In summary then, whilst this is undoubtedly a great pad, well made and looks really nice, it is actually too smooth for me. I have no skates on my mx 518, yet the mouse moves flawlessly across the pad and at some speed too and whilst some players will love this, I still prefer some resistance from my pad, hence why I had stuck with cloth pads in the past, despite testing all of the other surfaces. What this pad would do with mouse skates used I can only imagine (I did not wish to subject my mouse to further mouse skate abuse).

If however, you like coth pads but yearn for the slippery smooth surfaces other pads made from plastic or glass offer, this pad could well be for you. For those who game and design using their PC’s there is no doubt that the large pad offers a great compromise between huge space to move the mouse around and the odd game of quake with exceptional accuracy, particularly in windows.

I loved the way the mouse felt more responsive and more accurate in windows, but it made me feel uncomfortable whilst playing the games, even making my wrist ache during UT2004 as I attempted to find the right compromise between movement around the map and accuracy. Often tweaking and trying to find the optimum sensitivity also drove me mad, especially in UT2004, although it did seem to improve my accuracy in Quake 4 and I can hardly blame the pad for this.

This pad is aimed at gamers and id guess it will come down to taste and whilst the idea is sound, the new coating seems to have made this cloth pad react much more like those of different plastics and highly polished slippery surfaces and that makes it an odd choice for those looking for a little more resistance in their pad which they would expect from a cloth based pad.

Make no mistake, this is a truly well constructed pad, it’s just not for me.
