The Qualifying Day of the Silent Gamers Duel Cup #1 is now complete with the first round of matches decided.

2GD dropped by to guest host the stream with GreasedScotsman, and the day kicked off with easy wins across T7, and ZTN for boots over the funeral, before perhaps the day’s most anticipated game with the much talked about RubiksCube playing host to bolwind.

RubiksCube has been causing quite the stir since making it late into the qualifying bracket, with rumours of his identity, read more in his interview, and some noticeable performances inside a simply disturbing win/loss ratio.

We didn't get to see too much of the depth of Rubiks game today as he quite frankly eviscerated bolwind across the two maps, in what could only be described as a "bloody frenzy" once he got fired up.
What we did see was an exciting new/very old player, bringing some unorthodox rage to Quakelive, a pleasing antidote to the prevailing wind of predictable +back play, and here's hoping it holds up to closer examination next week.
Otherwise in a day of largely uncontested 2-0 matchups, id_, Everkill, davjs, and hardup left their opponents looking rather sheepish, leaving the competitive matchup of the day in the hands of StywoO and Pharrel.

Pharrel is new to Quakelive having only logged 38 minutes in the new Quake environment, coming from Q3 and is unknown on the Quakelive scene.
However it definitely appears he is going to be someone who has something to offer.

Map 1 saw him take an early lead on dm6 before Stywoo pulled away, albeit nervously to 6 - 2 before Pharrel staged a comeback to 6 - 4.
Then a great standoff at bridge in the 9th minute sees Pharrel taking Stywoo to 30 hp from RA with LG, before rocket jumping up to finish the job only to get tangled up with himself, and ended up getting pummelled in the face chasing down Stywoo to MH, it's good game and map 1 to Stywoo 7 - 4.

Map 2 Stywoo maintains momentum and pulls out the first lead to 3 - 0, Stywoos movement puts me on edge, I think if tweak from South Park played Quake, this is kind of how it would be.
He tweaks around with the +back key firmly down until half way through the 6th minute when Pharrel pulls it even with some nice rails, following up with some more nice +forward play to take it to a third game, despite a mini show of aggression from Stywoo late on, which quite frankly was too little, too late.

Map 3, Stywoo hits an outrageous rocket from mid to bridge flipping Pharrel mid hop to the lava god of dm13 to open the scoring 0 - -1, it's a sublime frag, Pharrel takes another hot bath before levelling things up.
Stywoo regains a small lead, then frustration following a couple of small errors seems to lead to Pharrel losing the capacity for rational thought, and he stamps on the rush pedal all the way down to 1 - 7, it's a shame as I think this map could of been much more closely contested as the last couple of minutes proved with Pharrel finally regaining control and pulling things back to 7 - 4 with apparent ease, at which point Stywoo was looking very edgy on the +back again.
Pharrel is definitely going to be someone we see more of, but it's up to him how much more, depending on how he harnesses that rage.
