I have talked to the leader of the newly formed AMD Pink Squad, switch (know to me as Sabina ;). She is also a l33t network admin for Ne Games Italy and a Q3 plaTell me, what is the Pink Squad?
The Pink Squad is the Italian national female gamer team. We have selected the best girl gamers from the country for Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament.
(By the way, I saw the girls, they should rather be called Hot Chicks.)
What is the purpose of this project?
Our aim is to promote female gaming in Italy and abroad. We have noticed that more and more women play games and we want to support it. We want to give the Pink Squad everything they need to practice and improve their skill.
What kind of support exactly?
AMD will provide the girls with their motherboards, processors and other hardware and also pay for their travel to tournaments. We know that Korea and Argentina have similar teams, it will be interesting to see what level of play these girls represent compared to our ragazzas. The Pink Squad will also go to proffessional gaming events like those organised by the CPL.
Do you think that women can be just as good as men in E-Sports?
Yes! Playing games is not so much a physiccal task. It is just a question of talent and practice you put into it. I don't see why a girl who practices for 6 hours a day should be worse than a man doing the same thing.
That would be all from Sabina. I have to tell you that I have played valkyria in UT and I can safely say that she is the best female gamer I have ever encountered. She does not play like a newbie!
