Just be aware that the XP Home Edition for £66 is probably the OEM version, which means Microsoft will only allow you to use the licence (serial number) once. After that you may have problems activating it again, thus rendering you from assertaining updates. On a side note make sure its the Service Pack 2 edition.

the oem allows you to activate it 50 times. i found out the hard way. over 50formats in 2 years ;DD

I don't think you get it. The people who have this choice and truly understand it, largely do _not_ build their computers. The notion that some particular group is more knowledgeable of topical situation, solely because of their capability to 'build their computer' is asinine.
I think what you mean to say is something like this: 'Those who know how to put an operating system on their computer would never buy an operating system,' which makes a lot more sense, but is still in no way factual.

It would make more sense to put it that way. But as even less people are acctually are able to build their own computer (not build online and have them do it), i don't see how it could qualify as an asinine statment. :/

Because over the past ten years or so, it has been a fashionable 'trend' in the 'gaming industry,' something which happens to have become marketable, and thus common.
As you may or may not know, once something obtains such a mark, it is generally regressive quality-wise, in favor of easy to produce, cheap, mass marketable products for the 'good "consumer."'
Much in the same way that the quality of music, movie, and other entertainment media has decreased within the past decade, so has the quality of computer components. I realize that this is not a particularly good analogy, provided that one who understood things in the same way that I do, would probably opt to 'download' said items, and have no incentive to purchase them, for they are not worthy of that, but imagine a product that was deemed 'crippled, but capable enough for joe 'computer geek.'
Then imagine that the quality of the media could be incremental (it is, in electronics with many assembled parts), varying dependening upon one's ability to find proper materials (which is hard to do with the barrage of increasingly deprecated devices).
Now, what does one who has true knowledge wish to do?
