Today is the day! After a couple of months of hardcore development a new release is coming out. The objective of the release was to give the community what it was asking for and stabilize the platform as a first step to get out of beta. We think we achieved at least a first step towards this objective and are eagerly looking forward to your feedback.
FACEIT Monthly Ladders
After hearing your requests for additional features around pick up games (“Quick Matches”) we decided to introduce a monthly ladder. In order to rank in the ladder you need to play Pick up matches on FACEIT. Points will be given out after each match depending on your level, the level of your opponent and the outstanding bonus pool.
This feature will open on Thursday 14 March at 13:00 CDT. Initially ladder games will be limited to the time frame between 13:00 CDT and 19:00 CDT everyday. This timeframe will increase depending on the usage levels we’ll record and feedback from the community.
At the end of each month the top players of the ladder will win prizes and the ladder rankings will be reset to create a new challenge in the month to come.
Please note that as part of this change we had to drop the Series tournaments. All players that were currently in series tournaments will see their money credited to their accounts and won’t be able to access these tournaments anymore.

Upcoming Sunday the FACEIT Sunday Cup #21 will take place! The Russian gatekeeper evil is currently sitting at the top spot in the Winter Season rankings with 74 points, followed by dem0n, who has 40 points.
Last week evil again showed why he deserves that top spot, winning the cup as he beat FraZe with 3-1 in the grand final. The third/fourth spot went to Guard and twister.
Unfortunately enough we won't be able to stream this week's Sunday Cup, as we will be streaming the Mad Catz CS:GO Invitational. However, Xavier "Zoot" Dhorne will be bringing the action on his on Twitch channel.

FACEIT Quake Live Sunday Cup #20 is already around the corner. This will be the fourth cup of the Winter Season, where evil is currently the man to beat, sitting comfortably in the number one position.
Last two weeks were won by evil, beating Spart1e and dem0n respectively. This means he has easily taken the number one spot with 52 points, after also placing third in the first cup. Second place is now taken by dem0n, who finished first and third so far. The current third and fourth places go to matr0x and Fraze respectively.

FACEIT is happy to present another step forward in our endeavours in Quake Live. Today we have launched the FACEIT QL Seasons, starting with the Winter Season.
As you all know by now, every Sunday we host a Quake Live cup, open to 128 players. In order to keep things interesting and have a goal for players to fight for, we will be giving out points every Sunday Cup, which will all be counted together at the end of a Season.
The top eight players with the most points will be invited to a $500 Season Championship Finale to decide who is the best of the season. Each Season will run three months. The Winter season will be kicking off this Sunday, with the FACEIT QL Sunday Cup #17. The Winter Season Finale will take place on Sunday 7 April.
Winter Season: 27 January - 31 March (Finale: 7 April)
Spring Season: 14 April - 30 June
All settings for the FACEIT Quake Live Sunday Cup #17 will be the same as the previous cup. Be sure to sign-up for the tournament to reserve your spot. This week we will be hosting one cup per day, from Monday till Thursday. Each cup's check-in will open on 13:30 CDT, with the cup itself starting at 14:30 CDT.

This week we will make some changes to how we set up the FACEIT Quake Live Daily Cups. First of all, we are happy to say that we are going to continue with them!
The first change this week will be that the cups on Monday and Tuesday will have a 20$ prize, except for the Level 4 cup. They will remain free-to-play. On Wednesday and Thursday the same cups will run, but with a buy-in and higher prizes; Level 4 with $20 and the other levels will have a 40$ prize.
Both the Level 10 Cups on Tuesday and Thursday will be casted live on FACEIT TV by Daniel "ddk" Kapadia and Xavier "Zoot" Dhorne.
This structure is only for this week. In the future we will also look to integrate more gametypes, but more news on this later.

Another change we are going to make is the map pool we are currently using. We currently have a poll up on Facebook where you can choose which map you want to see removed from the current pool. We will then use it as guideline to create a new map pool for the coming weeks.

In two days the FACEIT: Legends Cup will be kicking off. We're glad to be releasing the format, schedule and maps for the tournament.
The cup will kick off with two groups of four players. The top two will progress to a single elimination playoff stage. All matches will be played in Best-of-3, except for the semi finals and grand final, which will be Best-of-5. We understand that a lot wanted a round-robin stage, so more matches could be played, but unfortunately due to time restraints this is not possible.
Maps for the tournament had already been announced live on stream. Be sure to tune in on time to FACEIT TV, which will start at 05:30 CDT with Daniel "ddk" Kapadia, Xavier "Zoot" Dhorne and Stuart "TosspoT" Saw on the microphone.
The groups will be drawn live on stream during the FACEIT QL North America Saturday Cup, which will start at 13:00 CDT. Be sure to tune into that to know the groups and enjoy some more Quake Live action!

