btw, its easier to just remember the 'general times' that the MH will spawn (0.40,1.15,1.50 etc), and then just remember the offset (i.e. if its picked up at 0.45 it'll be 5 seconds late the whole game) that way you can time it even if you don't see it being picked up :O

Oh and as every mathematician will tell you, head calculations don't have much to with real math, i.e. at our uni engineers are usually better at doing them than math students.

Perhaps I defined math too broadly, however, i just read this science magazine once that had these quick facts in a nutshell - according to them Einstein had once on the bus tried making head calculations of the coins he had and it took a long time so the driver went on to say "not so good at math, are we?"

.... but as it seems, that einstein being not so good at math seems to be just an urban legend, as i found studying the internet and the comments some posted - even though as you mentioned, head calculations and more advanced mathematics are two different subjects.

a friend of mine who's heavily focusing on theoretical/mathematical physics said that he once tried to solve Einstein's maths a-level tasks.. and there was no fucking way to do it, way too hard. rumour has it he invented his own way to prove the pythagoras theorem at the age of 11 (the original one was too tricky for people to understand in his opinion), and he himself said that he'd piss away endless amounts of time doing nothing but reinventing proofs for theorems for the noble task of thinking alone. read some equations from ART and you'll figure he understood maths quite well.

well I just happen to talk to building engineers from time to time (my older brother is even one) and my mate from uni returned from work experience at some car manufacturer, and we both agree that the understanding of engineers often varies from "not spot on" over "slightly wrong" to "blatantly obvious bullshit" :D

I knew a couple of them and physics is definately harder than engineering. A friend had trouble making his first year in physics and switched to engineering. He did quite well after that :)

It's very interesting to discuss the universe, e=mc2, quantum theory, string theory etc. but the problem is I know only a tiny fraction about it and usually forget half of what I read because it's so bloody difficult :o

I think of physic students as the typical stereotype strange science guys that are as weird as Einstein, engineers are more practical but definately not smarter :)

how "hard "studying something is very much depends on the tests you are given and of course your own specific skills.

e.g. Studying music may be easy for some people, but i would fail miserably.
A friend changed university but kept studying the same and suddenly was a lot better.

Also most people tend to do better in the second thing the study cause they know they fucked up the first time and try harder.


Personally I did think about studying physics but I just find too much theoretical physics boring, I want to implement stuff. And that is what my cousing thinks, too btw. He will continue anyway since he already finished 2.5 years and his grades are good ;)

Oh I just figured that could be simply proven with the e-function.

e^x + e^x = e^x²
2*e^x = 2*e^x

But I guess if you try to prove the first thing then using the e-function is two steps ahead.

that's why i used to do, and i'd keep a + or a minus in my head along with the number, the size of which indicated the extent to which i was off. now that might sound more complicated than just doing the numbers, but storing and computing information separately takes less effort (at least to me). like it's much easier to remember 587345 0275 if you remember the first six numbers by sound and the last four by vision, than if you try to remember all by either.
