On the official Counter-strike: Global Offensive blog, Valve has released an announcement. All Majors, as in tournaments, have had the prize pool of $250,000 which has never been exceeded by any tournament until now. Starting with the upcoming MLG Columbus 2016, which takes place March 29 through April 3, all future CS:GO majors will have a prize pool of $1 million!

Apparently the prize distribution will be as follows:

With this kind of financial support that Valve is putting into CS:GO, they hope to bring in even more players and viewers. According to Valve, CS:GO was the second-most watched game on Twitch in 2015, League of Legends being the first, of course.

On a side note, Valve has released another update for CS:GO fixing some current bugs. You can check the release notes.

I don't far from it, but it still takes dedication to get to the top ... aim, movement bla bla bla whatever.
One can always become more accurate, faster ... more efficient in RTS games.

MOBA you can pick up in a few days, learn the heroes in a few months and you are there, you've hit the sealing.

I remember the discussions when the prize pool sky rocketed to 11M for one of the international, valve had made approx 30M out of the compendium operation. They had put 1.6M up front, but got tons of cash in return.

No, that did what valve has been doing with CS, improving it's graphics, gameplay, features, social interaction, spectator experience and so on. Almost exactly the opposite of what ID has done with quake. That may not have got quake a huge player base, but it would surely be much bigger than nowadays...

CSGO is shit, full of cheaters. We played few times as a stack of SMFC-GE's and hardly winning on MG1-MGE ranks, lol. In every game there are cheaters now. Even full stacks of cheaters.
Fucking kids that running into walls but aiming better than tier 1 PRO's.
I have a 150GB of replays with cheaters now from NVIDIA ShadowPlay..

it was so much simpler in the early 90s/00s wasn't it, just a relative handful of gamers playing a handful of online games for a relative pittance of prize money. It was expensive and difficult to get online (relative to now) so those people who made it were us nerds who were the early adopters and all part of a small online community.

Now we are overrun by the masses with cheap internet and cheap computers & consoles who are born with the internet and we are seeing the results :)

In the meantime we have all become grumpy old men!

Well... at least arena shooter communities consists mostly of fair and good fellas.
CSGO community is pure cancer.

When you see someone running into a walls, screaming "I FOKED UR MOM" and at the same time has better aim and reflexes than PRO's...

BTW about "too much and (too) good players". By steam statistics ~86% of players have low-end PCs.
And I bet the same amount of users don't know what is decent mouse and how to set your PC/GAME to best competitive performance.

But omg.. so much momfoking pros....
