If you look at my QLive account I've played a lot more CTF matches than that but all on modified servers that werent included; except for those last 3 matches

look at my history. ive played lots of japanese castles, stronghold, whatever CTF maps were in the cycle. they werent included for months (the ones from 30 days ago are from a standard server)

i have no idea since thats where i spent most of my games, but when i went in irc & issued the update command i had like 3 matches played (from other servers; on bunny's i played like 40 games over a week at that point)

naturally my annoyance was that if she was a 10 in games i was a 9..compared to most others being 5-7. if it tracked all the maps for both of us where we played together id be top 20 too

to be honest ... i dont like the entire elo for pub ctf story anyway, people acting like complete muppets to some sort of system as if anyone really cares bout it. sure on the competitive side its nice to see full action, but really.. people lurking for easy wins, not willing to balance games or straight-out tards who think its more important to end up with some score no-one ever will care about isn't worth the unique gameplay of quake, ever.

that beeing said, the implementation of ctf elo shows the users true-colors in regards of stats, which is ridiculous. this very algorithm calculates unranked games as well, which displays a complete mess in the sum of all.

i dont think most quakers care about the ctf elo. the quake players have just always been twats in QL.
in some games on the bunny server I've changed teams like 3 times because of people quitting & nobody else willing to change. then you have quakers not wanting to shuffle because they won the last map 8-1...

this kind of shit never happened in UT for me. people would swap teams quickly after a drop (even though we had stats collected too) and in CA teams would even self-balance if one team was winning 5-0 (e.g. the 1st/2nd/3rd best player on the winning team would tell a noob on the losing team to swap with him)

ctf seems to have the worst of the worst. ctf elo should just be eliminated. just seems like qlranks is only keeping things the way they are to make the playerbase look larger than it really is since it counts all the aliases. that kind of enables the whole multiaccount issue in ql. it's strange that the developers would back this project with those concerns. would like to see them address that issue

That's ok imo. But he should add an opt-out function for the frontend. The only real argument (besides laziness and/or lack of time) I've seen was "it would break stats for others". And that's moot since he can calculate their elo perfectly fine without showing their real nicknames on the page.

I don't think so. On all the main maps the spawns/items are absolutely identical. With the exception of mega being swapped for quad on dm6, and a missing health bubble on dm13 IIRC.
Aside from that, if I'm correct, the spawn system and for the most part, items are exactly the same.

Maybe he is just testing something? I don't like when my elo drops too much (eg. when I'm playing drunk) because it's hard to get a decent opponent later.

Sometimes you just want to practice with a clanmate and you don't want to lose ELO, just to not be able to join some tournaments that have ELO level caps. Sometimes, you and your friend are both steady 2000 ELO players but during a bunch of duels one of us win all the duels by 2 or 3 frags, with the consequent ELO drop and you are not admited to some cups if your ELO is below a certain number. So resuming, it's stupid to not be able to turn this off during private practice matches where BOTH players are agreeing on not lossing/winning any ELO. This needs a solution if there isn't one yet.

Are there actually cups with lower elo limit? I don't think so, at least not in duel.

I understand. But on the other hand, well, you aren't that pro, so I guess trying to keep your constant elo is a must for you. As for pro's, I think they should have 2 elo's - one tournament only elo and the other is practice elo. I think this way people will see who is really dominating the cups atm and who practices better to get/keep their shape.

i think the problem with multiaccount usage needs looked into for once. It has never properly been addressed. qlranks forcing high elo players to make new accounts to avoid elo drop is hindering any progress towards halting people from making new accounts on an almost daily basis. i see far too many duel games with guys boasting they have 30 accounts. it sets a bad precedent and could be the reason why this game has a bad image.

That's not exactly true though. And here is why:
I play public ctf. Tracking of ctf elo has been introduced recently, and certain people who become obsessed by their 'score' have a tendency to stack the odds in their favor as much as they can. This creates less balanced teams, less enjoyable games. So, even though I personally ignore QLRanks, it affects my gaming experience in a negative way, indirectly.

Now, sure you could make the argument that these are the same people who obsess over QL stats anyway, and that may certainly be true to some extent, but do we really need to amplify the issue?
I also understand that the problem always lies with the individual not the 'tool' that they happen to misuse, but that's a whole different topic.

I just can't fathom what went through the head of whoever came up with this ctf elo idea, and that makes me question the intentions and integrity of this whole ranking thing.
Elo for 1v1, or fixed teams? Yea, sure whatever. Elo for random public team games? Why, just, why? From what I've been told, it also tracks unranked/modified servers, which just makes it even more useless.

ELO system works well in what it tries to do. Its a mathematical formula, that is really accurate in what it tries to accomplish.
No one is claiming that the higher ELO player should always be the better player in every situation, that stuff is all in your head. Try to appreciate the ELO for what it really is, maybe then you wont have such huge issues with it.

Well, id has an estimation of your skill. The difference with QLRanks is that they decided to only display indirect data (tiers and sv_skillrating). I'm confident the whine would have been the same, if not worse, if the individual skillratings of every player were available publicly like QLRanks'.
