never heard the hd280, but if fox, toxic, etc are using it, they must be ok. heard they have good isolation but lack bass.

beyer/technica are a little out of my price range, will read up on the sony MDR's and see what I find.

Just a question about the mic, have you used it in ventrilo/ts or the like with voice activation? This is probably the only reason why I'm skeptical, I'm afraid that I might end up with a mic that picks up way too much noise :|

it's awesome, I have it on a mic stand five feet away and it picks up every sound in the appartment.. not the least bit annoying for anyone listening.

thats actually something you should avoid... unless you're in a silent room ofcourse. Dont try it at LAN or next to a washing machine lol.

I once looked into these professional solutions, since its very hard to find a clip-on mic for 'mainstream/gaming purposes'. I even took the risc and tried a Sony clip-on cardiod (unidirectional pick-up pattern) mic for about 60 euros.... failed horribly. Didnt deliver the required sound and the cord got damaged =/. No doubt there must a good product somewhere, but who's going to test them? Not me.

My advice; give up and just use a good analog desktop microphone, like Labtec/Logitech delivers. That would already give less environmental noise than the zalman and will last longer because the cord doesnt go along with you/your headphone/chair.

Or, like I did, simply put a cheap plantronics headset around your neck. Not the most comfortable solution, but it works :D

I think at £5 I'll probably grab the Zalman mic and see what its like. If it turns out to be terrible then I'll just deal with my old headset hanging around my neck.

but it is actually what I use, and it works. but it's not ideal. I have a Shure 588SB which would be better , but then I'd have to have it much closer to my face, and that would be annoying :(

I used to have one of those clip on mics aswell, but I gave it away. the best gaming solution.

edit: hmm, I do see they come with their in-ear buds too now, for about 32 euros.... (24 euros without them, so you know what you're throwing away ;)

my headset broke and ill have pc350s by monday, too much of a bitch to not have a boom mic

on occasion i plan to use my phones outside my room, can't really do that with a headset :(
