i had problems getting my sound to work, but the driver situation is a bit messed up for the creative ards anyway so you might not have that problem. otherwise it was fine

it runs fine on ubuntu 10.10 x64 with prop. drivers by nvidia. i wasn't able to change the displayrefresh in games, desktop works fine - it's probably me being dumb :p

you may have to change the sound drivers from pulseaudio to alsa, though i do not have any sound problems with realtek onboard sound.

[edit] it's only been ~2 weeks but (network) latency and mouse drivers seem to be very good.

which netbook runs ql with 125fps?

well it sometimes gets 125, but i have it capped at 90, which it still drops below now and again. compaq/hp mini 311c

well with an ssd should that be good
im running ubuntu aswell. when it first came out it had some flaws like crashing when opening the menu ingame
but now tis great. shorter loading times than on win etc

always expect problems on linux with non standard software that is also demanding on hardware (video + sound)

well ubuntu 10.10 doesnt seem to want to install onto my netbook. its a compaq/hp mini 311c, ive downloaded 10.10 desktop 32bit and then created a boot disk thing on a usb drive, it loads fine to the first menu where you choose to install or run from usb. if i click install it just seems to load forever eventually bringing up a crash report (ill get the crash report info) and just sort of hanging with the mouse cursor showing the loading icon. if i run it from usb it boots to desktop, but my wifi doesnt work so i get it to install the driver which then eventually crashes and doesnt install.... hmm

no worries, 10.10 sucks. stick with 10.04

edit: and i'm not saying that because i dislike the interface or something - it's really really slow. somehow they messed up mutter configuration.. it works like shit with the less powerful gpus of netbooks

ill try 10.04 then, although im not sure if that completly supports my netbook? ill wire it to the router see if it can find drivers.

most of the netbooks on market now has the same hardware, that's why most of us are having problems with 10.10 :D

oh, I noticed too 10.10 is slower,
sometimes even in commandline there are delays when typing the characters, it hangs somehow, for no obvious reason ...
also the movieplayer hangs and messes up the sound of a video totally ... shouldn't have upgraded :-(, can I downgrade somehow?
But well tell me what you want, linux has still a long way to go until reaching the quality of windows 7 or OS X ... but currently I have to use linux ...

so i got Ubuntu 10.04 to work, all updated etc, and i think after a lot of messing about that i have got latest nvidia drivers install for the ION gpu.
qw works fine in gl mode so i think the drivers installed correctly. went to load ql, went to practice game clicked 'start' or whatever it is and firefox crashes every time =(

What about chrome then?

I have exactly the same issue with Firefox.

Also sounds sometimes just stops working and mouse clicks don't always register or are slow. They're probably fixes but I can't be arsed to waste my time. QL is a bit crappy imo.