Noctis started his pro gaming career with Quake III, when he managed to come fifth at the ESWC Masters Paris in 2008. That year was followed by more high ranked placings in tournaments such as DreamHack Winter and GameGune.
It was Quake Live when Noctis really started to make a name. He managed to win several online events, and registered himself as one of the best in TDM, grabbing high placings in events such as the ESL Major Series and QuakeCon. Even though he has no real major duel titles to his name, he has always been a top contender for every event he participated in.
The Austrian's biggest achievement was a third place at the ESL Intel Extreme Masters Global Challenge Dubai, and he also placed high in several DreamHack tournaments and ESL IEM Gamescom.
Sander Kaasjager is seen as one of the greatest Dutch players ever. Vo0 is the most explosive cpm players, got his shot at the big time when fnatic's CEO sold his car to send him to the USA to play Painkiller in the CPL. After this the boom of Painkiller followed, and Sander was at the right place, winning over $220,000 in 2005 alone. He was beaten in the Grand Final by Fatal1ty, but he still went into the books as the greatest Painkiller player ever.
When Painkiller got dropped for Quake IV, Vo0 made a short stint in the game but decided to drop very soon in the game's history.
He focused on his studies for some years, but made a successful comeback to gaming by representing Fnatic's World of Warcraft squad alongside 2GD and Ztrider.
Quake Live came out in 2008 and Vo0 was still playing, but not as active as during his Painkiller years. He still managed to get a seventh place at QuakeCon 2008 and a third and fourth place consequently at the Intel Extreme Masters American Championships.

Cooller, stermy, Jibo and tox will be joined by Alexey "Cypher" Yanushevsky and Maciej "Av3k" Krzykowski in the FACEIT: Legends Cup.

At the tender age of sixteen, Cypher made his first real breakthrough. The now 22 year old won the ESWC Belarus Qualifier, taking him to the ESWC Grand Finals in Paris to face the best in Quake IV. An impressive second place launched his career to become one of the most well known and best Quake players ever.
Quake IV brought him titles such as winning KODE5 Russia and ASUS Summer, as well as a second and third place at WSVG stops. With the return of Quake III, more success followed. Two ESWC victories and several ASUS tournaments were won by the young Belarussian.
Quake Live brought the greatest success for Cypher, winning tournaments such as several ASUS tournaments, the Intel Extreme Masters European Finals, QuakeCon and various DreamHacks. Now, after having represented the likes of Fnatic, Serious Gaming and Razer, Cypher plays for Millenium, both in Quake Live and ShootMania.
Av3k's career paralleled that of Cypher. Everything started with Quake IV at a very young age. He placed high in several tournaments like QuakeCon, Netgamez, WCG, ESWC and many more. He was widely considered to be one of the best players in Quake IV, alongside fellow FACEIT: Legends Cup invitee, tox.
Once Quake III came back, the Polish player's success stopped coming at such a high rate. However, several tournaments were still won, or he challenged for a top place. A DreamHack and GameGune win highlight his career, but also a third place at two ESWC events are part of his CV.
During his Quake Live career he won two major titles, DreamHack Summer 2010 and QuakeCon 2011 TDM with Salivating Monstahz. Most recently Av3k placed a shared third and fourth place at Adroits, as well as at DreamHack, after which he announced his retirement of Quake LAN tournaments. He is still part of Millenium's ShootMania team, together with Cypher and keep3r.

