Dont think there is anything to misunderstand, anything that aids timing of items other than allowed methods (a coach in TDM or CTF or your HEAD) is a cheat imo.

Maybe you are a cheater sympathiser? Or maybe your just having a laff?

Do it in your head = not cheating
Use an electronic tool to help you - cheating.

The guy says it is only an aid, but lets be honest, unless you are stupid, you know it can be used as a cheat.

Next thing you know it will be voice activated and be able to bind it to a key. I know people back in quake 1 who had waves and pascal written timer programs (Stupid wankers) to time, all biound to keys. All cheats.

I for 1 am a pretty lame as timer unelss it was quad in Quake 1 CTF (bit of a whore in those days), but would never take the timer route. I had to fight until it spawned, whcih adds to the way the game should be played. (Fighting over items) Timing adds to the fun of the game, being late or early or on time, always adds to more twists in the game.

This tool used by Mother Therresa perhaps would be used as only an aid + not used to competition, but thats never going to happen.

There is no way to use this as a cheat...items spawn randomly and you have to calculate when they will respawn.

Training yourself to calculate item timings is not a cheat

Mate, its not what your thinking, this is just to TRAIN your item timing skills so that when you are playing your are more comfortable with calculating the times IN YOUR OWN HEAD. You don't actually use this while your in game. The program just generates random numbers like 02:26 for mega, which you would enter 03:01 and it would give you a correct score.

I didn't really want to get into how to cheat, or how to modifiy and make it a really easily used cheating tool!!! You'd be naive to think that that was the only way to cheat! But as said in mine and other reply's, voice activation and binding to keys, would (if this was a cheating tool) make it too easy to use.

inb4 another 500 ppl shouting cheats; it's just a trainer app like this or this.

it's much easier to cheat with this though :p of course you can cheat using a simple stopwatch, but as guard said, the possibility of voice control is ...interesting.

How can a simple stopwatch help you time without doing some modding or whatever to it?

1) You would need at least 1 per item you want to time.
2) You would need to press the watch's button
3) Everytime you want to look at your timings you need to remove your look from the monitor.
4) And everytime one of the watches is done timing an item, it has to reset at the right amount of seconds waiting to be started again with one press.

Seems like a hassle to me only weaking your game rather than improve it.

you serious? yea, i do know a voice controlled stopwatch would be much better... but that's pretty much what the post above was about.

3) ok, serious now: remember those egg clocks with the huge button on top? set the timer to 25/30/35secs (maybe less for obvious reasons), press once after an item pickup and get reminded by an alarm of the spawning item.
even better: get one of those that also changes led colors depending on time left = win.
4) egg clock again, after the alarm rings the clock is set back to zero. press button again to activate the timer, repeat.

that's just one button press needed to do the timing and it doesn't matter if you miss an item once, your timing won't get fucked up in the long run.

besides, 2 clocks = mh & ra, seems fine to me. of course this is kind of crude in comparison to what some people (used to) do, eg. .wav based timers bound to keys and similar stuff. ask the quake2 community if you want to know more :p

All I'm saying is that it isn't "easy", it's fucking trouble, and how would you calculate your routes if you don't know the exact time for the items to spawn but just are waiting for some kind of alarm?

no, i wouldn't say so.

a) like lots of other players i've been using a timer script in tdm for years and i don't find lifting up one hand to press a button during a game to be "fucking trouble".
b) i came across the egg clock idea because that was something "some" players used in the past, especially in games that do not have an ingame clock (or one that supresses the seconds, like cpm). if you don't believe me, even better :)

Of course it's not easier than regular timing if you are actually good at regular timing (rofl), since it require no physical effort and does not leave you with an vague and non-exact timing, but obviously the stopwatch idea is for the less fortunate i presume, so let’s just forget ppl who actually are able to time multiple items by themselves.

The reason why you egg-clock solution is shit is that you are left with close to no clue about when the items spawn and only get to know the second they spawn (or x seconds before if you set the egg to x second less than the actual timing), and while it is being inaccurate it even require you to remove your hand from the fucking keyboard (or mouse). How would you do that if you are in a fight right when some item is about to spawn (which you are quite often in duel)?

Half of the times an item spawn you won’t be able to start your freaking clock (unless you mod it somehow and bind it to some keyboard-key or use some kind of software doing the same by the press of a key), so it is indeed fucking useless and not really “easy to do”.


About CPM: you wouldn’t use a fucking egg-clock but a regular digital watch counting upwards and just do the timing like in vq3; by head.

this is getting a bit useless, i don't know what you are trying to achieve. i wanted to describe a method used to cheat in quake, one that people used in the past.

kinda, i was banned on esl for a season after using two fake players in a tdm match. i also used to toggle r_shownormals on ca pubs when that was possible, mainly to check out others but not entirely.

the latter was possible (most people knew back then) for a short time in the beginnings of q3, the other incident must have been around 2000-2001 (not sure exactly), but it's also widely known in the german tdm scene.

to be more precise, shownormals was possible before and for a short time after ra3 came out and it must've been before i got serious about tdm, because i remember playing mainly ca pubs on dm6. iirc ra3 was released in 2000.

the esl thing was after i started playing lots of tdm, but i was still with my first clan, so that was probably sometime later in 2000/early 2001. fun fact, not only did i get lots of attention for the tdm stunt in the scene, i got to know the people i later formed most teams with. some time later i even joined the clan we played that game against, was subject to much scrutiny from some :p

etc you say RA, program counts and then 3 seconds left, its warns you RA. Etc if you take mega, you say MEGA, before mega spwns, it's warns you. You could do for all weapons too.

There would be a significant delay if voice commands were used. It takes a couple secs for voice commands to register. Would be interesting to test

Some things to mention

Highscores work, but they will only appear upon restarting the app (bug)

You can change your settings in the start screen by hitting the android menu button and you can change how fast you have to answer

I will be adding something so you dont have to keep adding your nickname everytime you start a game

I put the app on the market with a few changes from the version that was uploaded here

*** if you did test the app out with the apk files you will get an error trying to install the version on the market. I made a change to the database and it will crash even after you uninstall the old version. To fix this problem connect your phone to your computer and delete the folder in the root of the phone called Quake Timer (in that folder should be the database file). After doing that you should be able to install the app correctly.
