Hi, I do know this is going to sound weird, but I need some advice on psychedelic mushrooms. First of all, is it safe to take them, or are there long-term side effects? When I read wikipedia on psilocybin mushroms, it doesn't sound like it's a big deal. What beginner mushroom would you recommend? I'm just curious.

portabello is a safe place to start for a good mushroom experience. not too dry and not too moist. goes well in burgers and even stuffed with cheese and mustard. beware though, eating more than 3 can lead to bad gas and will make you unpopular in a social environment.

Thanks for the advice, but it's going to get super embarrassing if I pull a box of portabellos out at a private party. I wont even try to think of the amount you need to eat just to get a mild trip going ;) Although you shouldn't ignore the placebo effect. When we were in high school, my friend's little sister wanted to try weed but he wouldn't let her. So we took some ordinary tobacco and made a joint for her. Now she smoked cigarettes regularly so we figured she would find out. But nope..she started to feel dizzy and kept talking about how you reeeeally could feel the buzz and what a great experience it was :P

yes,..take as many as you want. :D but don't over do it for the first time ;) (also don't trip more then once every few months-some say you can loose touch of reality)

don't go in public/city ,..stay at home or better yet in nature-just be in a comfortable environment-

if the shrooms are extra psychedelic ,i advice that one of your friends only smokes weed(or whatever mild) and looks after yall

there are so many different shrooms - some make you laugh hysterically (i mean you can't stop,its like weed but better) and some are really hallucinogenic.-..i advice to take something in between (maybe less hallucinogenic,if your a first timer)

(mmm i had some fucking awesome times on shrooms man)

I see, but those people saying that they loose touch with reality, are they taking it every weekend in huge quantities? Because I don't plan on doing this a lot :) I would never take a drug with harsh side-effects or something that makes you addicted, so shrooms just seems like a nice way to go.

i hate to say this and i'm like the last person wanting to talk anyone out of doing whatever drug he/she wants to do but i know too many people who fucked themselves up for good with shrooms and lsd.

there are definitely "harsh side-effects" if you count the possibility of psychosis and what not. for someone your age you don't sound like a person who knows half as much as you should about what you're wanting to take.

Oh I'm definately a drug rookie. I've smoked weed in social occasions but that's it. If you were to find a common denominator for those bad experiences, are you sure it isn't caused by too much of the drug or mixing it with other stuff like alcohol. You know what chemists say, "There are no toxic chemicals, only toxic levels." Drinking too much coffee or water will kill you, even inhaling 100% oxygen will eventually. It's the same about alcohol or mushrooms in my head. Today there is a maximum limit on the legal amount of thujone in absinthe, in order to not harm people. So if you use your head and don't act macho when you drink/do drugs (like ripper ;), then you'll be fine. If you read wikipedia on cocaine, you'll see that the tripe people eating the leaves aren't addicted or have the side effects that you get when you take it pure. The leaves are 0,25% cocaine while street coke can be in the 50-90% range.

no, that's simply not true.

in my opinion the most common denominator for people with bad experiences on drugs are psychological problems, if you want to be that broad. that's something for you to decide, after all with 26 you should have a sense of what is going on in your head right now/ with your life in general.

it's been almost 10 years now but i still remember the three people i knew from school and did sports with who never recovered from their shrooms-filled amsterdam trip.

funny thing is, i even met one of them a few weeks back in a park and played some ball with him, he's ok-ish but i wouldn't wanna trade with him.
bottom line: one out of three finished school, none finished university, two out of three developed heavy speech problems and every single one had to get clinical treatment.

of course that is not the norm (and i know lots of other people who had a great time). they were together in a larger group and took the same as everyone else. today it's easy to say why those had such an experience (and should have never ever taken drugs) because their problems are visible to anyone who knows them just a bit.

oh, and the part about cocaine is pure idiocy*. please inform yourself :) erowid.org rulez.

* the leaves are addictive, it has nothing to do with the amount you take at one time. 50%-90% pure cocaine on the street is everyone's wildest dream, but so not true.

anyway, what put me off doing shrooms (mind you, me not you) was talking to those who enjoyed the experience.
more often than not i got told that while it was great fun it also was something they would never do again because the experience is far too "heavy".