As you might all know, on 16th December FACEIT will be hosting the Legends Cup. Eight oldschool players will face off to determine who the ultimate legend is.
So far we have announced Anton "Cooller" Singov and Alessandro "stermy" Avallone as the first two invited players and that casting will be provided by Stuart "TosspoT" Saw, Daniel "ddk" Kapadia and Xavier "Zoot" Dhorne.
Today we are happy to bring you two more invited players, who we are very excited about.
Arguably the biggest and best Quake 4 player and one of the top TDM players, Johan "tox" Quick is our third invited player.
His career started in Quake 3, playing for the famous iCE cLIMBERS TDM team, with the likes of fox and gopher. Later he went to Fnatic, to represent them in Quake 3 TDM.
The high in his career was Quake 4, representing teams like FPO and SK Gaming in his hay days. He placed high in tournaments such as ESWC, CPL, WSVG and ESWC consistently. At the end of Quake 4, he managed to rack up almost 140,000$.
More recently his Quake career went on the back burner. He still played some TDM, most notably with colwn and managed to achieve a first place with his team at both DreamHack Winter and Summer in 2011, as well as a second place at QuakeCon 2011.
The Russian Chinese player, Jibo, also known as RazerJ over his career, is invite number four!
Jibos career took a launch with Quake 3, having a great year 2006 in the CPL, taking several top placings. He won the Nordic and SIngapore stop, and came second in the Finals in Dallas, only falling to czm.
2008 was another great Quake year for Jibo. With competition tightening, Jibo still managed to place fourth in two ESWC events that year. In 2010 he received a crown on his career, placing first in the Intel Extreme Masters Asian Championship. After this, things went a bit more silent and his Quake career practically ended.

He was incredibly successful in Quake III and Quake IV, but he also played his part in Quake Live. The Russian has represented teams such as mousesports and Moscow Five during his career.
It all started in 2002 at 15 years old, when the back then young Russian went to the World Cyber Games. This was the kick start for a great career, winning several major events, including ESWC, QLAN, CPL Winter 2005, WSVG Sweden, Extreme Masters European Championship, and DreamHack.
He was renowned for his sometimes controversial remarks, but also by his think-based style and great timing. Over his career he racked up around $150,000 in prizes.
The Italian Stallion, one of the most successful Professional Gamer in the last 10 years, has played 9 different games including Quake III Arena, PainKiller, FIFA, Quake IV and of course Quake Live. Over the course of his time, stermy has built his own name and became successful both as a gamer and businessman.
When he was 15 he attended the World Cyber Games in South Korea representing Italy in the Quake III tournament, being one of the youngest contestant at the time. Even though he didn’t have major success this tournament, it was followed up by some great performances, with top placements in the CPL PainKiller World Tour, WSVG in Quake IV, and captaining the CGS team San Francisco Optx to a second place in the World Finals, playing FIFA.
After a successful run in Quake Live, both in duel and team tournaments, the Italian now plays for the best ShootMania team in the world.

To celebrate Halloween FACEIT are opening up sign-ups for our Elo cups again, this time starting in the afternoon at 09:00 CDT. Check-ins open again at 08:00 CDT.
As on Tuesday, we will again host a cup for players up to Level 4, 6 and 8, named Noobie, Rookie and Veteran respectively. The prizes, rules and rankings will work the same as on Tuesday, but if you want to freshen up your mind, look below.

FACEIT have pushed out a major update today, which will allow us to do better Elo-based cups, and many more things have been fixed and added.
We have added a total of ten levels, which will allow us to also host cups for the lower-ranked players. Next to that we have added "Series" tournaments, team FACE N GOs, an automatic updater and many other things.
As mentioned above, the Elo system will allow us to do better cups for lower ranked players. And we're happy to say that the action will start tonight: one each for players up to Level 4, Level 6 and Level 8 (see your level in the release notes). Find out how to attend a cup below.

Elo-based Skill Level:
A skill level system from 1 to 10 for Quake Live players has been implemented. From now on your skill level on FACEIT is going to be based on this number. Your skill level is initially based on your QLranks Elo rank and will change as you play on FACEIT. Levels are calculated based on the following table:

- Level 3 Elo from 951 to 1100

Series Tournaments:
Series tournaments have been released. These tournaments allow players to join the tournament at different stages and win different prizes based on the number of matches won in a row. To play there is no need to be online at the same time as all other players. You can decide to play or cash out from certain stages at any time. No rush for the 3pm tournaments from now on, just play when you feel like it!
Automatic Updater:
From now on your Quake Live stats and the stats of your friends will be continuously updated on FACEIT even if you don't play for a while. This is yet another step forward towards updating you of all your friends' and favourite pros' gaming activities.
Team matches:
Some Clan Arena FACE'N'GOs are now available. you can join them with your team or be part of a random team. These will initially be available only for free matches. More will be added depending on demand for them.
Minor improvements:
- Sound when receiving chat messages has been implemented
A chat is now available in the tournament page for all users subscribed
- New layout of the tournaments page has been implemented
When a user does not show on the platform for a certain amount of time, it will now be marked as offline
- Search bar in friends tab has been implemented
- Team function has been improved with notifications for entering rooms
- Notifications when FACE'N'GO starts have been implemented
- Sorting of tables is now available in the dashboard
- Smooth animations and transitions have been integrated around the platform
- Avatar upload feature has been improved and now includes a size and crop feature
Bug fixing:

