I think it's best to keep them both separate, because id software will no doubt leave only the most basic of statistics for standard users, and the current QLranks team in my view has a higher getting-things-done rate than id software anyway.
id Software releases stuff and fixes at least some bugs (not always the most important ones, but still).
Meanwhile QLRanks team did what in the last 1,5 year? Oh yeah, a streaming platform just like QuakePhil's, but for QL. Because that's a QLRanks feature... not!
My pet peeve is of course the horribly broken team game algo (worse in CA with everyone on -2000 Elo, but still repulsive in TDM).
I have a long history of complaining about it, for example: explained problems here and even offered help here.
ok, in retrospect the latter half of my comment is bullshit, but you have to admit qlranks will be better off if id software dont get their hands on it.
Feel free to write a COM ranking library for ca/tdm. I'll implement it happily. Or, even better, write your own CA/TDM global ranking system. It should be trivial for you according to your posts/demands.
The streaming platform was non-trivial to create and required a number of innovations.
I currently study medicine so I'm working in a hospital 12 hours a day. In my spare time I'm working to pay my bills and fitting qlranks in the gaps in my time (few). Tonight I have to write a paper on haematology and a case study on cerebral palsy. There's a reason I haven't played quake regularly in 6+ months.
I do get why you're not touching it at all for months after releasing a half-baked (read: broken) functionality like that. I do get why you prefer to work on something new and exciting (QLRTV) instead of investing an evening to something you don't even use. It's all how I work too!
No, I'm not saying whole QLRanks is trivial to replicate or run for the public. I'm your big fan, really. But this single missing fix is easy and should be done long time ago. And even here, below, someone else is also offering help if you show source. This is different than making demands, too bad you can't see it.
Streaming platform had to be damn hard to implement and get running 24/7, mad props for that... but wasn't a development of the rating system (which QLRanks are, right?) That's all I'm saying. I am in awe of it, honest :)
- I'm praising QLRanks and the team in each post (including the one you reply to).
- But I've pin-pointed a problem (actually more than just that one) and explained technically what's happening.
- Then I've proposed technical solution multiple times in the past.
- Then I've offered my help (and not only me) if given access.
- After what, a year? I'm given an enraged reply to re-write everything from scratch or shut up.
Imagine SyncError replying in that splash bug thread "ok, write a full hit detection library if you want this fixed". Somehow I can't imagine that...
So what makes me an idiot again?
PS. Since all you play is duel (I'm your fan, missed you at DH!), you probably don't even know how bad the team games rating is and how silly is the cause of that.
your replys was to agressive. I know maybe you did nice replys 10 times before, but still, cmon... but everytime you reply, don't forget, they are working for YOU and they are working FOR FREE.
What information exactly is available on matches? How much data could be stored about each player? How heavy can the calculations be to rank a player after a match?
Dafaq!? Guy creates something that everybody wants, without getting paid or getting anything in return just to satisfy no life pricks like you and then you virgins dare to accuse him for not doing enough?!
Damn sometimes I can feel my brain decay, when I read shit like this..
if id would care and would have given it a good thought QL would have come with QL ranks already incorporated into quake from day 1.
not a terrible idea ofc, the platform quake live runs on, should require external stats, irc channels and pickups, but since id software dont care or are incompetent we have it.
so yeah doubt that we will see the two merge in anyway.
They always had their own skillrating system and showed no interest in making it public; why would they put efforts into connecting with an external system to do something they don't want to do and could do easier their own way if they wanted? So no; I don't think that will ever happen.
A Ladder system is one of the two things in my mind that id has no reasonable excuse for not creating. The other being the ability to host your own server. Excuses made for many requested features such as gtv, we can guess it's because they want more vieiwers on streams, and making ql online only is because they want people to go pro/prem. I may get a lot of flack for this but imo they are reasonable excuses. But ladders... i have yet to hear a reasonable excuse towards why they havn't developed a ladder system. I'm guessing it's because id has their heads too far up their asses and they don't want to create a ladder system unless it's top of the line bnet quality. Just remember 2 guys made a ladder system in their own free time.
EDIT: about hosting servers, the only excuse i could make for them is that maybe they don't want players joining other player's unstable servers and complaining about the game but if the transition from q3 to ql taught us anything, it's that players hosting the servers are a lot more stable than"Quake Live Official Servers". And if they had a brain they could have made the ability to host your own server a "pro feature" giving players more incentive to buy pro. What a fucking joke. These hosted servers will have the map rotation system of free servers if you choose to make it non-prem. I mean for the countries without ql it doesn't take a smart business man to realise giving them a crappy unstable "hosted" servers is a lot better than no servers. /rant
