"Recently, Blizzard Entertainment implemented a Real ID feature for some of its current games and all of its future games. Today, Blizzard announced that it intends to require usage of the real names of posters for its StarCraft II forums before release, and for its World of Warcraft forums shortly before the release of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. From the announcement: 'The first and most significant change is that in the near future, anyone posting or replying to a post on official Blizzard forums will be doing so using their Real ID — that is, their real-life first and last name — with the option to also display the name of their primary in-game character alongside it. These changes will go into effect on all StarCraft II forums with the launch of the new community site prior to the July 27 release of the game, with the World of Warcraft site and forums following suit near the launch of Cataclysm. Certain classic forums, including the classic forums, will remain unchanged.'";sid=3000

I guess a fair amount of people already registered with fake names to but REALLY Blizzard? Really...?

Nadal vs Nishikori on center court atm, nice to see Nadal back at wimbledon.

There was an amazing game yesterday, Federer taken to 5 sets (and almost losing) to a rank 60 player.

Live: (Not sure if it the streams works outside of the UK though.)

Director: "Hey, we need a good facial expression for Locke to pull after he trolls Jack with that pseudo-religious bullshit about his father, any ideas?"
Staff Member: "How about the face that the writers pull while writing episodes?"
Director: "Perfect!"

Microphone Solutions / Headphones (14 comments)
Posted by im a tree @ 03:47 BST, 25 October 2008 - iMsg
Since my current headset seems to be slowly dieing, I'm looking to replace it.

One option is just to do what I've always done and get another headset, probably something along the lines of a Sennheiser PC161

However, another option which I think I would prefer is to buy some proper headphones along the lines of Sennheiser HD280's and solve the microphone problem another way

I've got absolutely no experience with mics outside of headsets, so if someone does a similar thing or can point me to a good model or brand I would appreciate it

I was thinking just something that would clip onto my shirt? I want to avoid those desktop mics if possible.

(Any suggestions for the actual headphones are welcome too, unfortunately I'll probably be using them outside of home so I can't really go open phones, which is why I was looking at the HD280's)

"Everyone [in the UK] who buys a mobile telephone will be forced to register their identity on a national database under government plans to extend massively the powers of state surveillance. Phone buyers would have to present a passport or other official form of identification at the point of purchase. Privacy campaigners fear it marks the latest government move to create a surveillance society. A compulsory national register for the owners of all 72m mobile phones in Britain would be part of a much bigger database to combat terrorism and crime. Whitehall officials have raised the idea of a register containing the names and addresses of everyone who buys a phone in recent talks with Vodafone and other telephone companies, insiders say."

fucking LOL'd

tl;dr - uk government rapes privacy rights once again under the guise of terrorism

Jesus fuck. I give up.

data recovery after unsecure format (3 comments)
Posted by im a tree @ 21:43 BST, 26 September 2008 - iMsg
so I did a quick repartition/format but didn't do it "securely", which means data should still be written on the drive and thus bits and pieces should be recoverable

just curious if anyone has had experience with this and knows what the best tool/method of doing so is

lost all my cpm demos, yeah, qq ;_;

nb: keeping old soundcard (soundblaster) and old gfx (7950 GT)

Aiming to push my Q6600 to 3.4Ghz, and still be capable for the 4780HD when I decide to upgrade. I did some calculations and, if I did it right I think 650W should be ok for the time being...

With my current GFX I got a value of ~450W, and with a 4780HD I got ~540W, and this is at PEAK load so it will usually be much less than that.

This is all theory though, something which completely ignores the degradation that happens as PSU's age... thats why in say 1-2 years time I'm not sure if my PSU would handle it all so well, and why I'm thinking of going 750W TX.

If I mucked anything else up or you have recommendations now would be the time to tell me.

Corsair 650W TX Series PSU - 120mm Fan, 80+% Efficiency, Single +12V Rail

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 Stepping (2.4GHz 1066MHz) Socket 775 L2 8MB Cache (2x4MB (4MB per core pair) Retail Boxed Processor

Scythe Mugen (Infinity) Socket 478, 754, 940, 775, 939 & AM2 CPU Cooler

Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL4(4-4-4-12) E.P.P. Technology Heat Spreader Lifetime Warranty

Asus P5Q PRO P45 Socket 775 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard

Coolermaster Elite 330 Black Mid Tower Case - No PSU

Akasa 12cm Silent Fan (18dB - 1400RPM)

ccl total: £376.86

1€ = £0.81591
£1 = 1.22551€

£376.86 = 461.84€
£376.86 GBP = $668.27

Rez (5 comments)

As we all know, Rez is awesome.

Now I'm looking for similar games which aren't overly taxing/complex, preferably have an awesome soundtrack, and are just amazingly fun to play.

Any suggestions?