- Cash withdrawal button is now fixed for all users
- Tournament BO3 and BO5 is now showing the exact result of the match rather than just the result of the winning player
- Users with higher skill level don't have access to tournaments reserved for lower skill levels
- General bug fixing activity around team functions
- Proper labels for game modes (e.g. Duel, CA, CTF, etc.) have been implemented
- Timezone issues have been fixed. The timezone of all the platform activities and statistics will now be based on the same timezone as set on the computer you are connected with
- Stability and scalability have been improved significantly. The platform should now be stable at any amount of connections with significantly reduced downtime.
- A significant under the hood work on data storage has been made, which allows us to implement a gaming activity feed in the next release

As the Adroits LAN is set for this weekend, we will not be hosting our weekly FACEIT QL Sunday Cup. Therefore we have come up with some new cups for tonight, so you can still get your Quake fix.
This evening,Wednesday, at 13:00 CDT we will be hosting two cups, each allowing 64 players. It will be the first time where we will be using our Tier system. The Tier 4 Wednesday Night Cup will have 20$ and 10$ for the Tier 3 cup. Check-ins will open at 12:00 CDT.
Below you can find more details for the Wednesday Night Tier Cups. If you're not sure what Tier you are, simply go to both cup pages and you will see which one you are able to join.

The FACEIT Quake Live Sunday Cup #4 is kicking off on the 14th at 08:00 CDT, with check-ins opening at 07:00 CDT. Sign-ups have already opened.
Last week was won by baksteen in an epic final versus Cypher, with the Dutchman taking 100$ and Cypher taking 25$. This Sunday's cup will again host a maximum of 128 players, in the final cup before the Adroits LAN. Casting will again be provided by British duo Xavier "Zoot" Dhorne and Daniel "ddk" Kapadia.
The rules and map pool will also be unchanged from last time.
The second FACEIT Quake Live Sunday Cup on 30 September provided some great action with Xavier "Zoot" Dhorne and Pelle "fazz" Soderman on the microphone.
As every week, we will bring a highlight video of the FACEIT Sunday Cup, and this week, #2, featured the likes of baksteen, twister, k1llsen and guard, just to name a few. The video takes you through some of the casted matches of the day.

This Sunday's Cup will again be casted by Xavier "Zoot" Dhorne, who will be joined Daniel "ddk" Kapadia, who you might know from his Quake Duel Theory videos.
Next to that we have a small surprise for you, as the design team have worked very hard on a highlights video of the FACEIT Quake Live Sunday Cup #1. Be sure to check those out!
This (Friday) evening at 14:00 CDT FACEIT will run a test cup to make sure the recent changes we have made are implemented properly and won't cause any problems.
We would like to invite everyone to come and join us to play in the test cup. For the lucky winner, we will distribute $12 which you can use either on the platform, or simply transfer to your bank account.
The rules and such will be the same as last cup. There won't be any streams for the test cups, so to enjoy the entertainment you will have to join the cup. You can sign-up. Make sure you don't miss the check-in, which starts at 13:00 CDT.

After a very successful first FACEIT Quake Live Sunday Cup, we are ready to continue with our second one this Sunday. As in previous tournaments we will start at 08:00 CDT again, with the stream starting at around 08:30 CDT. 128 players will be allowed to enter the tournament. Check-ins open at 07:00 CDT.
Over the next few days more people will get access to the site again so they can also sign up for the tournament. We do want to remind you that the site is still in beta phase, so if you find any bugs, please use the drop down menu in the right top and click "Support".
Over the next three weeks we will have a new map pool, due to the upcoming Adroits Cup. As a lot of the pros will be practicing for this competition, we want to give them a good place to prepare, with the maps they will be using at the LAN tournament. The other rules will be the same as always.
Quake legend Pelle "fazz" Söderman will be casting alongside Xavier "Zoot" Dhorne live from our studio this week. We will be looking to bring you an even smoother and better show and build on from our experience in our first cup.

