10/10, another FaceIt movie I'm going to go back to when I want to watch some Quake.

Really liked the music, as always in season highlighting Facey fragmovies.

This isn't a criticism, by the way, maybe something is up with my setup? Though, if I watch something like HuskyStarcraft on 720(highest this yt video will go), it isn't grainy.

maybe its Youtube. some people talking about youtube needs 24-48h to handle the 720 HD in the right way. after your upload you always get "fake-hd" in the beginning.

Think of youtube as "preview" version.

Always download movies that you really like and watch them in 60hz HD, not that youtube enconding shit.

Also, this is ESR; home of bad, delusional arguments. If assholes angered me, this would be one of the worst places to create an account. =)

That said, I'm not going to download 3/4 of a GB for a movie that I have not at least watched to see if it's worth it, content-wise, when I can first check out the content and other things on YT.

I know that downloading is preferable for video quality. While I may be a new user, I have come here for well over a decade for things from CS demos/movies(way back when it was xsreality) to all things Quake(even though I didn't play much Q3, it was still fun to watch the movies and read the posts! :D). Though, I have not quite yet gotten all of the ways to do different things when posting, I'm getting there.

Lastly, don't let hitsu get you down with his pseudo-hurtful words . He's just jealous.. or something like that. ^.^

edit: And just so I'm not a hypocritical bastard, I changed it to 9/10, as promised in a different reply, since I said that I agree with you about it not being a good basis for judgment as well as knowing that downloading is better. However, it's still grainy as hell on YT. I've uploaded 30+ min 1080p videos there before and they were fine to watch after 45 minutes. So, maybe YT is having yet another shitty day, because, it seems like their service has gone downhill quite a lot over the last 12 months or so, in many areas. That's not a movie-maker complaint. I'm just annoyed with YT, overall. How many times must I say that I don't want to use my real name on their god damned website?! =(

Sure I have. Well, I've seen it. As I said, I've been coming here for a long, long time. There's not much I have not seen said to ESR members from one member or another.

It's just not been directed at *me,* is all. It's okay, I have a rather thick skin and I love to joke around. Also, dry humor is my favorite humor. I imagine that, eventually, someone will take something I mean as jokes to be offensive(due to misreading. Which, in retrospect, will likely be my own fault because text does not convey tone very well unless you go out of your way to make it obvious that you're joking. But, that's half the fun to me: making humor that's so dry that it is difficult to tell :D).

+ love the fucking visuals in the beginning (they really improved very well)
+ config is pretty good
+ hud looks cool
+ love the "blood"-fx
+ no stupid pseudo-nu-metal
+ the third-person to first-person transitions

- the fx seem to have more gravity more timescale than the rest of the game. look at it!

I wish all new movies would only use the standard/default weapons models and effects. Don't much like addon texture packs, personally.

Especially that god damned plasma balls that trail for like 100 yards and do not dissipate much over time. Can not see the action with those damn plasma balls.

yeah it's cool in some movies. but since faceit is all about getting non-die-hard ql-players to play, we should stick to how the game actually looks, or can look if you make it right. i mean it looks pretty awesome as is, if you have a decent movieconfig and post-processing.

And since I know a lot of effort goes into these movies, some plusses that I'd like to mention:

- I really like that the cross-hair was left in the first-person views. Seems that many movies take it away for some reason. For me, keeping the cross-hair helps with my immersion. We have it when we play. We have it while watching online cups and lans. It should be in movies! In fact, I liked the one in the movie so much, I am going to try it out as it reminds me of the 'Large' cross-hair from CS 1.6(but with a dot in the middle).

- HUD: I'd be excited if this was the HUD that we had when watching others play after we die in CA, for example. We can customize our play time HUD, why can't we customize the Spec HUD?! =(

- I usually don't like 3rd person moments in frag movies. The 3rd-person moments in this one were tastefully done, for my opinion! Especially that long 'paused' moment on ztn at lower Yellow with 2 LGs and one player hanging in the air. That's a moment I dream to do myself, one day! Though, as a lowly 1450'ish CA player, the chances are few and far between and when they come along, I ruin them with my aiming.

Great movies, to me, inspire the will to improve at Quake. Half of my x/10 points I give to movies is based on if it makes me want to run and load up Quake. This movie did so it got an automatic 5/10. Add the movie-making and frag choices and I gave it 3 more for 8/10 total. -1 for graininess(which may not be his fault and I'll give back if YT fixes it) and -1 because I can't give a cheater 10/10 and still look at myself in the mirror.

having the crosshair is a big plus for me. I don't get why so many people dislike it. you actually get to see how they aim. I find it much more enjoyable to watch!

xhairs: not about aesthetics, but functionality! very useful in this movie since it translates the mouse-movement very precisely in the visuals

+ Good movie overall, with great frags, solid editing with lots of details and all.
+ Awesome hud.

- Originality. This is yet another quake movie that doesn't distinguish itself from the rest. Also the editing itself is stagnating, for example I cringed at the slow mo rocket and epic songs used at the exact moments as in most zeroql movies. In other words, what makes a frag, defrag or cpm movie be one of the truly greats is to be different for its time and game/place, not something just well executed practically following a script or a recipe.

So, 8. That is a great score in an area in which there are few recognized 10s, though I give tons of them, but personally I'll forget about the movie in the next 15 minutes and keep saying cpm movies are numero uno for the said reason. It simply wasn't entertaining enough compared with the greats (10) and with unpolished gems (9).

edit: or to be more specific, only a person without a soul can say the following is not on a whole different level than this faceit movie, especially knowing the contexts of both (nothing like it even to this day, against I've seen it 100 times already).

Some movies really do well with crosshairs. The music is a little boring and I think it's a shame because there was a lot of good content in this one. 9!

Next thing we need is a Road to Dreamhack movie that really sells the game! If nothing else we can always drool over it in our small community.

e: oh yeah, I didn't understand why we needed to _really_ see the grenade from Evil on Bloodrun, when the frag had nothing to do with said grenade. Weird thing to emphasize, but I guess you wanted to show the trail or something.

Finally, some fx! That said, the grenade trail was horrible...

But the movie in general was good. Plus :]

good stuff. besides the frags i liked the grenade effect, hud, the slomo scenes especially 3:30 with the rocket and 4:30 with LG, this zooming to the hud. zeroql movies influenced quake movies thats for sure.