20-30 for the first time, just to know how it feels (I had huge and GREAT euphoria + amazing visual effects). You have full control of yourself (you won't get the idea to jump off the window or run under a car) yet everything is quite different (in a positive way). However you don't feel time at all and during your trip you forget about all things going right now in your life. If you really wanna try them, take them with a friend, it's so much more interesting and fun. I don't recommend eating 60-70+ or more, because some people can't handle the feeling and they're being overwhelmed by it. But then again, one can eat 100 and have a blast time, though for some it's just too much to handle.

I've heard it's quite similar to LSD (never tried it).

Like with any drug you've never tried, start with a small amount and see how it affects you. Once you have a good idea, you can increase the amount (but not by too much at a time), until you find what's comfortable for you.

Video games are tons of fun on shrooms and lsd (or so i've heard).

Aside from that, what the other people said (other than the 'drugs are bad' person, who is clearly the victim of anti-drug dogma/propaganda).

Both in my case. It definitely rewires your brain chemistry in some manner, you never quite feel like the same person you were. But it is a hell of a good time if you do them correctly :)

edit: I've enjoyed them, but if I could go back in time and tell myself to never do them, or any hard drug for that matter, I most certainly would.

acid, ecstasy/molly, cocaine, DXM, DMT, salvia divinorium extract, various strong painkillers/narcotics and benzos

pretty much if I could choose weed would be the only drug I would have ever done. In terms of being a 'hard' drug, I'd say acid, e/molly, DXM, DMT, and salvia are all pretty strong mind altering substances. Typical narcotics or amphetamines like heroin, painkillers, cocaine, meth, and benzos such as xanax don't really seem to rewire your brain as the hallucinogens do.

Nice attempt , but it doesn't change the fact that if we both sent our CV out tomorrow to 10 different game devs I would get an interview for every one and you wouldn't get a single one because when they ask for your expereince or showreel, you could point them to second rate demos of you playing quake and talking shit on a forum. Key things:
-psilocybin
-mild dose
-calm environment
-friends you trust
-no strangers or hyperactive/neurotic people
-do it with somebody who's done it before, or at least a very calm and stable person you know well who can act as a 'rock'.

You're gonna be in a heavy fever-like daze, screwed up for probably 6-7 hours, which will feel like about a day at least, if not more, and you'll be unable to snap out of it or be normal during that time. It will be especially tough without a trip leader/shaman, so don't overdose that shit, be patient.

Calm and/or happy music if at all, stay off the Shpongle shit. Bring fruits, juice or other things with a strong flavour.

I don't think it's even possible to fall asleep during a mushroom trip, or any other hallucinogenic trip for that matter, as opposed to falling asleep moments after the intake. Seeing as you have a window of aprox 30-60 minutes before it kicks in (depending on if you had anything to eat beforehand)

if you haven't experienced any other drugs then maybe you should before taking magic mushrooms.
i mean it might be better to feel the effect of what a bit of cocaine or a ecstacy pill might do to you,just so you get the sensation of coming up/feeling high.
if you and your friends are curious about doing mushrooms you need to make sure you follow a few rules like others have said :

-be with people you trust,no ego maniac type people that just wanna fuck with your head.make sure everyone your with is cool and calm.

-magic mushrooms or any other mind altering drugs are better outside,out in the countryside in the evening away from any strangers.

-its always good to have someone with you that is not tripping,maybe someone that has tripped before.this person will be there in-case one of you do have a bad trip and he will have the experience to snap you out of it.

in the uk we get liberty caps growing from about now onwards http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psilocybe_semilanceata for a 1st time trip maybe make a brew of 30 mushrooms per person,this will give you really nice effects which would be controllable.
my only bad trip on anything has come from when i have done things like this inside!

I had this for about 4-5 months after, during the trip I could see people behind my eyelids. And then for a few months onwards, when I was going to sleep and I closed my eyes, I sometimes saw the same people, staring at me. Still happens once in a while, but not often, or strong. But it's pretty damn freaky.