Sunday at 08:00 CDT is the first FACEIT Quake Live Sunday Cup , and we are really excited for it! Yesterday we held a cup with around 32 players, of which a lot were Quakers. We found some small bugs, but overall the platform ran as we hoped.
We are looking to launch the platform Saturday evening, so everyone who wants to attend can sign-up then. I'll update this post once the site is up!
What I can already tell you is the definitive map pool we will use for this Sunday Cup. Please note that we might change it for the upcoming editions.
Admittedly, the tournament started off a bit hectic, with the platform going down a few times and it not working accordingly in the first stages of the tournament. Having said that, let's get over to the actual games played.
Several top names such as strenx, pavel, guard, agent and twister signed up for the first FACEIT Sunday Cup. All came through the initial rounds unscathed, bar twister, who was unfortunately matched up against Reaper in the first round. A mistake from our side.
All the top players made in to the quarter finals without too much problems. Here the Best-of-3 matches were going to kick off. Strenx was to face off against crims, who was the surprise package of the tournament, while the other match ups were baksteen versus Guard, Pawelek versus pavel and agent versus Reaper.
As you would expect, strenx, guard and pavel all went through, but in arguably the closest quarter final, Reaper managed to beat agent to head into the semi finals. In the semi finals, the Ukrainian faced pavel, but he could not replicate his form, and lost with two to nill. Over on the other side, strenx, facing Guard, managed to win his match as well, making the grand final a fight between Russia's pavel and Zotac legend strenx.
The Frenchman started of well, winning Aerowalk with 20-13. However, on map two, pavel managed to draw things up with a 9-7 win on dm13. This led to a dip in concentration and the good ol' rage by strenx, as pavel racked up another win on Toxicity, taking the map with 9-7 again. The final map, ztn, which was pavel's choice, was again won by pavel, this time by the comfortable margin of 8-0.
This means pavel goes into the Quake history books as first ever FACEIT Sunday Cup winner, taking 100$ for his efforts. We at FACEIT thought this was a shining start, bar a few problems here and there, of which we have learned valuable lessons, of a bright future.

Aerowalk, Toxicity, Lost World and Furious Heights are definitely in the map pool, but you can decide if you would like to see an extra map added, making it a pool of five maps, or three extra maps, making it a pool of seven maps. Please note that this is only the map pool for the first Sunday Cup, and it may be changed for the following cups.

The Electronic Sports World Cup organizers have added ShootMania to its circuit, while Quake Live has been dropped.
As everyone knows, ShootMania has really picked up in France, with several tournaments already been organized. It appears now as if ESWC will also be adding ShootMania to their circuit.
ESWC is seen as France’s biggest esports tournament and has a long prestigious history, hosting events in titles such as Counter-Strike, WarCraft II and Quake since 2003. In recent years the event has been in a lot of turmoil, with prizes not being paid out and several companies taking over the brand. The most recent take-over was by Oxent, the company who already owned ESWC for several years, but had to file bankruptcy.
Oxent also hosted Cybsum not too long ago, which was the most successful ShootMania tournament to date. Apparently this has impressed the company so much that they have decided to add the game to its circuit. The qualifying stage starts in July and ends in October of this year, with the ESWC Grand Finals taking place during the Paris Games Week on 4 November.
Quake has been part of the ESWC circuit since its founding in 2003, going in and out on several occasions. But as it stands now, Quake is out again. However, more titles may be announced in the coming weeks, so hope is not lost yet.

A new tournament, ladders and leagues website has been opened under the name of ShootMania-Tournament.
With the opening of the website, the organizers have decided to push out a first cup with several prizes to win. The ShootMania-Tournament #1 will be played on 23 and 24 July and will be open to 64 teams. The gameype will be Elite 3v3 as always, and streaming will be done by nVc in English and Millenium TV with Surion in French.
There will be several prizes to play for, such as ShootMania pre-purchase keys, cash prizes and tickets to South LAN Event. The registrations will be open and you can register on #ShootMania.Cup on Quakenet. Further details can be found below.

