Far as i know the bug where 125 makes you jump further in Q3 does not exist in QL anymore so you can even use 144fps if you want.
Thing is you can only get certain multiples of 125 or 250 so you wont get exactly 144 but I think you can have 150 or something.
Edit: So I just check my config. Com_maxfps 126 is what I use and it results in a framerate of 142fps which is pretty good for 144hz screen. Also it effects the tickrate/netcode where unless you use 250fps you do not get maximum tickratre if I remeber correctly but this does not seem much to effect your rego or anything.
You are right. Values of com_maxfps other than 125 or 250 result in potentially much lower cl_maxpackets than the 125 that is normally specified these days. The effect on you is minor, but I'm pretty sure it can make you animate less smoothly for other players. I remember testing in the old days, and you could see the difference when people changed their maxpackets value.
A solid frame rate of 125 or 250 will give you the 125 packets per second upload to the server.
Between 125 and 250, maxpackets will effectively be about half the frame rate.
If Meph1stoo in comment #9 is right, then 200FPS is probably the way to go; it gives you sounds and maxpackets of 100 while 250FPS drops sounds but gives you maxpackets of 125.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they are aware of it, but I guess they consider the odd missed footstep sound worth it for the improved fluidity and response time of 250 FPS.
>But why do every pro uses 250 fps then, if it fucks up with something as insanely crucial as foot fucking steps sounds?
Quake pros are some of the most technologically illitterate and challenged individuals you can find.
>You would guess someone like rapha is aware of this like this?
And Rapha is the king of the technologically clueless. Rapha doesn't care much about settings in general, he only fixes or changes stuff when some teammate or chat memeber tells him to do so.
Rapha lost a tournament because they changed the acceleration value and he didn't know or understand what was fucking up his aim.
Another illuminating anecdote: a month or so ago i was watching Cypher's stream. You know, the one time per month he actually feels like playing and streaming. He opened the settings page, after request, and he had the enemy outline option set to "target". It's the default, and in those years he never cared about what it did. Chat went crazy, and he finally switched to "all".
mhz is todo with CPU latency and cycles and update times which is a muliple of 2 + monitor (1ms) so you have the uneven refresh rates of 125/250, DPI means nothing
