The FACEIT Quake Live Sunday Cup #3 is kicking off at 13:00 UTC again, with check-ins opening at 12:00 UTC. You can sign-up for the cup here.

The rules and settings for the Sunday Cup will be the same as last cup. The winner will take $100, while the second placed player will get $25. This Sunday's Cup will again be casted by

Xavier "Zoot" Dhorne, who will be joined

Daniel "ddk" Kapadia, who you might know from his Quake Duel Theory videos.

didnt bother when i saw part 1 ALONE was 7 mins, after 2 cups, never gonna be more than like a couple mins worth of frags worth watching(unless i was playing ;))), rkn itd be better to more or less 'hide away' the good ones for like some special event like comp 10 or somehting, so u could have a good frag highlight vid, rather than like 10 ones that are very average! anyway asides that keep up the good work, watched this cup more than i ever watched zotac already haha

Thanks, we changed FPS and some other settings. If there is any lag it either comes from your own internet or own3D.

Anyone complaining about faceit needing to fix stream lag. Get real. It's own3ds fault.

Also, everything went smooth this time around. Zotac didnt feel close to as epic as this, and they had 150+ tournaments to get it right. Well done!

It doesn't work that way and today the streams were much more stable than the previous week. It's an improvement, I appreciate that, but they have to do something about it eventually.

It's a lot more constructive but still a far-fetched idea.

You don't really expect the 800 viewers (400 of them probably being Russian or ex-soviet) to write a cohesive email about their bad experience with the stream?

I see what your point is, some people are barking at the wrong tree.
In the end it's up to faceit to fix the stream, not the viewers.

I'll do my part and inquire about issues, let's see where this gets us.

i'm able to watch most own3dtv streams with no problems at all. i'm not knocking on faceit, im just saying this is a big problem. they could easily have gotten over 1k viewers, if the stream was ran smoother. I linked a couple of my sc2/LoL friends to the stream and the majority of them had problems watching it.

Roy, will faceit ever switch to twitch, ever? Because own3d lagged, lags and will be lagging as far as we can tell. They haven't improved their mediaplayer/network performance in a year or more, so what r u expecting from owned - they have no intention of getting better, u just take it or leave it. So y not leave it asap in the first place?

Me and lots of my friends quakers in Russia were definitely trying to watch own3d, 'cause Zoot and ddk r an amazing duo (just as z/nvc), but it was like 1-3 minutes of acceptable stream on owned and then it lags like shit and we're switching back to goodgame's stream (which was awesome thru all 3 faceits, by the way).

It's ok to keep to owned up to the end of the year, maybe, if u really got a contract THAT strict, but it will be for everyones good (and especially for every viewer's good) to make a new contract with twitch as soon as u can.

OR

Run your own streaming service:). Smooth and sexy. How 'bout it, huh?:)

First off, running an own streaming service is almost impossible to make the sort of ad revenue you can make of either own3D TV or Twitch TV. You can't sell interesting packages like they can to advertisers.

Then onto your initial point, we have signed a partnership with own3D TV and we respect our contracts and partners. It would be very rude for us to switch, and now with TosspoT with own3D we have a lot of faith they will be looking to improve. We have been talking with them a lot and they have been eager to improve. I personally feel they have improved a lot since last weekend's cup.

ddk seemed nice on stream. good voice. good looks. zoot/ddk should practice more casting together, and zoot should try to be a little less erratic (think before speaking kind of). but great show otherwise. funny how its going from being called a cast or a stream to a show because that's just how much face it and level'd up (no pun???) the production of just a simple weekly cup.

I wrote a small bookmarklet for own3d-VODs a while back, when I had a shitty computer with no Flash-compatability. The filenames for the VODs are in the source of the page and you just have to combine some strings to get the complete URL.

In Firefox you can select and copy text from JS-alert boxes. In Chrome hit Ctrl+C to copy all the content.
The script shows both the SD- and HD-VODs, if available.

Set up a new bookmark in your browser and paste the text from the second link.

