man terrance (suffos guitarist) is so cool. when I roadied for misery index for a couple weeks, it was on tour with suffocation and behemoth. in montreal and quebec city, I swear terrance rolled at least 8 FAT joints straight, I've never been so high before. great guitar player

Metal is tounge and cheek for 90% of people who listen to it. Listening to riffs that are fast, melodic, and make you want to run through a wall rather than tap your foot is the main thing. The lyrics about slaying dragons or about brutal ways of killing people just make it more fun. Dragonforce for example, is a total 100% tounge and cheek band, anyone who takes the music seriously will have every D&D set. Not all bands have to be like Gwar for you to know they don't really thirst for souls.

Because if it's an age-thing, I suspect I must've either dodged it, or it's very very close. In the latter case, I'd rather borrow a gun and put some lead inside my head rather than live the rest of my life holding back on something.

Well of course many metal bands are very aware of theire image or verbal appeal. It's true that it's kind of cliche with metal band names, often you could guess it's a metal band from its name.

Opeth isn't brutal death metal, but you can check out a kinda brutal death metal band with the same vocalist from Opeth called Bloodbath I guess.

Try something along the lines of Nile - Back Seeds of Vengeance, Cryptopsy - Grave of your fathers.

I used to listen to a lot of this kind of stuff 3 years ago, especially when I got to know some tr00 underground metal fans and bands.. But then I changed school and got to know some 'normal' ppl and realized how silly this metal thing image is ;)

Nothing against metal itself. I even have some autographed cd from Vader ("Lithany" afair) somewhere and listen to some doom/goth/symph from time to time.

But when you look at death metal and then try to listen to like G'n'R or even Satriani then you will realize that it's completely diff level of art.

BTW, Satriani live in my city for free in the old market square on 1st July!!!!!! Too bad I'm gonna be in Paris for ESWC at that time :/
