WCG Quake 4 Invite Preview (110 comments)

The World Cyber Game in Singapore last year was almost as good as it gets in terms of how video gaming should be presented, but there always felt like something missing, despite the fantastic time I had and the amazing spectacle that is the WCG Grand Finals.

That something was of course the lack of a death match game, specifically a 1v1 FPS game and when the announcements were made for this years games I have to confess to feeling a little upset at the lack of inclusion for a second year.

There are many things I admire about the WCG and the people behind it, one of which is their ability to listen and react to what the gamers really want. I should not therefore have been surprised when WCG contacted us at ESReality to help promote, choose and run the Quake 4 WCG invitational tournament.

Whilst it might not have made it to the qualifiers and that will certainly exclude some of the big names in Quake 4, we do have eight fantastic players, chosen by the community on ESReality.com who will do battle, not just for the cash, but for the ultimate in prestige. Every single player knows that to have “WCG Champion” attached to their CV is the greatest accolade in gaming and all of them will be going all out to make sure they end the tournament as champion.

Eight players, 1 championship, who has the brain, the aim and the conviction of their gameplay to be crowned World Cyber Games Champion 2006?

WCG Quake 4 Preview (158 comments)

The World Cyber Games welcomes Quake back into its arms this year, however it didn't have time to get the game into the qualifiers. The next best thing is a community led decision as to who goes to the Grand Finals in Monza, Italy in October.

That is where YOU come in.

To help you decide which of the eight players you think should attend, we have compiled a small dossier on each of the 20 players in the vote. Some you will no doubt heard about before, indeed you may even have decided before you read who you think should go, however we would urge you to read through, even if it is just to look through each players achievement, which are all listed since Quake 4 was released late last year.

There is one thing to bear in mind and I am sure you will spot it early, however with such limited time and a sizeable set of player's to review, the preview was written before the Kode 5 finals. The news report and finishing order of that event are also here on ESR.
