i actually haven't read any news, since i did not watch the TDM or Duel finals. So thank you for presenting all of this without spoilers. I missed the duel playoff games as well so looking forward to that to.

YT is being lame. Apparently it hates my splicing 2 flv's together and considers 1 the end of the video even if the FLV file itself is fine so...... I get to redo hours of video editing with YouTube's in-house editor now. FML.

Okay so here's how the YT video editor works... I've had to re-upload the clips, place them in order, then it sits there and reprocesses a whole new video based on what I tossed into the editor... so... fun times and lots of waiting. The finals are coming, just... much more slowly than I had hoped.

After many hours of uploading multiple clips, waiting for them all to process, I discovered that because some AC/DC music is played during the award ceremony, the Duel Finals would have been blocked in Germany by YouTube. (sigh)

Not acceptable, so... I've undone things and just tossed the clips into a playlist such that Germans should only miss out on Marty and Todd handing out checks and finishing out the QuakeCon Finals Party, roughly only 6 mins of content, and most importantly, everyone will get to see the amazing gameplay, which is all we'll care about anyway.

So, yes, finally, the Duel Finals are UP. EDIT: Buuut the audio is desync'd. Awesome. I really hate YouTube. Fortunately, the source file is perfectly fine so I'll re-up this footage once more b/c I swear to god I want the finals to be pristine.

Sadly, this VOD has been ready for over a day now but I've been trying to fix audio sync issues.

I finally found the moment where YT is failing. At 23:14 (Lost World 7:28 game clock), the video hiccups. This does happen during local video playback but YT, unlike a local player, doesn't recover. Unfortunately, it FUBARs the audio from then onward on YouTube.

Made a hopefully "good audio" version and am uploading it to YT. If this works, FRAPS saves the day again. Should hit in about an hour.

have to say this year coverage was top notch, everything in place, no screw-ups, quite an improvement over past few years

2009 - only audio stream with slasher / irc
2010 - spinning logo
2011 - all perfect

Perfect is when VODs are available immediately, not a few days after.

The coverage was hardly perfect, but keep in mind that there was a reason why VODs weren't uploaded instantly. You watched a stream with zero ads. Doing so costs bandwidth, and that bandwidth costs money. Having VODs available instantly and during the live stream would have eaten into the bandwidth cap.

The VODs are also being edited slightly into proper segments so you don't have to scrub through "stay tuned" screens, which you would have to do if we merely uploaded them as is.

Official QuakeCon 2011 VODs with commentary are appearing on the YouTube channel. YT went into maintenance mode last night during the Duel Finals upload so it's being re-uploaded now and should be available a few minutes after this post.

I'll continue editing and uploading previous rounds so you guys don't have to wait for the "stay tuned" portions. :)

You do realize the actual steam they used was also done in 30 or 25 fps so it won't make a difference in this case.