So watched the vods, that aero o_0 really really good games. So sad in a way that baksteens time to shine is at what seems to be the dawn of ql. Would have loved to see a todays baksteen compete at all those lan tourneys against the very top players when they all were active and giving it their best. Yeah, but faceit has 'contracts', and they dont wanna disappoint owned no matter how acceptable for viewers their service is (which should be considered a primary objective, ain't it? pleasing viewers and not service providers?).

Faceit's hoping for 'improvements', just as any other company which have signed a contract with owned. Looking at owned thru all their uptime - they just don't care. They've invested into their own promotion big time, they get HUGE ad revs by now, but somehow they don't care about making their mediaplayer any better.

And its been like that since day one for owned.

And some people (including roy) r still hoping for good.

He just doesnt seem qualified to do this job. He can't give insights because of low skill, his by play comments aren't funny or hype and he has very little vocabular, he's basically using only few words. Also i find his voice annoying, looks like he has slight speech disfunction or is it accent thing?. All this was fine when he was jsut streaming some games on his own, but now, when they are aiming for professional way of things, zoot just can't do it on this level.
On other hand ddk really impressed me, he has good calm voice, his speech is absolutely clear without annoying british accent when they are eating half of words. He doesn't look like a nerd but his game knowledge is on top, he was concentrated during all games (unlike many other casters who tend to loose focus after few games), calculated possible options, and measured risks. I think i haven't heard anything stupid from him at all which is rare.

low skill? zoot? you probably have no clue but zoot's a pretty clever 1v1 player himself. I played him recently and he suprised me alot.

I personally think zoot is a very balanced commentator with exiting play-by-play commentary and the occasional tactical comments that really shows he knows what he's talking about. i think the quake community is very fortunate to have him as a solid commentator.

But Joe had a good voice (zoot has def. NOT!!!) and the typical motivating karma to get you out of your seat during the game. He is the perfect "companion" i mean in general and he was the perfect partner for 2gd. It is also about HOW you commentate play by play... . Bringing ddk = WIN! That man is so good he can even make Zoot work well as co-commentator.

First week (nvc + Zoot) was two play-by-play commentators, it was like watching Shootmania tournament - you know, with people getting overexcited from easiest shots and not telling anything about the game we don't see with our own eyes.

Second week (fazz + Zoot) was more about fazz not being able to pronounce "j" (rocket yumps etc.). He's an amazing player with huge Quake-brain, but his English turns viewers' focus away and he can't pass knowledge comfortably fast.

own3d's new cdn (fplive) is working nicely (I think the player falls back to it if the stream fails / you reload), but I can't hack it to play with MPlayer (no such problems with llwn). Too bad, because:

own3d's player = pile of crap. It's literally 5 fps when the bottom bar is shown. The bar hides and it's ok. You need to take care not to move mouse when the stream is playing, or it becomes unwatchable.

And on a bit older/slower computers, it's low fps all the time. Proper player has no problem decoding and displaying the stream, Own3d's player needs people to enable hardware accel and watching full screen and not moving mouse (so the bottom overlay is hidden) and even then doesn't work fast enough.

great show!

-excellent casting, ddk is a joy to listen to, very calm voice and great insights
-no lag for me
-sound ok
-fazz playing > fazz casting. Not that I think he's a bad caster tho, it's just too entertaining to see him play <3. pls start practising hard for Adroits!
-baksteen improving rapidly, even trapping cypher several times. I wonder if he can reach this level on lan. Can't wait to see him at Adroits!

cypher missed a ton of easy shots... he looked like he's not been playing much at all lately.

Oh, actually, he hasn't been playing much lately and it showed :)

His mind and tactics were pretty spot on, but timing and aim suffered in parts, which is pretty much a result of rust.

He's probably not played as much lately. :)

so the vods on youtube are still broken, fazz/cypher only shows the first 4 mins. haven't checked the rest but I would guess similar problems. so are the own3d vods. when I fast forward to a different time, it just restarts the whole vod but continues at the same time. any way to fix this soon? I'd like to watch last weeks cup before this weeks :P
