Well, you say he's rationalizing, but he said he had an epiphany, and in a moment of emotional clarity fueled by nostalgia, he decided to throw a bone to this dying old QL dog he's so fond of. If you squint, you could call it either way, but in the end, it's bias for or against that paints that picture in your mind for you.

I think you can rationalize good decisions, if you didn't know the reason for them being good (or if your motivation came from a different source) at the moment you made them.

Also, just leave Oblivion be. You're better off playing some real rpg like NWN2 or DAO. Oblivion is a barren wasteland of repetition. You go to the same four dungeons though they might be in different places, you talk to the same four people even though they are named and dressed differently, and in the end, you find yourself realizing that all you've done for the past 2 days was stalk after NPCs in the Imperial City, killing them, taking their clothes and pretending you're them.

No amount of mods can fix that piece of shit. Believe me, i went down that road. The most gratifying thing about it was getting mildly aroused when moving dead naked women around. Some of those body mods were pretty sweet.

Good to know, I won't try going down that path again. I think I might try Fallout 3 with a bunch of mods though.

there's a huge ass guide on morrowind ones, cba to look but around 3 gigs of straight mods that make the game 9001x better than it originally was (and it was already fucking awesome). f3 just look for high rated ones, i wouldnt go all out on f3 mods, as they're a bit wonky sometimes

It's nearly been a year on subscription and i have yet to see a great update of the game, so i guess i won't renew my subscription, they win some and they lose some :p

well i mean, i paid in hopes of getting the updates the game needed, id software gladly takes the money, but hardly delivers. I already bought Quake 3 once so the fact you can play it for free is not really something that's new for me. :)

Generally you can't get much with 20 quid these days. The money per hour of enjoyment must be tiny. As cx points out you go to the cinema and pay roughly half the value of a subscription and get 1-3hours entertainment.

not to mention that you dont deeply enjoy the vast amount of modern movies in the first place

heard a rumor that ladders, irc embedded chat and a new anticheat are on the way, this rumor is reliable but since its syncerrors team u can bet this shit will take 5+ months to get here.

still wouldn't make anyone sensible who has already decided to cancel his sub actually renew : the probability of going back to square 1 with something broken and fixed 6 months later is too high.

For me the game has the very same flaws it had when pro and premium accounts were announced: few pro and premium players at my location so I can't use it in pub games, and not enough content.

even if it sounds weird, I'd pay up to $100 for a pro account that doesn't expire and that I could invite to my server as much people as I want, and hopefully that aren't in my friend list.

Also I hope there's a massive content update scheduled for quakecon, including at least one more mod, fix to pmove_airaccel command (think is the last thing needed to spawn custom cpm servers), the inclusion of spacedm6 and winters edge, and 3 more maps besides those.

to the people saying stuff like 'you will be disappointed..': you obviously haven't read his post thoroughly enough, because its obviously not about that.

i to will not cancel my subscription this year. my account has 11 days played. thats not that much. i pay 20€ or whatever per year. that's less then i spend when i'm one night out with friends. for whatever i get for that money, that i wouldn't get for free, well.. whatever... it's money well spent.

I agree, if I would play quake live on a regular basis, I would also pay for it (right now because of internet con. and notebook with unusable intel onbard gfx I don't play it) ... I just was in a cinema lately and the 3D film cost fucking 11 euros and also menus in mc donalds cost like 7 euros ... really 20 euro for Quake Live is like nothing if you play it ...
at least if you reside in the western world ...