What an event it was; Cybsum. The six best ShootMania teams showed some amazing class and skill in their matches.
After some small delays, the event went live with Trevor "qu1ksh0t" Henry, a known League of Legends caster, on the mic. The six teams were placed into two groups: The international one and the French one. The opener of the day was colwn, top favorite to win, versus Team-LDLC, an underdog.
This match proved to be little trouble for colwn, as they steamrolled their first three maps of the tournament and picked up frags in quick succession. Team-LDLC proved little opposition to the two Frenchmen and the Italian of colwn. After their successful start, the team continued to show their strength against adK as well, but even though the final score was 3:1, adK proved to be a strong team as every map ended in a close scoreline. The French group ended with colwn on top, adK second and Team-LDLC third.
Over in the international group, Millenium, also big favorite for a top placing, faced the somewhat unknown factor, the Americans of Mercenary Ops. They had shown strong form in the Twitch TV E3 tournament and didn't stop there. They gave Millenium a tough run for the win, but eventually came out short and lost 3:1. They also ended up losing to 3 Old Men with 3:0, but again all maps were very tight. The match for first place was then between 3 Old Men and Millenium. A first close map with a win for 3 Old Men was followed by two somewhat more comprehensive wins by 3 Old Men. Some might call it a surprise, but 3 Old Men ended on top of the International group after beating both Millenium and Mercenary Ops with 3:0.
Normally you would expect a playoff stage after the groups, but not at Cybsum. The third placed teams of the groups played each other to fight for the fifth and sixth place, the second place teams played for third and fourth and the winners of the groups played for the top position. This gave the following match ups:
Evening Match-ups Team LDLC vs. Mercenary Ops adK vs. Millenium colwn vs. 3 Old Men
The first match-up, for fifth and sixth place, was expected to be won by the Americans. But they started off on the wrong food, losing with 7:5, but they pulled it back straight after, winning two consecutive maps with 6:2 and 6:4. However, the French pulled a little surprise out of the bag and ended up bring home fifth place after winning two maps with 6:4.
Millenium, top dog for the win prior to the event, found themselves facing one of the underdogs, adK. The French side had proven they were up to scratch with the best at several occasions. At this event, but also at last weekend's SOPA Lan. Millenium took a quick start, grabbing two maps with 6:4 and 7:5. But a comeback looked to be on the cards as adK drew it up back to 2:2. A fifth map was to be played to determine the third place team. After an overtime, Millenium came out strongest taking the map with 7:5, bringing them the bronze.
In the grand final we saw six Quake legends. On colwn's side we saw Stermy, l1nkin and winz, facing 3 Old Men's fox, fazz and noctis. Colwn were favorites, for the simple reason that they had more experience in the game. This assumption proved to be right, as the final match of the tournament was the most one sided of all three evening matches. 6:4, 6:1 and 6:2 were the scores for colwn, who once again showed their sublime form and take their second LAN victory in two weeks time. 3 Old Men obviously did great, taking second place.

Adroits have hold a few online competitions for Quake Live already, but they are going full-out now with a LAN event in October.
The event is set to take place at the Wzzrd Game Cafe in Enschede, the Netherlands, where Adroits has previously already held Call of Duty 4 and Enemy Territory tournaments, and TosspoT's Crossfire Challenge series took place here as well.
It'll feature both a TDM and Duel competition and the exact dates are 19-21 October, 2012. This is all information there is for now, but more will follow.

