you a healthy perspective on things. But for most logical people that sort of thing gets boring quickly :)

Although I hope the whole attitude towards yay its friday, "TGIF" sort of thing stays the same. I don't like people working on the weekends or at nights :)

yup, thats what happened, we saw 3 group matches then we got to see John Carmack for like 4 hours while the playoffs were being played.

They did stream demos after that though, but pretty tough to avoid spoilers til' then.

We've spent all night ninjaing hardware and rewiring our entire setup to manage two streams. We're running a tournament stream that will be running during the first two panels. With any luck, this means uninterrupted CTF coverage all day.

On your position a samurai would have committed suicide 8 years ago, or quit in politics.

To the very least apologize for the major inconveniences on day1, provide a compensation and make 100% sure there won't be more problems at least this year (like Carmack blocking the screen).

Here's a short list of all your mistakes as an employee, in only the very first day of the event and none of them happened in all other LANs around the world:
- 3 games streamed in 8 hours.
- Not allowing pre-registered people in BYOC.
- 3 hour delayed keynote following a 3:30 speech on the only stream because you decided there should be just one, causing missing 90% of the duel tournament.
- Horrendous stream quality and 15fps (unwatchable) when you promised 60.
- No vods (unless they are holding them on purpose since that's automatically done by owned when set properly).
- No info on demos and cfgs.
- Choosing own3d instead of twitch in first place.
- Not advertising the stream with matches you made for day2, which is the reason why it has only 300 viewers. Also it is as unwatchable as yesterday.

Other users can list what happened in other years, in which you probably were also involved. All were as bad as this one and not a single issue happened because of volunteers.

all that plus day0, for example announcing the tournaments less than 3 weeks before quakecon (reason why cypher is the sole euro player [rest on vacation]), confirmed players and groups exactly 2:30 hours before stream started, laughable ctf prizes, etc.

Compare it with dreamhack and I simply can't understand how this guy manages to keep his job. I know mistakes happen and all that, but this is what the 8th year in a row employees completely ruin the event by their own? Probably id software's management just doesn't care about quakecon.

VOD's are very tricky because our upload speed is dedicated for the live stream... essentially uploading a single match would take 10+ hours in its current state. We're working on a potential solution, but we haven't made any promises due to the limited nature of our resources. This is a priority for us, though.

No disrespect to zoot but how the fuck did he become a caster? He's got the worst voice for commentating I've ever heard. Needs to lift and project it like Jehar, his diction would be clearer and might sound less dull and monotone too. And didn't his mum teach him that saying 'what?' is rude.

I don't mind zoot's voice but I cringe every time he utters his "a ha ha ha". It's like a half assed laugh which he uses as a full stop or a coma.

On the other hand disrepute's voice is blissful.

i remember own3dtv back on my amd 4400+ dual core, i couldnt go over 480p and even then it raped my ol rig. granted that was a while ago but still it aint the most lightweight :>

I noticed this too. I can normally watch 720p streams on my netbook with a geforce 6200m. On own3d i can maybe watch 480p overclocked from 1.6ghz to 2ghz but its rough.

Final nail in the coffin this event for me.

Never been much of a quake player but been an avid watcher and follower of the tourneys and players for many many years.

Zotac finished and Quakecon still unable to provide logical schedules and streams. Tech failures should not occur with streaming at this stage of the game....

Attempted to tune in several times and had re-broadcasts.

The "schedule links" provide "who vs who" but with no times, no dates and no links.

Event has been an unwatchable mess. With other games flying ahead in user friendly broadcasting I hoped Quake........ bah can't even be bothered to finish my rant.

If you haven't got enough bandwidth to upload the demos then run down to the nearest internet cafe or something. Try and do something right!
