UKEGI Mission Statement:
"The UKEGI is a group of leading figures in the UK competitive gaming community that are working to establish electronic gaming as a recognised and accepted past time, hobby and career for today’s youth.
One of the routes being followed in pursuit of this is aiming to have gaming recognised as a sport in the UK. With many other countries in Europe working along the same lines and several countries around the World already giving this status to gaming it is only natural that we should do the same in the UK.
With gaming being utilised in a variety of areas including education and advanced simulation moving to have it accepted and recognised should be the next step and allow those people that make it their careers to do so without being discriminated against.
The UKEGI will be spearheading a campaign to collect and document evidence to support an application to the UK Sports Council and Department of Culture for gaming to become an accredited sporting activity. It will also be working with the media to raise the profile of gaming in all its forms whilst also looking to work with all other sectors of the games industry. We will also be looking to promote professional gaming as a potential career choice and lifestyle option for people of all ages that enjoy playing videogames.