After two days full with Shootmania action, the first open LAN tournament is over and we have a winner.
Saturday started with the 32 teams placed into four groups of eight teams. All favorites such as aL, colwn and Epsilon eSports ended at the top of their groups. Other teams such as ADK, Branque! and Art Gaming were looking strong as well. The top four of each group moved on to a second groupstage, which were four groups of four teams. You can find an overview of the first groupstage here.
In the second groupstage there were little surprises again. Epsilon eSports, ADK, colwn and aL all topped their group, followed by Branque!, punchLine, LDLC and Team-LDLC.com. These teams moved into a double elimination playoff stage.
In the second round of the playoffs the match everyone was waiting for took place. The Quake stars of colwn faced the Quake stars of aL. Stermy versus strenx. After three maps we had a winner. Colwn beat aL with 2:1, who were knocked down to the lower bracket. The Italian and his French comrades moved on to the upper bracket final. On the other side of the bracket Epsilon eSports had beaten ADK and Team-LDLC.com and were also in the upper bracket final. After three close games, colwn came out as strongest and moved to the grand final.
In the lower bracket final we could see ADK looking to prove a point. After beating Branque!, they were up against one of the top favorites, aL. They showed their intentions and strong form, beating aL with 2:1. In the lower bracket final they faced Epsilon eSports. Again three close maps, but ADK came out on top and continued their momentum and moved to the grand final versus colwn.
As colwn came from the grand final, it meant they started with one point ahead. The first map was Collided and the teams went head to head, but certainly colwn found grip over the match and won the map 6:3. The second map to be played was Archways. It started off close again, but as in the previous game colwn managed to sneak away the points and won it with 6:3 again, meaning they became the first SOPA Lan champions! A legendary Quake trio will be representing French organization Millenium. Kevin “Strenx” Baeza has been playing ShootMania for some time now and has been trying to push the game forward, to help it become one of the main titles in esports. He has now teamed up with two other legendary Quake names to create an all-star team.
The Frenchman will be joined by Alexey “Cypher” Yanushevsky and Maciej “Av3k” Krzykowski. The two Eastern European players represented Serious Gaming and gaming peripheral manufacturer Razer for some time in Quake Live, but will now represent Millenium in ShootMania.
They won’t be attending the SOPA Lan together yet, as Cypher and Av3k will both be at DreamHack Summer for the Quake Live competition. Strenx will be attending but with a mix-team, together with Saint-Cyprien and cr1pton. However, the team will be going to Cybsum, as they have been one of four teams to be invited so far.
To round it up, these are the three players who will represent Millenium in ShootMania:

The Cyberathlete Summit will featuring six of the best teams from around the globe. Four of those teams have been announced.
On 23 and 24 June Cybsum will take place in Paris, France and give away 8 100€ in prizes. A total of six teams will be invited to the tourney. Three international teams and three French teams. One will be decided this evening via the TwitchTV E3 Tournament, where YouTube Money will play Mercenary Ops in the grand final (coverage here).
Today, however, four teams have already been announced. Millenium already announced their new team featuring Strenx, Cypher and Av3k and they have of course been invited to attend. The other teams are 3 Old Men and colwn, featuring Quake legends and LDLC, with Counter-Strike players.

FnaticMSI has issued an update regarding the MSI BEAT IT Quake Live Grand Finals in Beijing, China.
From America we could see Shane "rapha" Hendrixson qualify and from Europe we saw Marcel "k1llsen" Paul taking gold. These two champions will be joined by two more players, one each from FnaticMSI And Evil Geniuses. These four players along with more champion gamers were originally supposed to go to Beijing, today we can confirm that the Quake Live championship won't happen in China, instead we will hold it in a few months, tentatively slated for DreamHack Winter in November.
This is a very unfortunate situation for us as being FnaticMSI we've always loved and supported the game through PLAY, our own CTF squad as well, clearly we have shown our solidarity for this amazing First Person Shooter, however this was situation was out of MSI's control as id Software were unavailable to help them set up a LAN tournament in China.
While we can confirm four slots for the Quake Live tournament we will be announcing the final event which we are hoping will have a bigger star studded lineup. There will be eight more slots open for players, but these will be invite only as of now. More details will be launched.
We'd also like to confirm that the prize money won't change and that along with MSI we're showing our full strength to this tournament. Just for a reminder, the total prize money will still be a massive $10,500 in cash prizes in addition to the winner getting himself a hard earned MSI GT660.

FnaticMSI PLAY in cooperations with MSI have announced a series of tournaments running over the summer period.
Tournaments in Call of Duty 4, Heroes of Newerth, Counter-Strike 1.6, and most importantly for you: Quake Live. A total prize purse of 65,000$ is set available, with players and teams in Quake Live and Counter-Strike 1.6 will have the chance to qualify for a LAN tournament, held in Beijing, China.
The exact prizes for the Quake Live tournament are yet to be announced, but the first qualifier will be at June 19th and will be streamed by Level Up TV.

You have spoken on the topic of ‘perfect practice’ many times in the past. What to you is ‘perfect practice’?
Perfect practice to me is, playing with a bunch of great guys who all have different skill sets. Making sure I learn how to play against an offensive, defensive, elusive, tactical and crazy player. So I get to see all faces of the opponent. This will train me how to beat every type of player imaginable. After getting all the killer training, I just really enjoy hanging with the guys. So definitely finding cool people to train with is a definite plus. I want to make my training as enjoyable as possible.

Seeing how you performed now, are there any specific areas in your game play that you will focus on improving in the future? l1nkje: Yeah of course. I said on fragster.de that I wanted to focus onto duelling in 2010, and that’s what I’ll do. Since I’m not a dueller, i kind of need to “restart” my game, so yeah, I’ll improve everything. I need a fresh start, a start over. Maybe I’ll have to talk with my mates and ask them what I do so wrong :)
Many people say that on any given day you could win a tournament, however at this event you were out in the group stage, what went wrong? Spart1e: Like I mentioned earlier. Lack of sleep/concentration and a(not just one) mistake of me. I guess that it was quite the same for me as av3k when he played calipt. I felt I was in such a good form, that I underestimated my opponents. From now on I am gonna play 100% in every game:P.

In my humble opinion, the aim > brain. If you have 40% brain and 60% aim, you can be the best. If you have 60% brain, 40% aim, it's more difficult because through your skill, you can lose because you lost important situations.

Last weekend, Sebastian "Spart1e" Siira and Pierre-Emeric "l1nkje" Portier attended the Area77 Quake III event at the rAge expo in South Africa to play matches and do promotional work for MSI. I'm so happy to join a structure like Fnatic, I hope that I will do a lot of people proud and some really good things in the coming months. At GamesCom in Cologne, Germany, Turtle Entertainment (mother company of ESL) have announced the eSports Award winners. Among these awards, we saw various Quake related nominees, such as Shane 'rapha' Hendrixson as Breakthrough of the Year and also Sebastian 'Spart1e' Siira and Magnus 'fox' Olsson as Northern European Players of the Year.
Unfortunately, none of these players managed to grab an actual award, but Quake Live, the game itself, did manage to grab one award: eSports Game of the Year! With this, Quake Live has beaten FIFA 2009, Street Fighter IV, Left 4 Dead and Dawn of War 2.

ESL has announced its fourth season of the Intel Extreme Masters. Counter-Strike and World of Warcraft will receive the main attention and will have 500.000$ spread over six events, spread over the year. The opening will be at GamesCom at August 19-23.
At the same event, Quake Live will have some sort of side event, called the QuakeLive Intel Extreme Masters Pro/Am Challenge. People from the crowd can participate this and the winner will take home 1.000$.
"I know the game, I value the game... we are working very hard to make the season happen with QuakeLive. The fact that I just want it in does not instantly get it in, but I am doing everything in my power to make sure it is."
Stermy has announced on his personal website that AMD will be sponsoring his trip to QuakeCon 2009.
Alessandro "Stermy" Avallone is seen as one of the biggest favourites for this years QuakeCon event in Dallas, USA. Avallone didn't have an organization to support his trip yet, but he did already announce his participation at QuakeCon.
AMD will support the Italian star player with their strongest PC and finance the whole trip.
Piece of Cake (poc) started the cup easy, as they got two def-wins as their opponents didn't show up. In the Quarter Finals, poc met deathreign and the BO3 system kicked in. Piece of Cake won quite easily: 10-1 on ca1 and 10-6 on dm6.
A harder matched followed in the Semi Finals. They were up against Fishtix who were on a good run. The first map, dm20, was won with a close score of 10-9. The second map, dm14, went to Fishtix with 10-7. The third map, dm6, was again a thriller and went to poc with 10-9 again.
In the Grand Final poc were up for possibly their hardest challenge, the French all star team, Weird Monkeys. The French side had been showing strong results all through the tournament with l1nkin leading his teammates to victory after victory. The most impressive match must have been against the mix line-up with Dutch stars such as Forever and tua, where they won 2-1.
But Weird Monkeys proved to be no challenge for Piece of Cake. 10-2 was the score on the first map, ca2. An easy victory was expected, but the second map was a lot closer, but poc again proved to be strong and took dm20 with 10-8.
First of all I’d like to say it was really fun to participate the fnatic.cup. All participators are very skilled and everyone had the same goal: to win this tournament! I’m very glad about that we has won this cup. In this respect I'd like to conclude, that many gamers all over the world should play quakelive, because it is a really greate game with big potential. I'm looking forward participating further cups in the time to come.

I'm very satisfied with this cup and hope there will be others. Most of our matches were really interesting even if the semifinal against bubbels was a bit too long. Of course we are disappointed about our loss in final. But at least we played the way we like it, very offensive in one zone with rockets and lightning guns.
We had a great time and thought it was a real success. We look forward in hosting more cups for this great community. Feel free to leave any feedback to the admins in #fnatic.play.
